Halloween has sadly passed and we're left with the same crappy 2020 again. However, if you can't let go of the festive vibes just yet, this post should help you avoid the grim reality for a couple more minutes.
Few of us would enjoy being the center of attention in a group, let alone for long periods of time. I mean, imagine attending a work meeting in a bright carrot costume. Or sitting through your classes in a chicken suit...
That's exactly what happened to these people. Either because they had false expectations or were misled, some folks took Halloween really seriously expecting others would do too, but ended up being the only ones around wearing a costume. But hey, at least all that effort they put into their looks didn't go unnoticed.
Bored Panda compiled a list of photos to commemorate these (un)fortunate moments, so you know what to do: continue scrolling, enjoy the images and upvote your favorites. Oh, and if you've been in a similar situation, tell us in the comments.

Being The Only One In Congress To Wear A Costume For Halloween...
Our fear of standing out might have something to do with our knowledge of the tall poppy syndrome. It's a term that describes hating people who we think are "too big for their boots," who flaunt their success, and who "need to be brought down." Coined as a Roman military term, a tall poppy is someone who stands above the crowd.
Wanting to see accomplished people fail can result from a sense of inadequacy on an individual scale. "People like to see tall poppies fall if they deserve to fall, or if the observer has low self-esteem," Norman Feather, a psychology professor at Flinders University in Australia who has researched the topic extensively, said. "That's where a bit of envy or resentment enters in."
My Buddy Was Told He Could Wear A Costume...
The consequence of the tall poppy syndrome is that it can make people of drawing attention to themselves. We learn — more implicitly than explicitly — that standing out from others can put us at risk of questioning, criticism, rejection, and even ostracism.
But I argue that these cases are something different. One, it's Halloween. Two, a lot of the people in the pictures have been led to believe others would also wear costumes, and three, it's Halloween. Why should anyone hate on someone celebrating Halloween?!
Papa_Skittles, one of the people featured in the list, can back me up on this one. He said he likes Halloween because it's the one day of the year when it's acceptable to wear whatever you want. So naturally, Papa_Skittles decided to wear a costume this year as well. "It wasn't Halloween but it was the last day of the workweek (Thursday) and it was the day the workgroup 'agreed' to dress up as smurfs while our boss would dress up as Gargamel," Papa_skittles told Bored Panda.
My VP Of Purchasing Sitting In A Meeting Right Now Listening Intently To Our President. He's The Only Person In Costume
"I was expecting others to dress up [too] but no one else did," he said laughing. "My [Smurfette] costume is the Goodwill special of a flower dress turned inside out, a blue tracksuit with a clean mop head from the custodial closet (Walmart ran out of blonde wigs). I had to improvise that one."
At first, the man was a little confused. "When the third guy showed up, however, I realized it was a prank," Papa_skittles said. "But I decided to keep it going. Too many people these days don't know how to laugh at themselves. I could have gotten upset or even angry but what would that have accomplished? I also got to see a lot of other people laugh from different departments as a blue Smurfette was walking up to them. People need a hearty laugh every now and then. It's good for you."

What is it with adults not dressing up and enjoying a holiday? Just because you reach a certain chronological point in an existence that's already too brief , it doesn't mean you should stop enjoying what makes you happy.
What if dressing up in a silly costume isn't one of the things that make you happy?
Load More Replies...Ok, I get that people don't dress up at Halloween. But who goes to a Halloween PARTY and not dress up? That's just rude.
The first year at the company and everyone gushed about the annual Halloween party. Everyone dressed up and I won with my "Hell's Angel" costume (Docs, leather pants, black tee, my brothers leather Harley vest, black feathered wings & halo). The next year I went all out on my pirate costume: new wig, $12 for the hat and another $36 in feathers, $90 black leather boots, a $70 imitation powder pistol - no one was in costume that year (I won by default) but man was I bummed. I looked amazing and couldn't believe no one bothered to tell me we weren't doing a party that year.
On Thursday I decided to kinda dress up at school for Halloween, since we didn’t have school on Friday, and I dressed as this character named Denki Kaminari... I was the only one who dressed up and I got a lot of stares

Halloween was on a Saturday this year. I could see the retail businesses being open, but not so many offices. Unless these pictures are from previous years?
business's all dressed up on Friday here in Alaska!
Load More Replies...My daughter was in preschool and they sent a letter home inviting any parents to come, who could help with the Halloween party games and distribution of treats. I mistook to mean EVERYONE would be wearing a costume. Nope. To make matters worse I’d bought a black witch’s hat with purple trim but it was an Indian summer and I had no a/c in my car. My makeup had run together by the time we arrived and Subsequently I resembled the Wicked Witch of the West among what I now refer to the fuddyduddy bunch of boring and sterile other volunteer parents. I laughed the entire time, especially once my daughters friends showed an allegiance to my obvious bravery against the norm. My motto is “Laugh…A LOT…why?…because I f*****g can!” Not long ago I didn’t believe I ever would again. Happiness is an individuals perception and choice, make it yours too.
Love how the situations look even more ridiculous because the costumes are like full-body shark and banana costumes
I worked in an office with about 50 people and one of the account executives came dressed as a very realistic pirate. The CEO wasn't too pleased. He's had this phobia ever since he fell off the boat on the Pirates of the Caribbean at Disneyland
My Halloween costume is pjs and chip crumbs all over my mouth with eyeball sags.
It might seem unfair at first that you dressed up and nobody else did, but that just means all the more fun for you!
Every year i show up to school in my full-on plague doctor outfit for Halloween. And every year im just about the only one.
We arent even allowed to dress up as anything other than storybook characters at my school so everyone else picked the grinch or the cat in the hat I went as Calvin, complete with his lil Hobbes buddy
This was me last year LOL I asked folks at work if anyone dresses up (Fire fighter training institute) they said yeah.. OK so I wore a Ghost costume (I love Halloween and would have dressed up anyway) Got a few odd look needless to say LOL but I didn't care! I LOVE Halloween... this year sucked because no TOT which I wear a costume to hand out candy and what not.
This was almost me, but I figured it wouldn't matter since my largest class has only three kids.
