“The Audacity”: Passenger Sitting In Seat This Man Has Paid For Tries Suggesting He Sit Elsewhere, He Shuts Her Down

Woman Gets Shut Down After Suggesting This Man Should Sit Somewhere Else Even Though She Occupied His SeatWoman Sitting In Seat Man Has Paid For Tries Suggesting He Sit Elsewhere, He Shuts Her DownMan Doesn't Play Games And Confronts The Person Who Occupied The Train Seat He Paid For

It seems like people not wanting to sit in their seats on public transport and then fighting over it is something innate to us humans.

Likely, even in ancient Rome, people would argue about seating: “Ah, Scylla Scipio, but that is my seat on the chariot,” “Ah, alas, Marinus Asiagenus, I got here first,” and so on.

In today’s story, a TikToker by the name of mr_boris_becker just wanted the seat he paid for, while some lady tried to shoo him off, with other commuters even supporting her.

More info: TikTok

Taking the train can be tiring enough without other passengers bugging you

Boris’s train trip was rudely interrupted before even beginning, as another lady had occupied the seat he paid for

Another lady jumped in, attempting to defend the passenger, but Boris wasn’t having it: “Yeah, but you know, calm down,” and she finally vacated his seat

The lady seemed very passive-aggressive throughout, awkwardly laughing about the situation

Boris arrived to his seat, #103, but the lady already sitting there tried pointing out other available seats. He didn’t back down and got her out of his seat, with her smiling awkwardly and being slightly passive-aggressive.

Another woman jumped in to defend the passenger, saying “but you know, you are not alone,” as part of the defense, but we’re still unsure as to what that means exactly.

You’ve probably heard lots of stories about seat disputes, no matter the mode of transport – planes, trains, or automobiles – none are safe. On planes, people want the coveted window seat for the scenic views outside or the aisle seat for some more legroom.

Trains – people want to sit with their friends, even if they haven’t purchased a ticket together. Other times they just plop down wherever, without checking what their seat actually is. On buses, people are usually just fighting for a seat, any seat, doesn’t matter. A lot of the time, there are priority seats for disabled, elderly, pregnant persons and children. An interesting fact is that priority seats are also meant for Buddhist monks in Thailand. Also of note is that in Australia, if people put their feet on seats without a valid reason, they may be fined from $100 to $1100.

Despite all those guides out there, the best thing you can do is politely ask the person to move – if they don’t, be insistent, but never aggressive. If that doesn’t work, simply get an attendant, show your ticket to them and they’ll likely be happy to assist you.

You may get some evil glares or backtalk, but just put your earphones in and pay no heed to them – after all, you’re in the right.

Even though they may be right, people are still likely to be overly polite and not give up their seat. This is especially true of the British, who have a notorious reputation of being courteous of others.

In one case, in the British Problems community on Reddit, a person said “Someone is sitting in my reserved train seat. It’s not like I can say anything.” Lots of people shared stories about their seats being taken, but them being too polite to say anything.

Others joke “I believe it is acceptable to sit on them,” clarifying they’d never do anything of the sort and would rather sit in some cramped compartment.

Boris’s video received more than 9 million views, with almost 450k likes and 8.5k comments supporting him. People showed support for him while making fun of the lady occupying the seat and her defender. Most simply could not believe the audacity of the woman, suggesting that he should sit somewhere else and occupying his seat.

Comments supported Boris and especially roasted the woman that jumped in to defend the passenger

I swear there's an airplane/train/bus drama on BP at least once every week. Totally agree that those ladies needed to get their asses out of those seats though. If I paid for that seat, I'm sitting in it.

All I know is that when I come to the seat I paid for, get your behind up and go where you're supposed to be. I'm that woman who will get the Flight attendant to remove you from the flight if you want to act stupid.

You shouldn’t have to go through the stress of having to battle someone for what you rightfully paid for, and then put up with potential glares the whole trip. Her response should simply be oh sorry and then move.

This is a bigger problem of entitlement. Taking somebody else's designated seat just because you fancy sitting there and think it's ok to inconvenience somebody else because it is what "you" want is how children behave who haven't learned consideration. About a dozen years ago, I was almost 3 months into a college course and had been sitting in the same studio seat at a table from the first day. One morning I come in to find somebody else's stuff piled on the table in front of the seat I always occupied with a jacket on the chair. This person knew full well I always sat there but she had recently befriended the girl at the end of the table beside my usual seat and decided she wanted to sit beside her. All semester she, like everyone else, had their usual seat but because she changed her mind and wanted to sit near her new friend I had to find a different place to work in order to accommodate her without consultation or consideration? Huh? Yeah, no.

Honestly you sound entitled in this sorry, not the girl. You didn't pay for the seat, its not YOUR class, if it's free sitting she can sit were she likes. Your an adult, grow up. And sometimes it's good to shake things to get a new spot to sit. Be lucky you don't have to sit on the floor. Your paid to go to school and for that class, but so did she. You never paid for that specific spot, so deal. You should be paying attention to the class more, not your spot.

Why does there seem to be an epidemic of entitled people? It's not just the seat, in itself, it's the principle. If you've paid for an assigned seat, you have a right to that seat. And people defending her?? "I like this seat better so I'll take this one. Besides, it's closer to my friend." I guess she got her 1 minute of fame. Woman clearly an AH. I just don't get the snotty-a*s attitude of people like this. Sitting there with a big smirk on her face. It's the kind of person you just want to wipe that grin off her face the hard way, but you know you can't.

I'm so sick of people who do this. If I pay for a specific seat, I expect to be able to sit in said specific seat. Same goes to those who expect other people to swap seats on the plane so they can sit with their so and so. It's not my problem that you didn't plan ahead and reserve your seats together. The man in the video isn't being petty or unreasonable because again, he BOUGHT THAT SPECIFIC SEAT.

Check out this guy's content. He likes to mess with people. Annoying "pranks", low-key harassment, etc. You are all judging this woman, but I think you need more context. Also, this is in France, where it's very common to swap seats on the train for convenience reasons, or so you can sit next to a friend/colleague, etc. This guy knows it and is just being a jerk for views.

Had this happen to me in the theatre. It's a personal matter, though. Not sure it was necessary, actually no, it wasn't necessary that this guy put a camera in their face and that likely caused further escalation. When people feel threatened in anyway, even if they know they're in the wrong, if they feel like the confrontation is out of proportion to the issue, such as being publicly shamed for a minor whoopsie, it's just natural for people to get just as overly defensive. That's why we see so many over the top reactions and freak outs on camera. What was happening before things were filmed? What was said to make them get out the camera? My verdict is she needs to move, yes. He needs to calm down and put the camera down instead of looking for an opportune time for a fight. ESH.

It happened to me once, but on a plane. I had reserved a window seat. When I boarded my plane, I found someone else sitting in my seat. His girlfriend or wife was sitting in the middle seat and the aisle seat was empty. When I (politely) informed the guy that he was sitting in my seat, he wouldn't give me the courtesy of even looking at me. He just shook his head and said that, no, my seat was the aisle seat. I looked at my ticket and the little metal diagram above the seats which indicated he was indeed sitting in my seat. I began to look for a flight attendant to set him straight when his girl got up out of her seat and looked at the metal diagram I saw. She said "he's right. That's his seat". Still without giving me the courtesy of looking at me and without giving me an apology, he silently got up out of my seat, I got in, and he sat down on his aisle seat where he belonged. As I sat down in my seat, I thought, "next time get yourself a better travel agent, moron"

I think that guy is extremely petty. That girl didn't even put up much of a fight first of all, and did he even ask to record her and have her face be all over social media? She got yp pretty quickly said sorry it's your seat and moved. What does she get? He posting it all over the place even though he got what he wanted. It would have been fine if he didn't post it. It's his seat and all, if she didn't move then maybe sure, but she did, problem solved, what dies he do? Be extremely petty and publicly shame her to the world. Not okay. People get sued for less

Open seating, sit where avaiable. Assigned seating, sit in your seat. If chose to take another assigned seat and you are asked to move, grab your stuff and leave. Now you can ask to trade but if isn't acceptable for any reason, get up and vacate.

That looked more like a misunderstanding to me. It's not in the video that he told her he actually made a reservation and paid for the seat. The women nearby maybe were intervening because he was he was filming her, which could come off aggressively. Most people don't have reservations when taking the train. They hop on and find a seat. So maybe they didn't had it in mind it may have been paid for in advance. The only one who came across passive aggressive was op, when he said "allez-hop".

You're right that trains in some countries are sometimes a little less structured than planes, but if I'm in a seat that I know isn't mine, I'm always ready to move in a heartbeat. I immediately say "this actually isn't my seat" and stand up, if it even appears that someone else reserved it. And, i expect others to do the same when I reserve my seat. In many countries (Spain, for example) you pay an extra €5-10 to reserve the seat you want.

The biggest drama I ever encountered was when I paid for 3 seats in long distance bus. Where I live they are gianormous and have 2 rows of 3 seats all the way from front to the back of the bus. I simply booked one whole 3seat for myself. People freaked out when I said no, noone can sit with me, as I plan to use all 3 seats for my own comfort and good night sleep in this 10 hours long journey. Even the driver tried to convince me I should give up my paid seats, even tho the bus was half empty.

I booked a seat on a train once and when I got on the car was nearly empty and my seat was beside the one of four people in the car. I was embarrassed to sit there, even though it was my seat. He works for a living, paid for his seat and that is his seat number, he had the right to sit in the seat he was assigned and paid for. The audacity of her just blindly sitting in another person seat that she didn't pay for just displays ignorance on her part. That's no different than stealing.

First you must notify them of their error. If they give rude push-back, you grab whatever they have in their hands like a laptop, pocketbook, etc., and toss it down the aisle, and tell them to go get it. When they do,... sit in your seat.

The other female should have stayed out of it and never put her two cents into it. Wouldn't even bother discussing it. One warning, then lift her bodily out of the seat by her throat. Karens forfeit the privilege of tolerance by choosing to act that way and not back down when called to order. If she wants to be a child, then she gets a spanking and sent to bed without tea. MORE than sick of this kind of behaviour, it's time people were afraid of behaving this badly in public. If they cannot choose civility, they will obey it out of fear, or face reprisals.

I flew home to Florida, once, with a woman I knew from where I currently resided in the row behind us. It was just the way the airline seated us! I had my three children and she had her two. I was going home to see family, she was taking her children on vacation. We intended to meet up for a part of my visit to go to Disney together. She found out that her row, the last row, had no window! She wanted me to swap rows with her so her children could look out a window, but, then, mine wouldn't be able to do so. I told her no. She bitched all the way to Florida, her son puking everywhere! It was an awful trip for her! Other than listening to her complain, it was nice for us! LOL

The other passengers seem to think he could just go to another empty seat. But they are not considering that, at any stop, another passenger could get on and claim that other seat. By that time there may have been no more vacant seats. He had to stick to his guns.

Not knowing how train travel works in (presumably) the US makes it difficult to understand the drama. Why had Mr (fake name?) boris_becker felt it necessary to book a seat? Are all seats on the train allocated to a particular passenger? Was the seat he had booked marked in any way as "reserved"? The stagey looking photos seem to show a number of empty seats nearby, were they there for the taking, or were they also reserved? Why was M_B_B so insistent on having his booked seat, was it the principle of the thing, bloody mindedness, was he concerned about having no where else to sit or did he have a definite need to have that particular seat. All these factors influence how I would view the situation.

For longer trips, I always bought a seat reservation. I had lots of luggage with me, and didn't wanna take it anymore searching and eventually changing a seat. I paid the few € extra, and someone else either didn't, or for another seat, not mine. A few times, I accepted a different but equivalent seat, to not rip apart a family or such, but usually, I wasn't greeted very friendly when arriving at my seat (I also got on board with the last people, for I hate the constantly jammed up in-train-traffic, and as I had a seat reservation, wouldn't need to fight or hurry anyway) by the one who didn't book it. Well, then, just get up and leave - most important, me alone. Or be friendly, be a family seated together or such, and find a solution that supplies them and me with a seat - also fine.

"the lady already sitting there tried pointing out other available seats." And if you would back down and go sit there, you might sit in another persons seat instead, thus the drama continues... Just sit in the seat you are suppoused to - if you sit in the wrong seat, you move. Simple as that. You get on the train, you follow the rules or take a walk.

So she points out other available seats. Let's say for the sake of argument he went along with it and sat in one....oh, but who is this who just arrived? My oh my, its someone who has paid for THAT seat. And so it continues until someone who has paid for a reserved seat has to stand while Lady Entitled over there smugly smiles to herself.

It was wrong of her to sit there and then justify it but don't you guys think that she is "that" rude or a karen type person .If she wanted to sit there she should have asked that guy beforehand. But to directly post the picture of that lady is very wrong.Becos of this she is getting hatred from lots of people. She does not seem a type to throw tantrum atleast though she is wrong.

I was at the cinema a couple of days ago with 2 others and around 10-12 minutes before the film could begin, a group of 4 asked if my party would be willing to shift 2 seats to the right so that they could sit in our row. They seemed to be seated at the far end of our row with the aisle dividing our seats from theirs. I told them if no one claims those seats, we would. They asked another 3-4 times and I kept telling them the same thing. They eventually got frustrated with my response and picked another row. 15 mins into the movie, people claimed those seats next to me. The rightful owners of the seats they picked also arrived and they had to move themselves to their crappy seats. The theatre wasn't even packed and they could have picked better seats while booking. They just didn't. People are just too entitled and lazy and expect others to move around for them.

Honestly, that's what they get for getting there LATE, if they wanted their seats, they should have showed up in time. Show up late to a train? IT LEAVE WITHOUT YOU. Show up 15 minutes late to a movie, why did you even show up?

If I pay extra to choose my seat, then I chose it for a reason. So, if you’re sitting in MY assigned seat, your a*s cheeks will NO LONGER be making an imprint on the cushion anymore. Even if the crew is ineffective and it’s up to ME to physically haul your a*s out of it. If you don’t have an assigned seat, then you should just wait for everyone with their own seat numbers to board and sit in their assigned seats before you even look for a place to sit down—-and even then, you just have to GTFO and move if someone with an assigned seat arrives late. The easiest way to enforce this is have people with assigned seat tickets board and get seated BEFORE allowing the “first come, first served” ticket holders board. Don’t airlines do that anymore?

It didn't really matter, he paid for his seat and he should have gotten his seat. This man was not mean about getting what he paid for and he was very polite and insisted that he wanted his seat.

Oh, wait.... Guess I have not been on a train for quite awhile - you can reserve a seat on a train like on an airplane?

Sorry not sorry. I pay for a seat I expect to be able to sit in it. They can keep talking out the sides of their mouths all they want

Me, to stewardess: I will sit elsewhere, for a first class seat, and a full cash refund in my hand. That is my only concession. Your call. *fold arms*

I never had this problem in China. When someone was sitting in my seat and I showed them my ticket, they would move out and let me sit. All the seats are bought if you take the train in Canada, so that doesn't happen.

If you accept to sit elsewhere ,an other person can claim that place,so the problem will be the same.better is that everybody sit in his or her booked place.

Do people automatically turn on their cameras once they leave the house so they can film very single second of their lives in case they have anything happen and post it on social media? You paid for the seat , sit down.

I would've said the exact thing you're in my seat move I paid for this seat. Now as for the other lady I would've told her to mind her business this doesn't concern her I paid for this seat and she needs to move now! Case closed and if you don't move I will get the conductor to move you.

Yeahp there you go, there's your Equality. Why should he accommodate your bs anymore than he would for a dude? I equally wouldn't tolerate a man or woman doing that. Now drink up that nice tall glass of Equality and you go find another seat. And look at those other little chickens sticking their noses where it don't belong. Yes, cluck cluck to you too.

Not true at all. We (two females) were travelling from London to Manchester on the train, and a man was spread all over the 4- seat booth, laptop, briefcase, suitcase etc, and was annoyed we wanted our booked seats.

I don't know about which part I'm more shocked. The part where she was so self entitled she didn't wanna give up a reserved seat, the ignorant passenger defending her or the fact that most of y'all are native English speakers and can't f*****g compose a proper f*****g sentence in your own f*****g language

Meh, trains are often half empty. I've gotten rows to myself by giving up my reserved seat so friends could sit together. It's not like it's a different class of car. People just love to complain
