Jennifer Lopez and Shakira delivered a memorable halftime show at this year’s Super Bowl. At times it even seemed that people were talking about it more than the game itself. However, the opinions were very mixed.

While some applauded the multi-platinum-selling superstars for their singing and stage presence, others despised the performance calling it overly-sexualized.

Regardless of where you stand on the issue, there’s one aspect of the show we can all agree on. People have posted quite a few hilarious reactions to it. Especially parents. Everything began with a Facebook post by Meridith Masony. After she explained what it was like to watch the broadcast that featured pole dancing with her 14-year-old, other moms and dads responded with their own confessions.

Interestingly, Shakira and Jennifer Lopez didn’t actually make any money. Instead, the pop divas will be paid “union scale,” which is only “a fraction of the six- and seven-figure sums” they regularly rake in. And it isn’t unusual. Most Super Bowl halftime performers, including Maroon 5 and Travis Scott, have essentially worked for free.

But this doesn’t mean that the NFL is simply being cheap. According to Forbes, the organization spends about $10 million in production costs, giving the singers a chance to advertise their work in front of more than 100 million people.

“The halftime show at the Super Bowl remains a highly coveted spot for many artists,” entertainment attorney Lori Landew of Fox Rothschild told Forbes. “Some of those artists do not see their appearance as a political statement, nor do they see the show as a cultural battleground, but rather view their live performance as an opportunity to entertain an enthusiastic crowd and to share their music and their talent with millions of viewers.”

And by the looks of it, it’s already working. Not only the media is buzzing. People on social media are discussing every second of the show as well.

It was awesome. Just from the picture above you can see J Lo was even wearing undies under her skinsuit. People need to get a grip. I seen Janet Jackson's whole titty when I was younger and I'm still alive.

Let's be honest with ourselves and each other for just a moment: A lot of these women are not upset because of what J Lo was wearing, they are upset because of their husbands' reaction to what J Lo was wearing. They didn't have a problem with Adam Levine appearing on this "family program " shirtless and they don't have a problem with the cheerleaders, but they have a problem with J Lo. Are you kidding me? The one lady who "had to cover the TV with a blanket" is the most ridiculous. This is why women can't move forward. Other women hating on women.

Let's be honest with ourselves just a minute. Our culture has become so numb to the idea of sexualizing women's bodies and to the fear of behind snarked by people who think it's more with it if they disagree, that they'll either keep quiet, post in support of objectifying women (because, "come on, women are only being discriminated against by conservatives", cough cough) or down vote any of us who speak out for real feminism. You don't have yo be ugly or out of shape to be a feminist, but sexualizing women's bodies isn't going to help any of us. Additionally, have any of you ever heard of anorexia nervosa, bulimia or purging syndrome?

I think it's curious that we're all celebrating Lizzo for dressing in skimpy, sexy attire, even showing up to an NBA game as a spectator in a thong. But if the women are thin and conventionally attractive, suddenly it's anti-feminist. I know part of it is that Lizzo is breaking boundaries for body positivity. But so are Shakira and J Lo. Think about it. These are two middle-aged women, age 43 and 50 (!). Not only are they still strong and talented and sexy and healthy, but they're independent successful career women. In previous generations, the only appropriate goals for women that age were retirement and grandchildren. I don't see it as anti-feminist that they dance on a pole. I see it as anti-feminist to slam them for it.

The pictures of these kids seem staged. How is it in that exact moment these parents got a pic of their kids reactions. People find the dumbest things to complain about, they could of performed in a moo moo and someone would of complained it was the wrong color. I hope these same parents monitor everything their kids do online and cover their eyes when the cheerleaders perform.

There's a big difference between performing in a way that shows strength, agility and grace and moving and presenting the body in an obvious sexual fashion. This isn't "hating," its a matter of respecting the person instead of objectifying the body. Sigh. People these days have no idea of what feminism really stands for. Sigh.

Yeah, they're hot, but they gotta work their asses off to look like that. Fitness, nutritional coaching, cosmetics, hairdressing - you can't achieve this without effort and money. But honestly why is it okay for so many people to adore a half-naked man and a half-naked woman is offensive? It is their job and it feeds their family to look and dress like this.

I was looking forward to seeing Shakira and J Lo they put on a great show, but it started to get a little strange. Shakira started the tongue wiggling, so I was thinking oh ok we have a lot of Middle Easterners in the U.S. now, so that's a nod to them ( Didn't know she was part Lebanese until later). The hip shaking is nothing new for Shakira, but didn't understand the tying of the rope around her wrists and belly dancing though. When J Lo came on it was like oh! there's J Lo's crotch her outfit accented it perfectly couldn't stop staring at it wondering how it all stayed in place. When the pole came out I was like J Lo No!.You don't need a pole Girl you are fierce! I changed my mind when she got up there I was like damn.. Girl you in shape! These ladies were so hot they made the stage blow. The male symbol lit up and then shot it's load of stars and the orbs started to appear with the children inside at this point my husband and I were laughing hysterically (too much beer) Great show

Bondage? I can see where it can be very erotic. But I don't support that fit a public performance. All my life I've heard people like y'all saying, "Hey, it's no big deal, it's just a show." But would you say something about an African American performing in a monkey suit? Would y'all say, "it's ok, we're beyond that? Or, get a grip!"

Did not see the halftimeshow, didn't care( european). But the outrage about everything even remotely sexualis funny in acountry, were kids have to be afraid to go to school because of shootings. A vagina ( not a vayayay, as it is some kind of cutesy pet, because you' re afraid of a proper word) has never been something to be afraid of. Sex should not be something to ve afraid of. Tell your child how to have sex with intelligence and trust them. But trust is something a good puritan just can't do, isn't it? And feminism is about waves. Right now, the wave is cover yourselves up for emancipation, in the sixties, go sleep around for emancipation. All of these people are feminists, but they are from completely different agendas. Being a feminist doesn' t care if you dance naked and have multiple sexual partners or being a virgin with forty. It's about being ok with your choice.

Comparing gymnasts or ice skaters to JLo is inappropriate. JLo was putting it out there to purposely show off her goods. Sliding crotch-first towards the camera twice is no accident or just part of the routine. The ice skaters isnt constantly skating around with her leg in the air, being an exhibitionist. Same for the gymnast. AND they are more covered than JLo, even with the sheer costumes they may wear. The clothing isn't designed purposely to barely cover important parts. JLo purposely wore skin tones panties and mesh with sparkles and sequins jusssttt covering her bits.

Just wondering, why women assume they have to be half naked to be recognized? In performing arts, in sports, in business (other than that of entertaining gentlemen). I think, this is the reason they are not often taken seriously as layers, doctors, journalists, and other high skilled professionals. Showing a lot of skin won't necessarily get you respect and recognition; (that does not mean that women should come to work all buttoned up and covered from the head to toe). Choose elegance instead.

Oh please, they knew exactly what they were doing, and knew what the show was going to consist of, they had to sign off on the whole thing and get it past the network censors. Why be ashamed of the humain body ? This attitude is puritaine and very unhealth. A country with so many arms per person is shocking and dangerous. So many mass murders in school That does'nt shock puritains Who own weapens. I find this so sad.

You know I'm impressed with some of these Mother's and how well they handled the half time show. Dancing is part of life and in this day and time you really cannot hide your kids under a basket to protect them from life. All you can do is try and explain it the best you can and pray they understand. This sadly, is what the world is coming too, so get use to it.

First I want to say based on past half time performances, if you are a parent that doesn't want your children exposed to overtly sexual performances, then you should know by now to send them away for half time, because this isn't the first show that has had this kind of dancing. Whether you wish it was kid friendly or not, it isn't so don't let your kids watch. End of story. That being said, to compare the performance to figure skating or gymnastics, is apples to oranges. It is not the outfits that make the performance inappropriate it is the moves of the person wearing the outfit that make it overtly sexual and by some parental standards inappropriate for children.

What are we, back in the Victorian or puritan era?!? FFS grow up all you stupid moronic imbeciles. "I put a blanket over the TV" why s**t for brains? because you are too stupid to realize that JLo was wearing a flesh colored bodysuit as well as the shiny bits?!? I shouldn't have kept asking how stupid people could get... they seem to have taken it as a challenge.

Get real. Indeed, nothing wrong with nudity or near nudity. What' was wrong and inappropriate for the venue was the clearly sexualized dancing - like the closeups of crotches thrusting into a camera.

I think a lot of people complain that boys grow up thinking it's okay to sexualize women, and they need to be taught that all women are people and deserve to be treated with respect. With that being said, while I loved the performance, I don't think it helped people teach their children not to sexualize women. It's sad that it's a thing that has to be taught to some kids, but if we want to see less adults doing it, we have to teach that it's wrong from a young age.

There's a difference between sexualizing and objectifying. If a woman wants to wear tight clothes or be flirty, good for her, I support that, that's her choice. However objectifying a woman is when you talk about a girl's body who doesn't want people to sexualize her. J Lo's and Shakiras performance was a very sexual performance, it was meant to be sexualized. A girl just walking home in a crop top minding her business doesn't want to be sexualized, that's objectifying.

In fairness, I was also a little horrified watching the halftime show last year... with my niece and father in the room. Don't get me wrong, both performances were great, but it's the whole, watching it with a mixed audience thing.

I'm seeing a lot of women celebrating these two performers for using their sexuality to grab onto power. Then, in the next breath, they teach their daughters and sons how inappropriate this behavior is.

It's curious how society's morals are plastic. Few decades ago, if you wanted to watch this kind of performance, you had to hit the first strip club close to you. Nowadays it's alright to expose even our children to such a fluffy slutty entertainment.

Two wrongs don't make a right. If an entertainment venue describes itself as family-friendly then it should stay that way. There should be no graphic violence, limited use of harsh language and the men and women are dressed decently. If don't portray this as family-friendly.

Sigh.

The NFL are now claiming they are surprised by the backlash. Oh please, they knew exactly what they were doing, and knew what the show was going to consist of, they had to sign off on the whole thing and get it past the network censors. You know they're loving all the attention and can't wait to stir up even more controversy next year.

My 2 points exactly!! #1 - how are the cheerleaders or beer/go-daddy commercials with women scantily clad or innuendos ANY different?!? #2 - complaining about a woman pole dancing at an NFL game is just hilarious.

There's a huge difference between JLo simulating masturbation and ice skating outfits. People that are making the comparisons because it shows the same amount of a crotch are totally missing the point.

The cheerleaders show more skin at every game. Shakira is gorgeous. And she can shake that booty.

In ice skating and gymnastic no one make vulgar moves like what J lo did in half time.

I didn't watch because I figured it would be just another boring Super Bowl half time show. Looks like I was right. Pole dancing? Seen one you've seen them all. I didn't even think it was still being done.

There is a clear difference between gymnastic sports and sexually explicit dancing. It is not illegal to take your kids to gym- it is illegal to take them to a strip club - there is a reason for that... learn it

    Didn't see it. In fact, I haven't seen a Super Bowl since 1975. I gather that I didn't miss much... -Dr M

Americans are such prudes when it comes to skin showing or what they call "nudity." A bunch of hypocrites! It's funny how these people kept letting their kids watch it and report on it instead of changing the channel or telling their kids to look away. Smdh.

Why be ashamed of the humain body ? This attitude is puritaine and very unhealth. A country with so many arms per person is shocking and dangerous. So many mass murders in school That does'nt shock puritains Who own weapens. I find this so sad.

Just one question - If you thought it was inappropriate for your kids to be watching why didn't you turn the TV off?

JLo was wearing a flesh colored bodysuit with the shiny stuff... NOTHING WAS GOING TO BE SHOWING.... F*****g stupid prudes being stupid prudes.

These moms need to stop trying to sexualize young children. Get over it and grow up. They are also probably the moms that only have sex once a month with the lights off missionary style every dam time.

So you are campaigning to get NFL cheerleaders off the field? They actually do face horrible sexual harassment and low pay. 4ACB4F3900...774425.jpg 4ACB4F3900000578-5574725-image-a-46_1522783774425.jpg
