I Started To Paint 6 Months Ago, Here Are The Results

The main difference between traditional and digital art is that there is no “undo” button especially when it comes to watercolor. I have started my watercolor journey just 6 months ago. For my very first painting, I used some 6 colors watercolor set which you can find in any supermarket’s crafts section. And I didn’t even know the difference between professional watercolor paper and paper I could buy in a supermarket.

But painting animals doesn’t feel like creating a decent looking painting out of its reference. It’s about sharing a mood and building character’s personality. And of course, every animal is like my own pet and I wanted only the best for them. So a couple of moths ago I finally purchased my first professional block of watercolor paper and a decent set of watercolors. And I was surprised how important tools are. Proper tools give you +10 (or 100!) to your skills! You can save on brushes, even on paints but never try to save on paper! It does make a difference.

Since I don’t dare to call myself a professional yet. I always paint on a smaller sheet of paper first and then I make a larger and better-looking version of the painting.

Look fantastic. I'm going to assume you were actually drawing/etc. prior to working in watercolor?

8 years ago DotsCreated by potrace 1.15, written by Peter Selinger 2001-2017

I took some painting classes back in school, but it was...weird: they didn't even tell us that we should use watercolor paper for watercolor, and didn't show us any techniques. It reminded more of painting walls with huge brush. And the results were as ugly as the process itself lol But yes, I've been drawing a lot since I was little :)

Thank you! I started by watching random videos on YouTube. 90% percent of them are actually useless even though artists do a great job... Try watching Mind of watercolour - the guy actually explains how to APLLY basic techniques.

Not from zero of course. I took architectural drawing classes back when I was I student. But drawing shapes (cubes, spheres and architectural elements) is a completely different from watercolor and animals:)

i really love them but i wont buy the 6 months story. I am a professional artist and illustrator and as a person who finished fine arts i can spot really easy a trained artist or an amateur and your work shows signs of years of drawing studies, anathomy and geometry. Even the strokes and fine details of your brush reveals learned knowledge of how to handle and master the art of painting. Excellent job and very talented, but please, don't use anymore the story of 6 months genius epiphany.paint by numbers

Just goes to show anyone can do anything if they set their mind to it,and nothing will stop them not even time,I have a similar story,I had never really played soccer, except in school,a few years ago I gave it a shot, after 2 years of relentless practice,I surpassed all my friends who were once better than me,and played their whole lives, most of them, and people were asking me if I was a professional, nope ,I never played,I have yet to play an official game on an official team, just a f*#k ton of hard work sweat and practice, kudos to you

You should increase the price of your paintings if you want to be recognised as a world class artist, the price you are currently selling them don't do justice to your work.
