Ominous positivity, scientifically speaking, is a more threatening and less toxic form of uplifting than, "Hey, man, just like be positive, man". Have a good day is not a wish, but a demand in ominous positivity communities.

One of them is this Facebook page collecting memes and artwork that makes good times seem inescapable. The page has over 1.5K memes, over 600K followers, and is rated a perfect 5 out of 5 score, which is almost as good as 5/7, if you get the reference.

What is toxic positivity? Well, it is unhelpful positive phrases that don't solve any problem or just create more of them, it makes the comforter feel better, rather than the person in need of help.

It is well represented by FilmCow's 2008 animation Charlie The Unicorn before the term became mainstream. Without giving away too much plot: two hippie unicorns annoy grumpy unicorn Charlie with their toxic positivity and laid-backness to give in and go on adventures with them, causing him trouble. It can be viewed as a commentary on the worst humanity has to offer, thus, isn't for a sensitive audience, it's very scary.

Why ominous positivity is better? First of all, it is not taken seriously and is more of a funny meme rather than self-help grifting material. It does not deny the existence of one's problems, but try to convince people that there is hope for a positive outcome or that that's the only possible outcome. The latter would be a bit problematic if taken out of meme context.

These memes often involve mythological themes which further distances viewers from taking them too seriously. However, the good faith of the meme creators is unmistakable. These memes are often directly addressing the reader, which makes them feel personal. On top of that, it lets readers know there are people with a genuine love for humanity who are rooting for strangers' wellbeing.

This page posts and credits a lot of artwork, like short comics and posters giving these artists a chance to grow their follower base. One of the popular styles there is trippy posters with swearing and threats of positivity contrasted with cutesy plush toys.

Whenever I tell someone anything even slightly affectionate i tell them "take it and like it" and they usually don't have a response.
