I'm a Berlin-based artist creating 'Very Ugly Plates'. Almost every single item is inspired by a real-life story. Some are drawn from the frivolous antics of my best friend, who also happens to act as the editor-in-chief for a selection of my favorite plate captions. Others are often prompted by overheard gossip, urban observations, or simply my state of mind at the time. As it turns out, my most inspiring emotional state is that of disappointment.

The main goal of these plates is to surprise people and make them laugh. Even though my sense of humor is a bit bitter and dark sometimes, it still brings a smile to people's faces. The idea came to me when I found a cute little plate at a charity auction. It was a plate with cute baby seals. I knew that I needed to write something dirty on it. So I got it and painted 'send nudes'. I posted it on my Facebook and all my friends were obsessed and wanted to buy it. The 1st plate was bought by my friend for 15€ and now lives in London.
Each plate has some story that I create in my mind. Sometimes it just pops up straight away, but sometimes it takes a really long time. I have plates that are waiting already for 3 years and I still don't have a good story for them.
I decided to write dark humor on these plates because it's me! I'm just serving myself on the plate. Even though some plates are about parties and drinking (and I don't do any of those things), they are still a description of me if I would do those things.
My style is not obvious, it's fresh, surprising, and sometimes has a deeper meaning and some darkness hidden underneath. I started creating these plates in the summer of 2018 and I'm not planning to stop. I feel that there is still so much to discover with this medium. However, I have already started working on a few other projects. Some of them will still be related to porcelain.
I don't wanna ever go back to a 9-5 boring job. But if you ask me what inspires me to make plates, I would say that it is observation. Sometimes I feel like a machine that sucks in reality, processes it inside, and a plate comes out.
If you want to create art, here are some tips from me: be intelligent with the art that you are doing. Make sure that your art really stands for your way of seeing the world, always develop, and never be boring. The world does not need boring art.
My journey was long and sometimes difficult. I was trying many things in life. Since I was a kid, my parents pushed me to be an artist as I was talented and always very creative. In high school, I decided that I don't want to rely on my creativity so I went in a completely different direction. I was doing everything but art. And then when I was 31 years old and had a broken heart, my creativity exploded. And Very Ugly Plates is a child of that explosion. And here are some fun facts about me: I have a big dog, I can ride on a unicycle, and I play Minesweeper expert level in 94 seconds.
I'm told I was very cross when my little sister was born as I'd been under the impression she'd be ready to play with me straight away…in my defence I was only three myself at the time ;-)
Yasss my friends and I used to say this in high school all the time or nice socks wanna f*ck or nice pants or whatever sounded funny at the time.
I need this plate in my life, so many instances it would come in handy.
These are all horrible that's what makes them fantastic. This is the best thing I've ever seen done to a plate. Thank you for these. If you sell them I will buy them there was a few in there that I wish I could own
