It is common knowledge – a scientific fact, if you will – that every pet resembles their owner. And I am not talking only in character but in looks as well. No one knows how it happens, but life shows time and time again that even if your new friend looked nothing like you when you first brought it home, very soon you two will be indistinguishable.
Whether it is dogs that look like their owners or people who look like their dogs, it is always fun to spot the resemblance. But it is not only dogs and cats who are subject to this curious phenomenon. As a proud pet owner, I can tell you that it holds true for virtually any animal you live with. Both my guinea pig and I have ginger hair. We are also both addicted to candy, though in his case, the role of candy is played by cucumber peels.

I would kill to have hair like both of them! (I got the hair from my mother’s side of the family; baby fine. There are a lot of strands, but they’re so fine they don’t look like a lot of hair. If they were normal thickness, I would have a big head of hair. But I don’t, unfortunately.)

I went to a dog show and so many handlers looked like their dogs. A guy with dreadlocks had a puli. I watched a class of bulldogs and every handler was stocky. The one person I knew was a blonde-haired woman who raised golden retrievers. When I told two co-workers, they asked me to guess their dogs. Based on their appearance I guessed Schnauzer and Labrador. They were shocked and told me I was right. I resemble my dog too.

It's fun to guess Best in Show correctly. For me, a necessary criterion includes the physical appearance of the deciding judge.
