What makes you think that we DON'T see the advantages? If you have some kind of magical solution for forcing our government and Big Pharma/Big Med Insurance to implement a "European-style healthcare system", please let us know.

It's the politicians and the wealthy that stop universal healthcare not the individual citizen. There's too much money to lose for them to make a change like this.

As an American, I definitely see the advantages. Unfortunately we are run by greedy corporations and apparently people like me don’t have a voice in the matter.

Ah, I got you. It's because conservative Americans know that Europe is a socialist hellhole, where everyone is forced to go to government doctors which means they die before they're allowed to get treatment. Just like Canada. Yes, people actually believe this. I mean, they've never been to Europe and have never met anyone from another country, but it's true, their dad/grandfather told them about when he was in Europe in the 40s (yep, mine too -- he just couldn't wrap his head around the idea that it doesn't look like the Europe he was dropping bombs on).

I understand the polls show a majority do favor single payer healthcare, but Republicans have been gerrymandering the voter districts so they win elections even though the majority in a state may vote Democrat. And when they control congress all they do is block any program that helps people other than the rich.

Exactly. There seems to be a huge abyss between Americans who can indeed be very helpful, kind and compassionate and their government, who denies their own citizens decent health care and education. Some third world countries offer better health care and education!

Most people want universal health care. Unfortunately, the politicians who are supposed to represent us are beholden to the health insurance and pharmaceutical company lobbies.

Oh, the majority of us do. It is the the GOP and their fear based approach, selfish agenda, their manipulation of the uneducated and the super rich (that actually run this country} that make sure this doesn't happen. (There are selfish people in both parties, but the GOP is all about "why should I pay for little 5 year old Bobby's insulin?" mentality.

We do! Most of us completely agree on universal healthcare, free higher education, universally free preschool, paid maternity/paternity/paternity leave, pro-choice, and helping the climate, saving the oceans, saving the rainforests, affordable housing, so on and so forth... Unfortunately it seems that based on how the US is geographically set up we could essentially be 4 separate countries-each with its own culture.

Most of us do! It's just those pesky Republicans who decide that they need to make life s****y for everyone.

This is just my opinion. One of the worst decisions in America (related to healthcare) was to have company subsidized health insurance. It has given us this system where people are afraid to leave their job because it means losing their health insurance. Employers choose the health insurance for their employees, the people don't really get to choose. And now that we've had this for decades, people are afraid to change it. The first thing we need to do is de-couple employment from health insurance.

Conditioning to think it's bad through life. First it was the red scare, then once the cold war was over we had a generation of teachers raised on that propaganda teaching only the cons of communism/socialism, and never explain the pros of said system. They also don't explain socialized medicine and socialism aren't the same thing, just let this bizarre bias against socialism influence ideas of what socialized medicine is. And I'm sure big pharma and insurance will come up with something new to flood media with in a few years to corrupt the next generation

We consistently vote people into office who promise JUST THAT, but they find out quickly who's actually running the country.

Rich people want the rest of us to die because we're not wealthy so we're not worthy.

Because some would lose out on millions of income. That is why it's so expensive in the USA. It's fantastic that there are still some who actually give damn about others. Kudos to you.

I'll be blunt exactly why: because anything the government takes over the in the United States turns to absolute s**t. Absolute, f*****g miserable s**t. Veterans in America get government-run healthcare and it's a f*****g nightmare that would make any sane person run into chopper blades. It takes four hours in line to get a new sticker for your car (fortunately some of these services have been put on line for some customers, but amazingly, wait times didn't improve with fewer customers). Students camp out for days to register for the courses they want at the best of U.S. state universities. And the previous time everyone was promised access to healthcare, what my best friend got was a $500 monthly bill, an insurance policy he'll never be able to use because of its $10,000 deductible, and the persistant horror that the IRS will f**k him up for life because he failed to make as much income as they forced him to predict he would.

Many of us feel the time for being nice has long since past....

We Americans Do see those advantages of the European Healthcare system. Sadly, our politicians don't as insurance companies and big pharmaceutical companies Fund our government. "For the people, by the people..." For WHAT people? By WHAT people? Civilians not included, unless it's convenient for the government, insurance companies and big pharmaceutical companies to do so.

And the necessity of guns.

Most generalizations this brief are not very accurate... this one IS.... sadly

If you have the ability to take a loan on a house it is going to cost you a lot less than rent to pay it off and you get some equity in future days to fund your next attempt to progress.
