Many people have started up new crafts or gone back to old arts throughout this year to keep busy and sane during these strange times.

Painting is somewhere I can go and focus, meditate, and create.

My favorite canvas to paint on is feathers, which require concentration, dexterity, and a pinch of daring. Here are a few of my favorite "lockdown" feathers from this year. Here is my previous post if you want to check it out.

I'm an artist based on the northeast coast of the UK amongst the stunning beaches and rolling hills. I live with my husband, who is also an artist, and our rescue dog Coupa and we love trips to the beach and going for adventures in our camper to Scotland... we like to call it research! I've always been in love with nature, color and form.

I've always made art in some form from a young age. But specialized in graphite portraits when I first became a commercial artist ten years ago.

The feathers were an experiment, not knowing that it already existed as an art form. I literally had a feather and a long frame and I love a challenge!

I love painting feathers and I have learnt so much about ornithology over the past eight years. All feathers behave differently so each new artwork is a challenge. I love pushing the boundaries and myself by painting multiple feathers at the same time or using particularly delicate feathers.

I love nature and all animals, the fact that I am able to use part of that to make my art is wonderful. Feathers are stunning in themselves, and when discarded by a bird, what better way to honor that and nature by creating something beautiful from them.

A single artwork can take anything from four to forty hours depending on size, feather type and the actual artwork.

I've seen lots of paintings done on feathers, but never ones done on more than one feather! Fascinating!
