Sofie Hagen, a Danish-born and UK-based comedian has ignited heated discussions after publicly accusing Cancer Research UK of ‘fat-shaming.’ The organization claims it doesn’t want to insult anyone, but hopes to raise awareness of the link between cancer and obesity. Hagen, however, says their campaign is “incredibly damaging.”

You see, according to Cancer Research UK, obesity “is the biggest cause of cancer in the UK, after smoking.” This statement came after a recent report by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), saying there is now strong evidence linking bodyweight issues to 13 types of cancer. What’s more alarming, in a time when Millennials are set to be the fattest generation of Britons, only 15% of British people are aware of the link between obesity and cancer.

“Right, is anyone currently working on getting this piece of sh*t CancerResearchUK advert removed from everywhere?” Hagen began her Twitter rant. “Is there something I can sign? How the fuc*ing fu*k is this okay?” Cancer Research UK even wrote a personal reply to the angry lady, but it wasn’t enough. She continued fighting for it to be taken down. “Society viewing fatness as a negative thing is a thing that kills more than the cancer,” she wrote.

Nothing wrong with the ad. It is a proven risk factor for cancer; along with smoking, alcohol consumption, physical inactivity and poor diet. You don't see smokers, alcohol drinkers or fast food eaters complaining that they are being shamed for their lifestyle choices. They just accept that their lifestyle habits are unhealthy and may be increasing the risk of cancer. She should do the same. Be obese and proud if you want, just don't be a special snowflake and turn yourself into a victim.

I've been fat and I've been thin. Thinner looks better, feels better and is healthier. Sorry fat people, but I get offended if people call me thin and keep commenting on my weight. And basically, being really fat just looks bad, on everyone. What does not offend me, is an organisation stating facts about health risks. Get over yourself.

Did she seriously say that fat shaming is more damaging than cancer? I can't wait to see the statistics on that one. You know, something along the lines of "N thousand of people died from fat shaming this year which is M thousand more than from cancer"...because otherwise it really doesn't sound very convincing to me.

"JFK: Literally NOBODY knows what causes any cancer" That's shocking, if only there was an organisation that was set up to "Research" "Cancer" it would be even more awesome if they were based in the "UK" were I'm from, then following their research they could advise us regular Joe's that know literally nothing about what causes cancer how best to avoid getting it.

Well, what can you say? A fat woman who is offended when scientists point out that obesity is dangerous for health? It's no different from a rotten-teeth-owner (who always craves for candy and never brush her teeth properly after that) that complains about the fact offered by the dentist which said "over consumption of candy and no brushing after it is dangerous for your tooth".

Fat shaming is real and serious thing, but that doesn’t make being overweight healthy. No one should be made fun of or punished for their weight, whether they are underweight or over. But these are actual doctors, and your weight IS relevant to them, and they understand how obesity works. It’s silly to ignore facts just because you don’t like the way it is.

Well, many diets actually are unhealthy because they favor some sort of food type over the other, or favor unhealthy habits, or dangerously low calorie intake. It's not the worst thing you can do to your body, but if you do it constantly, it can actually be just as damaging as smoking. A healthy balanced lifestyle (and thus loosing weight) is what every doctor would probably recommend, unless you have health related dietary restrictions.

As an obese woman who has had uterine cancer and has Type 2 diabetes, I can tell you this: fat cells produce estrogen. Too much estrogen sends your uterus into overdrive, which causes replication errors on the cellular level, which *is* cancer. And there is a strong correlational link between being obese and having insulin resistance, the essence of what Type 2 diabetes is. And so many people have reversed their insulin resistance by losing weight, which points strongly to causation. Yes, it could be that the obesity itself is yet another symptom of an underlying metabolic syndrome, harmless in and of itself but associated with deeper problems. But if losing weight will get rid of the other deeper problems, then why not try. In the meantime, though, we have to be careful to not stereotype obese people as lazy or having poor self-control. But merely calling us obese is not an insult. It's a fact. I will never have children because of my cancer. If I can save one person from that I will.

Fat-shaming against cancer? Bring it. Obesity IS an illness. It's a MEDICAL CONDITION. I am not referring to BIG-BONED here, (tall and squarely-set people, there is a huge difference.) I am referring to an adult who was 55Kg during their teens and 90kg during the mid-life, who are NOT at 7% Body-fat, preparing for a bodybuilding contest.

so, don't encourage it, don't disparage it, don't ignore it, highlight it (but don't single it out). you can see why there is confusion. 'freedom of speech for some'. surely just 'living as healthily as possible' is the best advice? but how do you give advice in a 'don't tell me what to do' world? with difficulty it would appear.

Deciding you are offended by something that is trying to save your life is ridiculous. If you are overweight and completely happy with it, that is brilliant, but most people aren't happy with it (and I can say that from solid experience) and it's time to start realising that being overweight DOES lead to heart attacks, diabetes and now possibly cancer, so it's not SHAMING and HATING on you for being overweight, it's literally trying to help you. Some people think big is beautiful, some don't, whatever you're into, but only the blindly stupid people can fail to see that being fat DOES bring medical issues (again, speaking from experience) so you can't blame on Cancer Research UK (bless them for the amazing work they do) for trying to HELP!

ok first of all she's only doing this for publicity and honestly in that respect, shes won. So kudos. But you CANNOT seriously argue that being obese isn't harmful to your health. How about you stop getting so "hurt" by these statements and start eating right and exercising? Would that kill you? Let me answer that for you: no. In the contrary, would NOT doing any of these things kill you: yes. yes it would.

There are far more serious things to get offended about - medical facts are not among them. I have struggled with my weight my entire life and know damn well the adverse affects it has on my health. Being offended doesn't make you right. Pointing out that carrying excessive weigh is directly responsible - FACT - for many health issues - is not discriminating against overweight people. It is trying to educate and warn. And yes - I know how hard it is to lose weight. But I'm also not stupid and I know that it is down to me to do something about it. Doctors and scientists warning me about the various implications are not offending me. Get off your high and ill--informed horse, Sofie. Nobody is attacking you, or any other overweight person. Educating isn't attacking, you silly girl. Grow up.

It's one thing to accept your weight, it's a whole other thing to get offended by the fact that having a lot of fat isn't healthy. That's like a smoker getting mad about health warnings (like the last person on Twitter mentioned). It's not a means to offend someone, it's trying to educate the public about what is true.

On one hand, according to statistics, obesity is the second biggest cause for cancer. Then again, we all know that statistician are people who drown in lakes with the average depth of 4,72 inches. On the other hand, as an obese person myself, I find this lady's "happy stomach" photo incredibly disgusting. There are people who can't lose weight because of thyroid problems, whatnot. Holy Hell, when are we going to actually get past this idea that fat is beautiful and fat is healthy?? Yes, there is a certain percentage of fat that is healthy to have on your body to support organ function, etc., but OBESITY is not health and it is not beautiful. I have never looked at an obese person and thought "hey there are beautiful", maybe as an individual but not in physical appearance. Ischemia and ischemic heart disease are overwhelmingly caused by obesity. Ischemic heart disease is the number one cause of death by over 2 million per year (in 2015) above strokes. Now there is evidence that 13 cancers are may also be caused by obesity? To me this is a wake-up call, not some ignorant comedian's already shamed self's time to try to gain popularity. I am obese and I despise it, Its not a question of shaming, its a question of the more knowledge the better. If this campaign should make people not accept being obese, then where is the shame in this? People need to stop thinking their feelings are the responsibility of anyone else.

Luckily she survived, but had to surgically remove her breasts. "Fat is beautiful" sure, you can think that, that’s your aesthetic opinion. Uhhh.. seriously ? These doctors are trying to look out for you, not trying to shame you. I get that there has been a lot of fat-shaming in the media, and I'm not in ANY way saying that's okay. But the bottom line is that obesity IS extremely dangerous and unhealthy and it is in your best interest to work hard to lose that extra weight. It doesn't have anything to do with your level of attractiveness; it is simply about staying alive. Jesus Christ.

Anyone think the DIET our idiot governments are pushing on us MIGHT have more to do with both problems? We've had "Low Fat/High Carb" pushed on both of our countries for FIFTY YEARS, on the hypothesis that it will make us all healthier. Guess what IT DOES NOT WORK! For 50 years we've gotten fatter and sicker than ever before, to the point that we now have children with "ADULT ONSET DIABETES"! We should be eating like humans naturally ate for hundreds of years when obesity, diabetes, AND CANCER WAS UNCOMMON!

Except that overall caloric intake has MARKEDLY increased. THAT is why people are getting fatter. Eating bread won’t make you fat. Consuming more calories than you expend will whether you’re eating bread, pure sugar cane or nothing but vegetables. Also cancer rates are NOT increasing.

I don't see fat-shaming. The ad is blunt, but it is based on current medical research, not some newly enlightened groupie's interpretation of outdated data. Now if the ad had something like "if you look like this, then you're fat", yeah that's fat-shaming. Now if I can only recall what movie that line came from...

I've been smoking for nearly twenty years and a recent lung checkup turned out so good that the doctor didn't believe me I was a smoker. Am I bitching around about the fact that wherever I go I'm told smoking is bad and causes a trillion forms of cancer? No of course not. Because I'm aware of that. It's my choice. And I'm happy that I'm healthy despite this habit. But if I were to get sick I knew whom to blame. But just because I'm lucky and in good shape it doesn't mean I have to go on a rant about scientific evidence and be offended by every poster I see... She knows exactly that she's wrong and doing something very unhealthy to her body but simply can't admit it. Grow up, girl. You're fat and it's bad for you.

I agree that it is 100% okay to be heavy, but obesity SERIOUSLY causes cancer. It's because of our unhealthy intake that builds up fat, blocks cells from cleaning, and clogs our areas that need the most movement in order to stay healthy. This is a serious issue and all they are trying to do is to bring awareness to this fateful disease.

Why is it that human beings have such trouble with nuance? Yes Obesity is a health risk. No, no one should be shamed for their physical appearance. There IS a way to communicate this important information without shaming and alienating people. Think of the times in your life when you had the courage to change and grow. Someone supported you, showed you compassion. There is a big problem in our society. Obesity is just a symptom. We have to get better at helping one another. You don't have to sacrifice facts to do that. Just embrace the best parts of being human. We can be intelligent AND kind.

I've seen this sign a few times. More attention needs to be given to food we put in our bodies and what it can do to our health. Why are cigarettes covered in warnings and hard to attain when anyone can just buy junk food and soda without warnings on the packaging? Being obese is probably more dangerous than being a smoker in many cases, especially in the young. Double standards much?

Pandas I dont post many comments. you can check my history. I felt the anger and vitriol in the comments were truly disgraceful. Firstly - why this level of reaction to someone complaining that they felt offended by an advert. this is a comment we see again and again on the internet and only a few areas receive this abusive reaction, and being overweight is one. think to yourself why you feel you need to react so aggressively. Secondly. did anyone read into CancerResearch UKs information on this? I can break it down to 3 statments. 1. obese people die. 2 obese people get cancer. 3 we dont know how but obesity probably causes cancer and here is how i think it might happen. If they entered into research into this topic, they have not provided the data or a link to the data. It is the equivalent of 30% of all people hit by cars smoked - therefore smoking increases your chance to be hit by a car by 30%. read the research before you sign up to it. Thanks for reading. Be Nice to each other

The anger is because you can say "Hey man, smoking is bad for you and I wish you'd cut it out for your own sake and those who love you". You can say that all day long, but try substituting smoking for obesity and people lose it. People are just sick of being told they're awful people just because they point out biological facts that are in fat people's best interest to adhere to.

No one wants to be obese. So many people are this way due to severe health problems though. It is something beyond just "stop eating" school of thought. I feel this story can go two ways, Stating the obvious or agreeing with her that the ad is shaming fat people. For myself, I think just about everything we touch, breath or taste is loaded with harmful chemicals that can and do cause us cancer. We are living in an age when everything is loaded with dangerous chemicals esp. our food and the way we prepare it. So I wish she would be quiet about this silly little issue and concentrate more on the WHY and WHAT is in our food that is really causing cancer. These are things we really need to be protesting about but no one seems to really care.

Does the "link" between obesity show correlation or causality? As was pointed out in one of the tweets: in many , many types of cancer all we know is correlation, not causality. And If you cannot prove that obesity causes cancer, then whatever your good intentions, you need to dial your campaign down a notch, because the way it is now is not only harmful emotionally to many, many people, it's misleading.

I don't find the ad offensive to fat people - if you're obese, you should definitely know it's unhealthy. It might not change your eating-habits, but you should be aware. What I really really REALLY find offensive is that tabacco-industry is doing this ad. The people who for YEARS forged records and medical data to make people believe smoking isn't dangerous, or even make them think it's healthy! Why is TABACCO doing this? If it came from some hospital or science-forum or whatever - great! But why tabacco? What possible GAIN would they have, because you can be sure their gain is not for people to live healthier. That won't make them more money. No, what it's meant to do is make people look somewhere else for bad health. They are trying to shift blame, to make some other industry the Bad Guy they have been for so long. They are saying "Look - obesity is so bad, it has so many negative side-effects... come, have a smoke, at least you'll only die of ONE cancer". It's evil!

The guy who said that 'more studies show that it is a genetic cause than a circumstantial' one is the reason why lay people should not be making statements about biological issues. That is PATENTLY false. The environment is what ALTERS the genetic code directly or indirectly (epigenetics) and results in overproduction of cells (cancer). Things like hormone replacement therapy, smoking and obseitiy have been linked to cancer. Also, his statement saying that no one knows the cause of cancer is also wrong. Cancer isn't just 1 disease. It is almost a conglomerate of diseases. Unlike say...the common cold, there are different variations of cancer (I'm talking about divisions beyond just breast cancer and lung cancer). Even within the same cancer, there can be different genetic or epigenetic anamolies.causes. The truth is that cancer is a complicated disease. Her anger over an informational add is unjustified and she also provides 0 facts to support her claims.

Dieting is damaging to the body? Seriously? That happens when you use sudden starvation and immediately switch from an unhealthy diet to another unhealthy diet just to slice some kilos off for beach season. Maybe take a look at what can be achieved with gradual changes in eating habits, reducing processed carbs and sugar, and combine that with strength training and conditioning. Then take a measure of your health indicators and say that losing fat the right way is damaging.

Wow she is alarmingly stupid, and all the ones in the article that agreed with her, what is with this over sensitivity? Where does it come from? There isn't even any merit to it and it drives me insane because I can't begin to understand it. The food that generally causes one to become obese is usually laced with tons of chemicals, additives, hormones, artificial ingredients etc etc, these are the elements that many times cause cancer and obviously an obese person is consuming more of these things so why is this so hard to understand?

This woman is a goddamn idiot. As a 31 year old obese man who has been obese all his life, I can say with 100% certainty that the only reason obese people would find literally anything offensive when it comes to weight is simply because they are too lazy to deal with the issue and have simply found another way around it. Being curvy and "plump" is beautiful and sexy, not cross-legged and smelling like a pig because you break into sweat if you run for more than five seconds. I've avoided dealing with it my entire life and even though I think it's kind of too late, I'm changing that this year!

If science is allowed and encouraged to point out that alcohol, smoking and other lifestyle factors increase your risk of cancer then it is essential people know that obesity increases this risk too. Anyone who finds this a personal attack has failed to see the bigger pricture of educating people. Once again it’s political correctness gone too far. If obesity causes cancer people SHOULD know. Don’t take it personally!

How can anyone be offended about this advert and say it's 'body shaming'. What should they write? 'Hey you're beautiful as you are, whatever your size! You're perfect. Except factually you're more at risk of this disease. Objectively you're at risk. But subjectively you're beautiful. But yeah you could die.' The advert isn't saying 'you're fat and it's bad' it's saying 'obesity is a cause of cancer'. Beauty has nothing to do with this s**t. Would smokers be offended if it said 'hey there cool kid, smoking may look cool but you might get cancer.' It's just as factual, it's still a personal choice.

I'm thinking the body never chose to be that way. It's an excess of standard in-take of food expected. This excess brought on by innovations and availability of foods not immediately provided by nature and filled with fats. While I wouldn't shame it, I would not accept it as normal as well. Hence all the health issues associated with it. I don't look at that stomach and immediately think, "Ahh the wonders of nature, ordewring it to appear so." I think, "Holy hell somethings wrong here. That the way that's supposed to be?" Sorry to all obese pple in depresson and self pity and sorrow, but sometimes having terminal cancer is as simle as having terminal cancer, and being obese is as simple as being obese. You wish it weren't so, then congrats, you're functioning normally as someone crying at cancer diagnosis. ignoring it and taking everything as shaming just doesn't hange a thing. Much love to y'all

I need to see more data, though. The data as presented suggests not that obesity is a cause of cancer but that there are more cases of cancer in obese people- the age-old adage of correlation, not causation. This isn't to say that there isn't a connection between the health issues associated with obesity and ailments like cancer, but it's more complex than more weight = more sick. Sophie did exaggerate the situation and misconstrue the organization's message, but, IMO, both sides are guilty of shaping the narrative here.

When they publish research showing that processed meat increases cancer risk, it's not to demonize people who eat processed meat. The research isn't meant to convince me that putting pepperoni on a pizza makes me less valuable as a human being. It's not even telling me not to eat pepperoni, really. It's just sort of... letting you know the score. If you want to eat that go ahead, but know the risks. If you're happy being overweight and you have decided not to try and change that, then good for you, but you should make that decision knowing the consequences.

IF obesity causes cancer is it truly obesity that causes it or is it the fact that most obese people have horrible diets? Not diet in the meaning of someone trying to lose weight but diet in what we eat on a regular basis. The vegetarian obese person is absolutely healthier than a "thin" person who eats nothing but junk food. Quality of food, not personal weight should be examined here

So, an overweight comedian got butt hurt because she felt she was called out because of her weight. If being overweight contributes to some cancers, why not make it known. If someone is obese and feels that they are happy that way and doesn't want to try to be healthier, that is their right. However, if that pregnant woman sees the bill board linking cancer and obesity, and in turn, ensues that her child learns healthy eating and exercise habits, the advertisements have done their job.

I'm fat and I don't find this ad offensive. It's not the comments about my bodyweight or shape that hurt me, but the opinions people have about me 'Oh you must be lazy' etc. There is a reason why most obese people look the way they do and most of the times it's not about being lazy or not caring. But attitudes like Sophie aren't helping. Obesity does kill. Encourage yourself to heal what's underneath it.

Whether the ad is true and whether the ad is effective are entirely different questions. I see a lot of people arguing about the former, but isn't the latter entirely more important? Stating true facts isn't always the fastest way to get a desired result. Any legitimate beef with the ad would be over its effectiveness, IMO. Whether there are grounds for that beef is a subtler question. Who has studied the effectiveness of such campaigns? Possibly, no one has.

Fat Shaming has become popular in the UK now and in the United States, if you are not thin then you are a reject. Meaning thin by what the stars in Hollywood look like. Most are sickly looking. I am not fat and not thin, just right and I see shaming all the time for both sides. Wish everyone would just like people for who they are not what they look like.

It would be so much more rewarding if all the money was put into searching for solutions. For exampe, put it into: 1) research why so many people grow obese and do something about that (viruses, diabetes, et, 2) use all the taxes on smoking into research and medication so that people really can quit smoking. Nowadays all the tax money is put into shaming victims. It should be used for research and medical help instead of criminilizing people.

Now, you looking at the wrong side of this. First - obesity often is mistaken with chubiness. Some people are born to be bigger than others. For such individuals having 'weight' won't cause any trobule. Another point is that most extreme obesity cases are caused by dis-eases and side effects of medication. Third point : Yes, there are people who don't manage their diet, who eat junk food filled with thousands of calories and therefore becoming obese. However cancer research looks at only one side of it -result of overweight. What about the reason why people stuff themselves in the midnight with chiken nuggets and fries? You should acknowledge the cause of this type of obesity rather than effect of it. That is just my opinion.

I used to be a smoker and I don't know about anywhere else but Australia has some extremely aggressive anti smoking adds. I didn't find these offensive I found them accurate, I was a smoker because I chose to be. Quiting was horrendous and difficult and required constant trying and failing but it happened and now I have a reduced likelihood of getting cancer. If you are fat you will get sick and die. You have the ability to do something about that, stop pretending you don't.

Because, obbviously, it is an attack on women to make them feel fearful and thus cower knowing they have a ticking time bomb. GROW UP. It means fat=cancer. A fact. Not "you should be ashamed of being fat". How about " If you weigh more than recommended, you should be aware of a possible increase of the likely hood you'll be diagnosed with cancer." Oh, thats what the campaign said. And what I read said to make small changes, not do whatever it takes to look like a model.

As someone who has been and is still classed in the "obesity" category (f**k off BMI), to me its her allowing people to think that being obese (which is extremely unhealthy to the body) is okay. There is scientific research claiming that this is an issue. It'll be just the same if Mind posted that those with anorexia have one of the leading death rates for those with a mental illness. Yes, I personally understand that there are medical conditions & mental health issues that may make people overweight, but for me that's what I used to use as an excuse to not try and lose weight. It's ridiculous that the FDA & other European institutions designed to regulate these things have totally failed. Obesity across the planet that is making us sick & left with medical bills here in the states since we cannot get single payer! Dirty rats. It took me nearly all my 50 years to make a conscious effort to get away from all the lousy food but still addicted to sugary treats. There is a difference between fat shaming and health promotion. Obesity (which can be unrelated to BMI) is a significant risk factor for anything terrible. It's called a "comorbidity" in healthcare for a reason...it usually goes with death at an early age. So yeeeaahh if you have a large amount of fat that places additional stress on your body...not good things happen. Also obesity is usually correlated to "an unhealthy lifestyle" (high fat, low exercise, poor nutrition, poverty, homelessness, etc.) which increases the risk of cancer, strokes, and yeah everything. So I'll go with science on this one.

So she’s hysterical because proven medical advice supported by numerous scientific studies is offensive to her? There’s no way to make this truth of overeating and under exercising work for her because she’s talked herself into an alternate reality like the anti-vaxxers have. Look, she can declare that she loves her fat sagging belly all she wants, but the reality is, like all abusive one-sided relationships it doesn't love her back and in fact its very likely going to slowly kill her.

Just because someone is offended by something doesn't mean it's always wrong. The ad didn't say obese people were ugly or had less worth, all they were doing was letting people know. Just because a comedian decided it was offensive, she isn't a scientist nor did she study cancer at all so I support this ad.

I do not come from a place of self BLAME it does not help. Blaming obesity and using it as a blanket statement will not help your campaign nor will it help obese/ fat/ overweight/ large people and get them on board - your stupid advert is giving licence to let people continue to abuse overweight and obese people. Look at the vile comments can they say that about cancer of course not but you have given people licence to abuse obese people. Okay, both sides are right here. (really??). Yes, obesity is a big risk factor for cancer. But negative comments of any kind are a big risk factor for obesity. If you want to help people take control of their body weight, it really cannot come from making them more afraid, more uncomfortable with themselves, and more negative about their body image. So, people who are obese are OK as they are. They are beautiful strong amazing people. Helping people of any weight to discover that feeling fit is an amazing feeling (whatever their weight) I think would be much more beneficial here.

Cancer and obesity may be correlated, but correlation does not mean causation. Certain types of cancer are correlated with a lot of different genetic and environmental factors. It's grossly misleading. While I think it's important for us to take as good care of ourselves as possible, screaming obesity causes cancer in all caps in the subway is not the most efficient way to encourage self care. Reminding people that they are "obese" ("pointing out the obvious") isn't really helpful at all.

It's one thing to accept your weight, it's a whole other thing to get offended by the fact that having a lot of fat isn't healthy. That's like a smoker getting mad about health warnings (like the last person on Twitter mentioned). It's not a means to offend someone, it's trying to educate the public about what is true.

Obesity is unhealthy. That's a medical fact. Just because you don't choose to believe in science doesn't mean you're right. You can't complain that doctors are telling people not to be obese and claim it's fat-shaming. There's nothing to be ashamed of! It's a disease like anything else.

I think Cancer Research would be better off sharing stories of overweight/obese people who have successfully changed made a difference in their lives and health. I also think they should have dialogue with people who are overweight as opposed to this advert. I am not offended but I think it could be a lot better.

First of all it is not an advertisement, they are not going to earn money from anyone reading it. They are doing a public service for the public good. These people opposing it are just showing their own ignorance. If they wish to live in denial it’s their own problem. I preferred to watch my weight and stay healthy.

I know much people with obesity I find beautiful. But that doesn't change, it's unhealthy. You mix two different things. pictures of a stomach doesn't change the risk of getting ill. And: don't you have AdBlock? If you don't want to see the ad, block it. Ignoring facts just because some people find them offending doesn't change them.

GOOD GRIEF! HOW IS A LINK TO CANCER "A BEAUTY STANDARD"? What is her take on breast cancer? Is it a plot to target women ??

Unfortunately she's upset that her lifestyle doesn't fit the criteria of healthy. It's not fat shaming, it's science.

No I've changed my mind: Just saw a TEDTALK on YT & doctor reminded me that America & much of Europe's food industries have scientifically engineered such such a huge amount of our food is loaded with sugar, fats & artificial ingredients that deliberately addicts us to the very bad foods available. Gawd help us but don't punch down - don't blame people for sh!t we aren't even aware we are being manipulated by science!

It's a fact. It's not shaming anyone. They say obesity causes cancer, and it does, according to research. They aren't attacking anyone, they aren't telling anyone that they shouldn't be obese. They are simply informing people, which is pretty damn helpful.

I hear stories about emotional eating, fat being used to 'hide' behind and become 'invisible', unseen health conditions, co-morbidities, mental health, childhood abuse it goes on.
