57 Times People Had No Idea What They Were Looking At, But The Internet Knew What It Was Right Away
The world is a big place, and sometimes you don't have all the answers to all the random questions. The Internet does, though. There's even a subreddit called What Is This Thing? where people post photos when they have no clue what they're looking at, and others try to identify these interesting things. Can you believe it? A place on the Internet where you can ask and not be afraid of getting ridiculed for your ignorance and asking questions? Unbelievable, I know. That's why Bored Panda has compiled a list of some of the most random stuff and interesting facts found on that page, and you will surely learn a thing or two. From an unorthodox public bathroom door design to a hole in the sky, these cool photos and the explanations behind these random things are real eye-openers. Scroll down to enjoy the images and upvote your favorites!

The moth must have a very fat body when the scent glands are not extended !
If I were a female creatonotos gangis moth, there is no way I'd be attracted to that!
His "scent glands" are way bigger than he is! Where do they go when they aren't out??
OMG! This is a thing of nightmares. Brave female to be attracted to that!!
i am usually fascinated by insects and such, but this thing. no. :D
This is seriously f*****g gross-looking and I hope to never come across one of these babies in my life. Ever.

Once a large pyrite discovery was made. Few people and their leader (can't remember his name) found something that was old, shiny and... well, it was obviously gold. They brought tones of the thing back to Europe just to discover it was a common pyrite. Everyone laughed at the poor men. They remained "fools" in other people's eyes for the rest of their days. Since then, the pyrite came to be known as the "Fool's gold".

Looks like some wooly aphids. Woolly aphids are sucking insects that live on plant fluids and produce a filamentous waxy white covering which resembles cotton or wool. The adults are winged and move to new locations where they lay egg masses. The nymphs often form large cottony masses on twigs, for protection from predators.

Load More Replies...Me too, girl. Me too. (Sorry for presuming your gender).
Load More Replies...It's a very interesting and useful list, for it probably gave some pandas answers to questions they had about different peculiar things they once saw. For instance, I've always wondered about the purpose of those dots on the buses's windows. And now I know it!
I went through all 6 pages of these submitted 'finds' and am totally gobsmacked by the variety of life and living creatures, oddball products and other weird stuff people out there know about. Great stuff!!!
A lot of fun trying to guess what they could possibly be. I too would have love to see more of them. I also love a lot of smart a*s answers. Good for a chuckle or two. :)
I commented something here, asking about a tooth but i cant find the comment anymore.
This was absolutely amazing. I had no clue what most things were and they were very interesting.
great collection of things we would never have been able to identify but now we know, more please.
#13 very cool. Living in the US, I am a little envious of Europeans who have such cool architectural finds crop up. But it must be a pain to municipalities to plan a road, building, or other infrastructure and start digging and find some antiquity and then have to stop everything to have the archeologists come and have a look and then dig up and relocate the find. Still really cool. We still occasionally unearth pottery from some of the 1st colonies or tribes and dinosaur fossils but nothing as cool as digging down and finding an intricate mosaic tile floor that someone laid down piece by piece cutting each piece of stone by hand.
Every single time i get over a 100 like they wont let me comment anymore
I always love Bored Panda but this entry was especially interesting...hope the answers are fact not fiction.

This was the first educational list I've ever seen on one of these sites. More of these. was really interesting.
