I Create Bugs, Butterflies, And Insects Using Recycled Paper, Wire And Thread
I am an artist in the UK and a little bit obsessed with insects! So a few years ago I tried to recreate my favourite specimens using recycled paper, wire and thread. I now have a collection of around 100 different species and am still adding to it!
The insects are all hand cut using a scalpel and some of them are embroidered by hand to create their patterns and textures.

This is a selection of the insects I have made so far
I make them all life size so when displayed together they are proportionally correct.
Each insect takes between 1 and 5 hours to make
I carve rolls of paper to create their bodies and cut out wings and armour to fit around them. The legs are wrapped with thread and paper
The bugs are displayed in box frames with pins and labels as though they are part of an old entomology collection
I also use a variety of different vintage or recycled objects to display my work in
Here are some plants and other things inspired by nature

Share on FacebookAny chance of any of these pieces being for sale? Also, great work- I love fact that no insects were harmed for this. Kind of sickens me when you see those tubs in stores FILLED with insects put in glass (although to be fair there's no knowing where they actually came from) and sold as trinkets. Beautiful work :)
Thanks very much! I understand what you mean about the bugs in glass! I do sell my work, I have a shop www.kasasagi.etsy.com but its a bit bare at the moment as I've just got back from a fair and it all needs a bit of sorting! Fingers crossed I'll be adding a few more things over the next week or two! :)

I would need a Thesaurus to tell you how much I love your insects, mere words of my own would not be enough. I have a cousin in San Francisco, Hunters Point Shipyard. Lynn Rubenzer Please check out her site. She is mainly a painter but she has a line of paper mache' birds, creatures she makes and I think you both would inspire each other. I will be sure to give her your site info so she can see your incredible creatures too.
Aw, thanks very much! I will Google her now! I always like to find new artists :)
