All well and good but it only tells part of the story - how much energy and resources are used processing it, how scalable is this if there’s not enough waste avacados etc etc.

You can search their we site’s FAQ: https://biofase.com.mx/ And I’d rather have avocado seed sitting somewhere decomposing than the byproducts of plastic manufacturing!

It would be a good thing. Only the downside is that a avocado farm uses a massive amount of water. Edit 1: It can also be heavenly regulated by cartels making it a lucrative criminal investment. I think there is a documentary called the green gold Edit : here is a link to an article on environmental damage. https://www.weforum.org/agenda/2020/02/avocado-environment-cost-food-mexico/

Wow, I got some forks made from cornstarch that I was surprised to discover were stronger than actual plastic. Though considering avocado seeds are basically a waste product of avocados, that sounds even better and potentially stronger than cornstarch! Less waste, less plastic... Win, win!

To learn more about how Unbelievable Facts came to be, we reached out to Gourav Gola, the founder of the website, who was kind enough to have a chat with Bored Panda. “My inspiration to start this page came from my passion for learning new things and sharing that knowledge with others,” Gourav said, noting that the full story of how the site began can be found right here. “Witnessing the growth and popularity of the page has been an incredible and humbling experience, and I'm excited to see where it goes from here.”

And when it comes to what he loves most about sharing these facts, Gourav says, “[It’s] that both my audience and I get to learn something new every day. This constant exchange of knowledge fosters a sense of community and mutual growth, making it a win-win for everyone involved.”

Children need to learn "the facts of life" - and that includes Aunt Flo's monthly visits. Study after study after study has proven that students in school districts with comprehensive sex ed have noticeably lower rates of teen pregnancy than those with abstinence-only "education."

Those men can still be "good" men if they wanted to, there doesn't need to be the oppressive system that is religion to do good things. Why not open any number of types of helpful, nonprofit organizations that don't require a relinquishment of one's soul to receive help? Yet they stick with a for-profit organization built around the subjugation? Religion is a dangerous brainwashing, as history (and the present) prove.

REALLY? Hard to see?! You must have been lucky and grown up outside of any religion. Nearly every religion (if not all) are highly against people understanding, genuinely, how our anatomy works, especially if you're female. If you're female, you're a uterus with legs. No mouth nor brain, just a uterus (who should stay on the outskirts of town in your red tent once a month).

We also asked the creator of Unbelievable Facts if he has any favorite fun facts he’s ever shared, and he noted that this one stands out as one of his favorites: “In 2011, after being lost at sea for 33 days, a man finally washed ashore in the Marshall Islands. He then discovered that his uncle, believed to have drowned at sea about 50 years earlier, had also wound up on the same island and started a family there.” UF recently published an article on this amazing story that you can find right here.

Gourav also shared that UF has a dedicated team that conducts thorough research to ensure the accuracy and relevance of the information they share. “While we primarily rely on our team's efforts, we're always open to engaging with our followers and considering their submissions,” he added.

I wish there were somewhere we could leave an epitaph for our wonderful dog. It might read: Willie, you were the glue that kept our family together as we laughed at your feistiness, marveled at your intelligence and now, grieve for your loss. You are irreplaceable." It is only now, 10 years later that we have begun to think of adopting another dog.

He set a great example, always stay genuine, don’t change for the worst. Don’t succumb to greed and develop an ego bigger than your head. Don’t change who you are unless you want to change for the better. We all have hearts, and we should all use our hearts to make this world a better place for the people living in it. If they don’t deserve it, hey, just kill ‘em with kindness 🤷🏻‍♂️ That’s good enough 👍🏻

To hear more about why we should all be lifelong learners, we also reached out to fun fact expert and owner of The Fact Site, Luke Ward. First, we wanted to know what inspired Luke to start a site dedicated to facts. “I’ve always loved hearing and sharing random facts, and back in 2008, I was researching fun facts to tell during Christmas dinner, but there weren't really any websites devoted to facts,” he explained. “It was before the days of Facebook pages, and I decided to create The Fact Site so others wouldn’t have to struggle finding fun facts to share.”

We were also curious about what the best parts of running The Fact Site are for Luke. “What I love the most about sharing fun facts is that it’s endless!” he shared. “After 14 years of sharing facts, I’m continuously learning things I never thought I’d need to know, and I love it!”

"Ingested the bacteria" makes it sound quite sanitary. What he did was to prove that the ulcers were infective in nature, so he used a nasogastric tube to suck out the stomach juices of a patient who had ulcers, and drank those juices himself. He drank them warm (freshly sucked out) because the Helicobacter bacterium was really difficult to grow in the lab so he had to drink it quick to make sure they were still alive. He's an Australian physician, so that probably accounts for his 'sod the rules, I'm doing it my way' experimental style.

I'm grateful to him. I developed stomach ulcers as a teenager and by my 20s, I was suffering. My doctor was aware of a study being done to further prove his theory but I had missed the deadline to participate. She said, "We're going to do our own study!" and put me on the appropriate antibiotics. That was the last ulcer issue.

Same with phage therapy. A doctor/scientist figured that viruses can kill bacteria (bacteriophages) and he found a way to cure the lethal blood diarrhea in kids caused by Shigella. He infected himself and then drank a "cocktail of bacteriophages" and got rid of it.

I've mentioned on BP that I grew up on Martha's Vineyard and was 13 when they filmed Jaws. Lee Fierro was an islander - she lived on MV year-round. She was always involved with theater on the island. She taught summer theater classes (I remember going to one), and was very involved with the Island Theatre Workshop, which is still active today. I thought it was wonderful that Steven Spielberg cast a local actress for that part. She died of Covid in 2020 at the age of 91.

I like Jeffrey's version of the story much more than this! "At the restaurant I run there is a sandwich called the 'Alex Kintner Burger' and one time this lady came in with her friend and I recognised instantly it was my mother from the film. So I approached her table and said ‘Can I ask you a very personal question, if you think this is a little odd tell me to go away, but do you believe in reincarnation, because I think I died years ago and you look like my mother from a previous life’. And Lee realised who I was and so she went along with the joke and said ‘Oh my god, I had a son that died years ago in the ocean!’ And everyone in the restaurant, including her friend were just wondering what the hell was going on!" When it comes to how Luke decides what to share on the site, he told Bored Panda, “The topics I usually share come from anything that I find fascinating, or something that I have no knowledge of, because chances are, if I think it’s interesting, others will too!”

“My favorite facts to learn are usually to do with the animal kingdom or space,” Luke added. “For example, did you know that when Uranus was discovered, it was called George for about 70 years, named after King George III?”

This is why my sister is a guinea pig. 1) she can’t sit still. 2) she’s hyper around people she doesn’t know we’ll probably because she’s nervous. 3) she’s got a round face. Not chubby, just round shaped. 4) she MUST socialize. Feeling extrovert. Bonus: if you scare her, she may have a near death experience like a Guinea pig. I once barely scared her and couldn’t tell whether she was having an asthma or panic attack. Poor girl, I’m very sorry I did that to her

I used to be in executive HR for a fortune 500 and I can't tell you how many meetings I was in to discuss what and how many things we were going to take away from 5000 plus employees so the ceo, director and all the VPs could get bigger bonuses by cutting costs. In the US, you are required by law to move to the right if you see/hear lights/sirens. You can actually be arrested if you're blocking an emergency vehicles passage, even if you have to get on the median

    Mathias

Same in all European countries and I guess all countries in the world. The thing is: when the traffic came to a standstill and you are bumper on bumper you can't move your vehicle anymore, that's why these lanes have to be formed before you can't move your vehicle anymore.

You're also legally required to help someone in an emergency. All drivers must be trained in first aid and unlike in the US, you can't be sued for getting it wrong. Even when there's danger (such as someone getting attacked), the minimum you have to do after getting to safety is call the emergency services. If you don't you could face criminal charges.

What if there is alrdy extra side space like on other side of road? Still required or emerg vehicles can pass in that side lane safely?

    Mathias
    Community Member
2 years ago Created by potrace 1.15, written by Peter Selinger 2001-2017

Still required, vehicle drivers on the left lane have to go as far left as they can, all other lanes have to go as far right as they can, moving their vehicle completely onto the emergency lane. Studies did reveal that emergency vehicles reach the place of accident much faster that way. Even with some drivers not getting the system and blocking the way. Because they do the same with the emergency lane when they try to get off the motorway and there is a jam at the off ramp.

The picture depicts a so called "Rettungsgasse", an emergency lane. It is true that it is anchored in traffic law. Unfortunately, it is also true that the German Karens and male Karens very often refuse, resp.drive with their SUVs on this lane.

Excellent idea. But the USA seems to have more than its fair share of really entitled drivers and they are so self centered, they don’t even get out of the way at all for emergency vehicles. But… some still claim to be pro’ MERICA! Yet have no cares for anyone else.

If you’re interested in learning some fun facts about learning itself, Alicia Beharry wrote a piece for Skyprep detailing some of the most interesting things science has taught us about how we learn, one of which being that our emotions actually play a part in how well we learn. Research has shown that how we’re feeling has a substantial influence on our cognitive processes, particularly how well we can pay attention. Nice. At the risk of being "that guy" - species do not go extinct by geographical location. The biological definition of extinct is "the complete disappearance of a species from Earth"

Not the most important point to take away here :) where they geographically exist is actually important to earth’s biology. We could keep them all in a big metal box underground and still say “they’re not extinct” if we wanted to, but that wouldn’t mean they’re ok.

Fun fact: in comparison to other big cats cheetahs can't actually roar. They are very smol so best they can do is meow... You know, like a cat

Problem is due to genetic bottleneck, the cheetahs genetic diversity is very low. Meaning the species is no longer resilient to e.g. climate changes or other environmental changes. Because of this bottleneck, hundreds of thousands individuals only correspond to around 70 individuals. Because they are all bred from a very small genetic pool when it was about to go extinct. This means, that they are more vulnerable to go extinct than before basically. This is why diversity is very important.

The problem in this particular area has/had absolutely nothing to do with genetic diversity and everything to do with humans causing them-intentionally I might add-to go functionally extinct in the area. Genetic diversity is a problem as a whole, but in India, this is actually the least of the cheetah's problems (and other large cats as well). India still doesn't have a hold on over-development and hunting. This is precisely why no other nation, except Namibia, was willing to assist them with repopulating some of these species. The, quite founded, fear is that India will not only allow but actually cause them to go functionally extinct in the area again. There have been countless stories, reports and large amounts of coverage of this particular act-and how very little faith anyone has in India in regards to not screwing this up (it's an almost certainty at this point, their track record, and even planning for this is abysmal).

At the rate India is reproducing, they'll be extinct once again sooner rather than later. They're already at 1.4 BILLION.

He also donated his $35,000,000 salary from *The Matrix 2* to the crew, iirc, stating that “he could live on what he had made [by that time] for eons,” so having that money didn’t matter to him.

Some good news is that social interaction can actually be beneficial when it comes to learning. While some of us prefer to be in silent rooms all by ourselves when studying, research has found that it can also be helpful to learn information through social cues such as remembering words that someone else has said or emulating their actions. This is why you might prefer having an actual teacher or professor in front of you over staring at a screen and simply watching a video.

And while we may assume that flooding our brains with as much information as possible is the best way to retain something, this method doesn’t always pan out the way we’d like it to. Once we hit a point of “cognitive overload”, we can’t actually learn at all. So to avoid feeling overwhelmed, we can utilize quantitative or qualitative learning methods. Quantitative learning involves providing smaller amounts of new information and allowing learners to understand most of what they have already been presented before introducing more information. And qualitative learning entails mixing up presentation methods to keep learners from becoming overwhelmed or fatigued.

I'd like to know if this phenomenon is shared across climbers of different cultural backgrounds. I read somewhere that experiences of paranormal for most western cultures such as claims of ghostly visitations tend to be malicious, haunting and generally negative; whereas in most African and eastern cultures claim to experience in benign form, spirits of ancestors offering guidance and wisdom, missed loved ones coming to console and soothe etc. I find the contrast interesting

Scientists have also found that making mistakes is not only perfectly fine when learning, it’s actually essential. It can be difficult to resist the urge to try to be perfect all the time, but this mindset can be damaging when attempting to learn something new. We can’t be scared to fall off of our bicycles or too embarrassed to practice that foreign language we’ve been trying to learn with native speakers. Research has found that students are much more successful in their learning and performance when they are assured that failure is normal and to be expected. When we put too much pressure on ourselves, we actually inhibit our learning. But when we relax and understand that it’s not the end of the world to make mistakes, we do much better.

There are different levels of Down syndrome. Although the original was trisomy 21, about half the people with it have only part of chromosome 21 triplicated. There is a whole spectrum of less severe cases than the original. This woman has one of the less severe variants.

That's called Mosaic. Downs kids who are Mosaic have a much higher IQ. There are different levels of intellectual competency between different people that have Downs that are not necessarily Mosaic. I prayed for a long time my baby would be Mosaic. She's not, but I'd like to think she understands more than most kids with Downs.I think she's perfect either way! More likely it would have been '...enquired of an elderly man...'. Traditionally, 'enquire' simply meant “ask,” while 'inquire' was used for formal investigations. In the UK, the two words are used interchangeably, although inquire is still the more commonly used word for formal or official investigation

We’ve all been told that “practice makes perfect” when working on acquiring a new skill, but sometimes, too much practice, or at least too much of the same practice, loses its impact. Our brains crave novelty, and when we are presented with new ideas and experiences, they release dopamine. These feel good hormones are exactly what we need to gain motivation to learn and retain information, and once we actually do learn something new, we get to experience a nice, fuzzy rewarding feeling. So don’t be scared to mix up exactly how you like to learn!

I am mostly angry that some cruel person separated twins at birth. Happens often enough for a lot of twon studies on the subject. With the long queue of people waiting to adopt, infant twins could easily stay together.

Her story of survival is absolutely amazing! Sadly, she may not have been the only one to initially survive. Apparently, there was some evidence that a couple of other people did survive the fall, but because they weren't found in time, and because they were more injured, they weren't able to walk out like she did.

I heard this story on a documentary on the radio. Her will to survive was huge but one of the reasons she was able to do it was because her father was a zoologist and her mother a scientist/ornithologist from whom she had learned all about rain forest life. She was in a unique position to survive. That said she still had to endure a lot and her survival was miraculous. Someone without her background would almost certainly have died.

As someone who is very familiar with the cruelty of this disease, the only thing remotely 'good' about it is that it is a quick-moving dementia. Sufferers (and their families) do not linger for years like many Alzheimer's patients do.

I really despise saying"took his own life" . People die by suicide. It is not an act that a person of sound mind commits. Saying that someone who passes this way took their own lives places the blame solely on them, not the mental or physical disease that has taken over rational thought.

    María Hermida
    Community Member
2 years ago Created by potrace 1.15, written by Peter Selinger 2001-2017

Why do you assume it was not a rational decision? Is it more rational to just sit down and wait while your brain melts and you forget who you are, while you pee and poo on a nappy and are fed through a tube in your nose? I'd say the irrational thought is to "hope", or to think "life is precious" when you are facing that inexorable destiny. Theres no blame. His life was his, and he didn't want to suffer. There's no decision more sound-minded than that.

No one ever does something for someone else for no reason, and you explained it right there - because it makes you feel human. There's a very valid philosophical argument that everything we do is selfish, if for no other reason than to make ourselves feel good about it.

Yes to freak accident but I'm left wondering about what 9mm bullet he used. I would not expect a 9 to have enough energy to 1. ricochet, 2. deflect off a fence, 3. go through the metal wall of a mobile home and 4 still have enough energy to go through the chair and hit MIL I'm guessing the energy was largely depleted by the time it hit MIL but I'm still surprised it made it that far.

Right. I get that life is precious and all, but what is their quality of life? Will they have normal relationships and families of their own? They might not be so happy their dad is so strong. It’s got to be a lot of pressure to do or be something amazing when your family worked so hard to keep you in the world.

Nu, I wonder that too. It’s not that life isn’t valuable, everyone deserves a chance at life. So in this case, I’d say they should live because they’re already humans at that point. People should just stop reproducing a little, and cut down the raise in population by stopping it from the beginning.

I cried when I turned 16, worried about the same thing. I’m 45 now - the world will always feel a bit overwhelming at first but just put one foot in front of the other, relax into the challenges, love the wins, learn from the losses. Work hard but always make you and the people you love number one. You’re going to do great. :-)

These people were not struggling. Their mortgage must have been substantial and there are cheaper options. Internet says "retirees can expect to pay anywhere from $1,500 - $3,000 per month". That's per person so $3-6K / month. That's a hella lot more than the cost of my mortgage including property tax, insurance, utilities and food. And a cruise ship won't give me 5 acres. I wish them the best but don't make it sound like a living on a cruise ship is cheaper than living anywhere in the USA. (also my state is not the cheapest)

They sold their house and quit their jobs and hopped on the first cruise. She had said at the time it would cost them each $43 a day but it would take work to find the right cruises. Also they would have to stay on land occasionally. This year one of the cruise lines was offering a 3 year tour for $30,000 a year.

I think I've used the poor boy version. Does anyone remember those jacuzzi things that clamped to the side of your bathtub? Motor half / electricity outside the tub. Impeller (shrouded( in the water side blew a jet of water and air bubbles out. Nothing like a real hot tub but felt kind of nice. I think that was in the 80s we had one of those. A BOSS move was add bubble bath and water/air stream dialed it up to 11 for you. LOTS of bubbles.

The same principle is used in SCBAs in the military. Or at least used to be. A self contained breathing apparatus is sort of like a gas mask except the in/ out goes to / from a canister on your chest that is the chemical part. You pull a pin to ignite and the moisture / CO2 from your breath keeps it going. Can also be lit just by breathing but it takes a bit longer. I've worn them a few times for drills. They get pretty hot so when you take them out they get soaked in water. that's because usually when you take them out there are still some unused chemicals. Submarines have them too in a bigger canister thing as a back up oxygen supply.

They were also used on board the Russian sub Kursk to keep survivors alive after the disaster. Problem with it is that it become explosive when in contact with water, which is what happened when one landed into the water and it killed off the rest of the crew.

I think this is more due to the fact it didn't used to get diagnosed. Similar idea to dyslexia. They existed but kids with issues like that just got labeled as being dumb / re...tarded / or just bad attitude. And of course you were also bad if you were left handed.

For a while it was called "childhood schizophrenia". Hans Asperger and Leo Kanner discovered it mostly independently at about the same time, and both called it autism (mostly, Asperger called it "autischen psychopathy" and Kanner called it "early infantile autism"). The whole story is detailed at length in Steve Silberman's book Neurotribes (highly recommend).

In my culture people with autism or similar challenges were just described by family as "different" or "a little special" and were helped by the community to fit in, in some functional way. They weren't expected to be like everyone else, and there seems to have been a lot of tolerance. Somehow now systemizing and defining everyone else seems to lead to a lot of bigotry. (But who knows what it was really like, I didn't experience it myself, after all.)

We had a couple of children in my family, that in hindsight were autistic. My aunt referred to them as special, and so do the rest of us. They function in the family, the same way, the rest of us children did to the best of their ability.

Yes, everyone is joking. I don't know anyone who would be OK with someone breaking in to their house. Even if it was just to clean. That's not cool - and it's a crime. Now if she didn't leave a bill and was doing it for free I might feel differently. ;) Yes, I'm kidding too.

Sixty or more years ago, the term 'professional students' was used to describe students who stayed in school for many years rather than embarking on careers. Perhaps that was unfair; if someone has such a thirst for knowledge as to forego a career in order to keep learning, that is their choice and deserves respect.

No, believe it or not. lol That movie was based off a serial killer in CA and the PD trying to convince a woman that the boy returned to her was, in fact, her son despite her telling them he was not her child. It’s now believed her son was one of victims of the child killer in CA. 😔

But his real mother came forward and said that the boy was her missing son. She couldn't afford a lawyer to fight the Dunbars for custody and the courts found in favour of the Dunbars. Throughout the rest of her life the boys real mother was adamant he was her son and no one would listen to her. Seeing as the real Bobby Dunbar had only been missing for 8 months, it's hard to believe the real Dunbars didn't know that it wasn't Bobby. They were perhaps in denial and just so desperate to believe that their son had been found that they essentially stole someone else's son.

Maybe this has been said...there are alot of comments here. Bobby Dunbar is not the same as Walter Collins, whom the Changeling movie was based on. The family who "lost and recovered" Bobby were absolutely convinced he was their son. Walter Collins mother fought the police force and was adamant this was not her son.

I know some people who are fairly famous (as in get stopped in the street regularly etc) but they gained fame in their 30's so had a 'normal life' and often say how happy they knew what normal life was like and how they can see how those who are famous from a young age can go off the rails and struggle. Seeing how they are treated when I have been out in public with them, makes me shocked- the nasty rumours (that have included me at one time where I was supposedly having an affair with one of them when I was in a different country in hospital fighting for my life!) I would struggle so much to live a life like that. Especially someone as famous of MJ and famous for as long as he can remember

Yeah, being in the public eye is just… it tests human endurance, a lot. You have to withstand their nasty comments about you, their whispering on the media, the rumors they spread that YOU know is not true, but hey, the rumor is about you, so who’s going to believe you? He was a wonderful gift, no one is going to be like him ever again, and just like humans do: we take our gifts and abuse them, misuse them, squeeze out everything we want from them and toss the rest away, wasting. Wasting. Wasting!!! Have you people SEEN the artist biographies before or after they die?? None of the greats miss out on a living hell at some point in their careers. Why? Because they pop out and we’re like, “woah, so cool!” And we lift them up to a mountain but then… they stop being new, and shiny. We start rocking the mountain, making them feel unsafe on the top- they either fall to the abyss, regarded as trash, or they cling to the mountain and yell at us, or they find another mountain to be on.

One round trip / week = 104 x 97 years and 8 weeks = 10,00. Two round trips a year, 49 years and 4 weeks to reach 10,000. Commuting to work by plane, 5 days a week, 10 round trips per week, 19 years and 12 weeks = 10,000. One round trip per day, for almost 14 years = 10,000. Going to the toilet, about 4 times/day for 7 years = 10,220. i have used the toilet about 92,000 times.

I feel sorry for him. One of my best friend's grandsons has size 16 feet. They have a difficult time finding shoes for him. And 16 is large but it is not THAT far past "normal" sizes so it is still around sometimes if you look / special order. 23 must be quite difficult to find.

Feeling full, known as satiation, is a purely brain-induced reaction to eating, nothing to do with the stomach being full or relaxed. Eating sweet treats satisfies a different urge for nice things, not simply the feeling of hunger.

I feel that’s pretty crappy parenting you don’t have to leave the whole fortune to him but you should leave him enough to be comfortable and set out on his own. He’s used to a certain lifestyle don’t be in a hole just to prove a point I’m disappointed in Jackie Chan right now.

If I had that kind of money my kids would inherit some money when they were younger. The rest would be hidden in trusts until they were 45-50 yrs old then "surprise" it's time to retire.

You'd think Chan would consider giving Jaycee at least a generous inheritance, if not all this fortune. The children of wealthy people are raised differently than most of us and it's unrealistic to think they can suddenly adapt to an entirely different demographic. If Chan wanted his son to function in an ordinary life, he should have raised him accordingly.

I think that's good parenting, TBH! While my parents aren't wealthy like that, I've never assumed that I would inherit their money! They worked hard for their money and have the right to choose how to spend it, even after death!

It was told, but... I don´t know any parent who totally excluded own child from their will. May be, give them not all, but a part to beginning something. In my country are heirs of lav, who predeceased heirs from wil. The owner must especially outcast own heirs for a hard misbehave. Sorry for my bad English, I am an old lady and I learn by those writings. Thank you for your patience.

In Korea there are businesses that perform fake funerals, you write letters to loved ones, you lay in a coffin and all other kinds of options. So that you experience what end of life is like and maybe change your way of looking at living. They had it as part of a twist in a Korean Drama and I looked it up because I was intrigued to know if it was really a thing, and it is.

Okay that's actually sad. I'm sorry that some people feel the urge to chase beauty standards that get rid of their ethnic features. Asian eyes are beautiful, non-white skins are beautiful.

I was an American English teacher in South Korea. A group of us ex-pat teachers had to get our pictures taken for identification cards. When one of my colleagues who had a generous sprinkle of beautiful freckles spread across her face had her picture taken, the photography studio photoshopped ALL of her freckles off of her face! Very sad but hilarious at the same time. They had very different beauty standards over there in 2009. Maybe they've changed by now. I don't know.

I don't understand those people who build houses like that. And I'm grateful to live in a country were you have to get a building permit based on your plans that you won't get if the way you want to build has negative impact on the use of another person's home.

Is this really a good example of a 'spite house'? Even if the house in front kept to one storey, it would still block the view of the house behind. Too bad the owners of the larger house didn't or couldn't buy the property the smaller house occupied. Anything built there would be a problem.

It does look nice but it is a push to call that lawn and that tree/shrub overgrowing the walkwa - "manicured". Perhaps "reasonably maintained". For comparison - about 1/4 mile down the road from me is a telephone switching station. Basically a small square building maybe 10 x 10, surrounded by a chain link fence. When I purchased my house in 2003 I saw it and thought - wow, it really looks sad. I bet they plan to paint it soon. NOPE. 2023 and looks even worse. The whole outside is basically down to bare wood. So go you Toronto Hydro

This seems more like a thought exercise than a practical replacement for trees. Algae farming in huge tanks has practical uses. A dirty "fish tank" on a sidewalk that requires electricity is a net negative impact on the environment.

I wish I made that much per week. --- "At the beginning of Friends, the stars were paid $22,500 per episode, which increased to $1 million for the final two seasons. The popular sitcom "Friends" ran for ten seasons from 1994 to 2004 and has been in syndication ever since."

That's because the way they do test screenings is ridiculous. You don't get to know what kind of movies you get to watch beforehand and often the test audience is not even remotely close to the target audience. They should at least tell the genre. If you have an audience of action and horror fans even the best voted rom com will bomb.

    Ken Beattie
    Community Member
2 years ago Created by potrace 1.15, written by Peter Selinger 2001-2017

They should be able to account for that in the questionnaires though. For example: if the film is a rom com, you include questions like "do you like rom coms" and "what is your favourite movie genre". Then you can weight the responses accordingly.

Nope, not on. Like the photo. You should always have water in the microwave since that's what it heats. If you have an oily dry food (like fried corn tortillas) without water, the microwave can arc and start a fire. Keep a wet wadded paper towel in there. Or a cup of water.

Well, the thymus couldn't even teach them not to kill themselves. Maybe if we elect a new thymus, such as Chuck "The Thymus" Norris, we would never get cancer.

That description. Now I'm picturing a marine sergeant thymus yelling at recruit cells.

This makes me think of an army or military. Quite sad. How stupid are they to kill themselves after surviving that much?! Doesn’t that mean we end up with none?!

Also with peeing. 'Micturition (or post-micturition) syncope is fainting while urinating or immediately after urinating. This is likely due to a severe drop in blood pressure' (Mayo clinic).

Kind of. Vasovagal syncope. It's from pressure on the vagus nerve cluster, for example if constipated and having bowel movement, causing pressure through the bowels onto the nerves. https://www.verywellhealth.com/vasovagal-reflex-1945072

    Why? Were the sandwiches bad?

The sandwiches were hit or miss, but the parent company then decided to demand their franchisees buy their supplies exclusively from the company while charging exorbitant fees for said supplies. Ultimately it became completely impossible to run a Quiznos and make a profit without pricing yourself right out of competition. But the parent company was making money so the execs didn't see a problem... Until it became a problem.

154 now in 2023. There is a youtube video about it if interested. In a nutshell -- expanded to quickly + price gouged their franchise owners on the supplies they were forced to purchase through them + covid. It has changed hands (twice I think) but the future isn't bright. It's a shame - I prefer them to subway.

To save you a Google search: the plane took off on a 9,000-mile flight from Dubai to Auckland. Turned back halfway there because Auckland Airport was closed due to severe flooding.

Women give to men painted hardboiled eggs - pysanki in Poland, kraslice in Czechia and Moravia, it is one very old folklore, for health and good. The willow rod artistically pleated is called pomlazka (enyounger). This tradition is probably in all slavic nations from pagan history. ain some countries it changes at noon and women hunts and whip men. All it is only symbolic, not serious, and great fun.

When you want to have wet t-shirt contests but want to seem classier than Florida spring break. Hey lady, let us whip you and pour water on you and then you will buy us booze. It will make you make you prettier, I swear.

We have the same in Poland. "wet Monday". But a little evolved from tradition and it's everyone on everyone. Not just woman by men.

They do something similar in Hungary. The men tell the women a poem and then spray her with perfume/splash her with water. Then she has to give him chocolate
