Didn't Need To See This
Bored Panda got in touch with Frank T. McAndrew, Ph.D., a psychologist, professor, and essayist to learn more about why certain things fascinate and scare us at the same time. Seeing that it was just Halloween, we were curious to discover if we were more inclined to be frightened at certain times of the year.
“At Halloween, we are continually reminded by the decorations on houses and in stores as well as by the movies that are featured to think about spooky things. So yes, at this time of year the morbid and the creepy is in our thoughts more than at other times of year,” he shared with Bored Panda

Some people actively enjoy seeking out the morbid and spooky and seem to like the emotions associated with it, so we wanted to know what is the psychology behind that. “We are drawn to things that scare us (as long as we know they are not "real") because we can learn from them,” Frank T. McAndrew shared.

“We can mentally rehearse strategies for dealing with possible future encounters with terrifying people and places, and we also learn some things about ourselves. What scares us the most? What are we prepared to deal with and what will simply be too much for us?” In a sense, just clicking on this article could have been your way of answering these questions.

Bored Panda also got in touch with Coltan Scrivner, a behavioral scientist and expert on the morbid. We asked if Halloween in particular can cause some people to be more interested in this content. "People feel like it's less taboo or weird to be interested in creepy things around Halloween, so you see a lot more people acting on that interest around this time of year."

A Medieval-Era Painting Of King Richard II Of England And Isabella On Their Wedding Day. She Was Six - He Was 29
Wikipedia: Although their union was an arranged political marriage, and in spite of the age difference, Isabella and Richard developed a mutually respectful relationship. Due to the age of Isabella (the Canonical law for sexual consummation being twelve), the marriage was never sexually consummated. However, Isabella and Richard enjoyed a good platonic relationship, which has been compared to that between a father and his adopted daughter or between a niece and a doting uncle, and he was noted to have treated her not as a wife but rather as the daughter he and his first wife Anne never had. The king regularly visited her in Windsor, where he treated her with respect and entertained her and her ladies-in-waiting with humorous conversation, and pampered her with gifts and toys. Isabella reportedly enjoyed and looked forward to these visits

At the same time, we also wanted to know why some folks are so attracted to the morbid and seek it out. "Some people seek out experiences that make them feel scared because they enjoy the adrenaline rush," he shared with Bored Panda.

"Others enjoy the feeling of overcoming their fears when they experience safe instances of fear, like a horror movie or haunted house attraction. Some people even enjoy scary experiences because those experiences actually help them overcome the anxiety they may be facing." You can find more of Coltan Scrivner's work on his blog.

Bathroom Over An Abandoned 15 Story Lift Shaft
I've seen this picture before and every time it makes me not want to go to the bathroom for several hours. Ironically, any time we are up several stories, this is the reality of what is happening, even though we can't see it. However, I just don't feel the need to know about it.
A Puppy Born With One Eye, 2 Tongues And No Nose
Not as doctor or scientist; but given the severity of the deformity, I'm almost 100% certain that the brain wasn't developed enough for this poor guy to have awareness of pretty much ANYTHING.
Load More Replies...From the source: "it's a condition which can also occur in humans called holoprosencephaly. It basically means that the brain doesn’t properly split into two hemispheres, also affecting surrounding tissues. It is not compatible with life, and the puppy will have died minutes after birth, unlikely to have suffered"
one more little fluffy angel... thank you for the information.
Load More Replies...Inbreeding could be the main issue, sadly. Has anyone ever seen pictures of white tigers? Not a fraction as bad as this poor puppy, but still horrifying :( deformed-w...5a64a4.jpg
Perfect for casting in the next monsters inc movie. So cute. So sad. Just wanna cuddle him :(
Load More Replies...I'm sorry little one. We acknowledge you. We love you. You matter. In my mind I see you as an adorable companion to the 1 eyed 1 horned flying purple people eater.
We had a rottweiler born with it's umbilical cord on it's forehead. My stepmom was a vet tech and she let me assist with the birth. I remember it lived for a few hours but then passed away. It was fully formed, just like this pup, just with the cord in the wrong place. Nature is scary
THIS is what happens with the overbreeding in the US. Not often of course, but we've so overbred dogs that we've actually harmed them. For example, Bull dog breeds can no longer deliver their pups naturally because breeders have bred them so their heads are too big to pass through a mother dog's pelvis. Chihuahuas shake because they've been bred smaller and smaller and there's pressure on their brains. It's why dogs like German Shepherds and Golden Retrievers have so many genetic hip issues among others. Overbreeding. Mixed breeds are the healthiest. Please adopt one of the sweeties waiting in a shelter or foster home. Don't pay the thousands of dollars that breeders want for dogs that they've bred and bred so many litters the Mom's are almost dead. Often they invite you to their "homes" but those dogs are just for show. In reality they have a huge breeding business set up in some barn miles away.
poor baby. i hate to say it but i hope it was stillborn and never knew pain
This is so upsetting. Honestly i hope they put him down although i cant believe he survived long like that. Poor pup
With the right owner they could have a wonderful life, even a movie career. Wonder what happened to them
Okay, so why did they let this poor creature live for this long? Just so they could take pictures??
I think this is taxedermied, i could be wronf tho
