I Built A Tiny Model Of Monica’s Kitchen From “Friends” (11 Pics)
I was asked to take part in an art show a few years ago and figured it would be a nice challenge to recreate the set of “Friends.” It was made using 100% recycled paper products and painted in acrylic. Everything you see was hand-cut using an 18mm box cutter and a ruler. Nothing is pre-built or repurposed from anything else. It might not be perfectly to scale, but I was going off just a couple of screenshots.

Monica’s kitchen
This was my first step: laying out space and fudging the dimensions to how I wanted it
Here you can see the rough-ins for the cabinets
Making the little fridge magnets was probably my favorite part
That blue color mixed perfectly
All the furniture was handmade (hand for scale)
The rough build of the table with a stubby pencil for scale
Different angle for the sink window that shows off the custom-painted curtains
The notorious post and beam… Only really used for the first few episodes of the first season because the cast kept running into it
Kitchen cupbards set dressed and looking great!
And of course, this wouldn’t be complete without the classic frame on the door!

Share on FacebookHow did you make the objects? It doesn't look like paper. I've always wanted to do something like this but never knew how to make tiny 3D things. I'd love some sort of tutorial. Or is it a trade secret? ;)
I use a mix of different paper products. Cardboard, matte board, and different thicknesses of paper. It's no trade secret, more of a learned skill. And in saying that, everyone works differently with the same materials, so it's more of an exploratory art.
Load More Replies...It makes me want to see the living room too. Oh, and Chandler and Joey's place. The recliners, duck and chick... What fun this is.
LOL I'm binge-watching FRIENDS right now. Love It!! Your work is super. Maybe you could add the famous "cookie time" cookie jar.
Hilariously, the crew would actually move and change things on the fridge constantly, so they were pretty irregular. Mine are exact to the screen shot I used S reference, however, so they're as correct as they can be 😅
Load More Replies...yes it has! there's a neat story about it by the set designer who chose the color so that it would POP when people would be channel surfing. It's the same reason i use a purple cutting matte for my work. That way whenever you're browsing through Insta you can catch that color out of the corner of your eye and go "oooh there's new work posted!" :)
Load More Replies...This is so cute and creative! It must have taken a long time to make and research the sizes of everything and a 3d view of the room. I love it.
Thank you! and yes... it took a few weeks researching in my spare time before i could sit down to build it.
Load More Replies...That is amazing! I am enchanted by minitures and these are relevant to my early adulthood! Amazing work!
They are all so amazing and perfectly made. The artist really must have high patience make such things with high details. Kudos to the artist. I am really amazed and inspired by this art
Before you hate me I never watched the show but being an idiot (I almost died to a NECKLACES pls someone get that reference) I can see the effort and skill put in I watch birds and honestly it's hard to draw a BIRD in real life so to get multiple angles of a TV show room must be impossible
It certainly was an interesting puzzle to put together
