Heartbreaking Moment When A 2-Year-Old Left To Die Is Given Water In Nigeria
“Thousands of children are being accused of being witches and we’ve both seen torture of children, dead children and frightened children.” These are the words of Danish aid worker Anja Ringgren Loven, who rescued this abandoned, starving two-year-old Nigerian boy. Sick with worms and malnutrition, the boy, now named Hope, had been wandering the streets for eight months.
Hope was discovered on January 31st, and has been receiving medical attention since; thanks to Ms. Loven, he is well on the way to recovery.

This boy was abandoned because his parents thought he was a witch
He had been wandering the streets for 8 months
Danish aid worker Anja found him on January 31st and named him Hope
Hope was suffering from malnutrition and worms
Thanks to Anja, he began to receive medical attention
And slowly, he began to get better
“Hope’s condition is stable now”
“Today, he has had powers to sit up and smiling at us. He’s a strong little boy”
“This is what makes life so beautiful and valuable and therefore I will let the pictures speak for themselves”

Load More Replies...I'm afraid that this is a true image of Nigeria, and even of the Africa for that matter, where human life has very little value... I've seen people dying on the sidewalk in front of the hospital, probably because they don't have enough money for the treatment. Elementary and basic education here is not mandatory for anyone. Schools are expensive and many Nigerian families can't even afford them. Kids end up illiterate and are being forced to work for 1-2-3 dollars per day... Corruption here goes to the highest extremes affecting absolutely all areas of society from traffic policeman to the highest ranking government officials. Nigerians all know it. Most of them don't want to stop being exploited - they want to be the one exploiting others... It might take several generations to change how things work in this part of the world... After almost 3 years that I've spent in Nigeria, these are my honest observations. Nigerians are, at least most of them, good and kind people.
Similarly in Uganda. It's heartbreaking & grieves me day in, day out.

This is touchy! In whatever you do and wherever you go touch someone's life in a special way. It does not mean to have much but wirth the little you have
Load More Replies...It is amazing to me that at only two years old, this child had been roaming the streets for eight months and somehow survived. Hope is a good name for him.
What kind of monster could do these things to children!!! he is such an angel thank God for people like Anja . what a strong beautiful amazing little soul Hope is !!!
I'm crying my eyes out right now just looking at this poor boy's face! How could ANYONE accuse a two-year-old of being a "witch" and just leave him on the streets to die? *tears* :_(
Unfortunately it's probably just a way for them to justify putting him out so they didn't have to, or couldn't take care of him. So sad :(
Load More Replies...It's really horrific and touchs my heart so much! I can't stop crying! Am a mother too and I wonder how cruel they're and doing this to their own blood!?
Truly a miracle that he survived so long. Many blessings for a long and happy life for him and the the sweet souls you save.
Thank you Anja! Your a angel who saved another angel! Jewels in your crown!
When I read the part that he's wandering the street for 8mths, that breaks my heart...
Thank you for helping people in need. I cant find words. It made me sad to see what his parents did and happy to see that he finally got someone who takes care. <3
Absolutely heartbreaking! I saw the first picture on FB a few days ago and it broke my heart! Thank you for saving him Anja, you are an angel, he is beautiful! How on earth can any parent think that their child is a witch?! These people live in the Middle Ages and need educating! It's awful! Thank you for saving him and thank you for posting pictures of him doing so well! He has a beautiful smile, and he is a true survivor! It beaks my heart to think that he was on the street for 8 months and he is only 2 years old! Bless him and bless you Anja! Xoxox
Not that it matters, but, didn't Hope resemble the boys standing behind him when he was being loaded into the car? Their little faces look upset. I'm so glad this baby is being taken care of now. I just want to hug him and cry. Poor sweet thing. How sad. :(
They look upset because they're touched by this painful sight, just like you and I are.

How did they know he was dumped on the street because his parents thought he was a witch?

Ohh my heart!!! How could a little angel like that be abandoned???i want to kill the ignorant parent!
Its part of Government's corruption. There is a civil war in Nigeria like other countries for example for the gold or other precious metals. A consequence, there is an exploitation. We have to unit each other to denounce these abuses.

Nigeria is blessed with natural resources, and a country filled with God promises like Israel, but the so call "independent" was vise verser
A society who is not taking care of here people, here kids, here future, has no future. Only animals and not even all of them can ignore someones else baby. This tells a lot of the actual state of that society, a society whitout future, without merci, without any kind of empathy to their own kind. Is unimaginable that something like this is even possible in 21 century.
There are many more children (from babies to teenagers) who have suffered and are still suffering fates worse than hope. We cant save everyone but everyone can help someone... let us all try to look past corrupt politicians etc. and donate to http://dinnødhjælp.dk/make-a-donation/
People in Western countries think they have it so bad. I wish there was some cosmic justice.

Thinking a two year old is a witch? Abandoning a toddler, throwing it into the street? I have no words.
Please donate to help Hope and other children that are being accused for being witches - even small amounts will do a difference. http://dinnoedhjaelp.dk/english_pages/general-support/ Thank you Anja Löven for being an angle for these children.
They thought he was a witch??? Any religion that teaches such ignorance is threat to all of humanity...not just that poor baby.
How terribly sad! I can't imagine abandoning your child for fear of something so ridiculous. I'm so happy he was rescued and I hope he finds a loving forever home <3
How can Anyone walk past a child like this? Glad someone finally stopped to help. Humanity feels like a misnomer. We are so often Not humane
Can anyone (maybe author) confirm the link below is indeed a legitimate account and link and not a scam? Or anyway to check?

Africans are still 500 years behind civilization, such evil is beyond any human capabilities. Nigeria is known for its many strange believes and this here highlights the level of its consciousness as a country towards human rights.
This very same thing likely happened in Europe during the 1500s before the general populace was educated. That's the key to all this.

Incredible that now in 2016 this still exists. Ignorant stupid people! Send people to educate them!
OMG. Make sure the white woman is shown prominently in these photos. We got to get it out there that only white people can save starving black children.
Y are you giving this little boy a girl name and dressing him like a girl. Bad enough his parents abandoned him but you want to give him a self image problem too! What on earth! On the other hand, thank you for recusing him and others like him. Parents are sometimes very stupid! AND mean. What is happening there is deplorable. You are a blessing to him and others like him! Bless you
Oh my goodness. Gotta make sure white woman is featured prominently in these photos. This is called aid tourism where lots of well to do white people with some misguided and grandiose sense of altruism try to find starving children and use them as props for their social media kudos. Believe it or not there are non-white people out there in the world helping starving kids too. They just don't make a great big deal out of it all.
I agree with you, there are a lot of people, all shapes, sizes, genders and cultures doing good in the world. Most people won't even think about putting it on social media. Is this woman really trying to 'advertise' the good deeds of white people, or the sad story of a country in need? I see a woman helping a child. There are enough racial issues going on all over the world today, so please don't turn a good deed into another one.
