Jerk Neighbors Pour Poison Over Couple’s Tomatoes, Couple Unleash An Ant Army On Them

Whether you live in a house or a flat, nightmare neighbors are a real problem that happens far more often than should be legally allowed. But the problem with needlessly complex and overtly confusing neighbor quarrels is that, for an outsider, it’s often impossible to take sides.

Let’s see how it goes this time. The Redditor u/KatiaV has recently shared an incident that her family had with the neighbors in what seems to be an epic neighbor saga titled “Do Not Hurt The Tomatoes.”

To put it shortly, a retired marine couple that lived next to the author has “decided to mount a campaign of general obnoxiousness against us” for an unknown reason.

It all escalated rapidly, and hit the boiling point when “then, they committed the ultimate crime.” Turns out, the marines dared to spray poison on KatiaV’s tomatoes and jalapenos. At this point, revenge was inevitable.

Read about the full incident right below, that (spoilers!) includes ants, thousands of ants.

Whether you’re a good neighbor, or the neighbor from hell, nobody likes ant infestation. (The question of whether some deserve it more than others is a different thing.) But ant infestations do happen, whether we like it or not.

Remember the last time you saw a handful of them dancing around the cereal box? The chances are they were not the only ones. One of the signs that shows you have an ant infestation is spotting a trail of ants inside your home. Ants will march one behind the other as a result of the pheromone trails they lay down once they have found a reliable food source.

Another sign is spotting piles of ants around your house. You may wonder how it happened that ants found their way into your precious home. Well, if it’s not revenge from the neighbor, which it may well be, the reasons can vary.

It quickly escalated into a full-blown neighbor war where revenge was inevitable

First, it may be food as ants are hungry, tiny creatures, scavenging for food like there’s no tomorrow. As soon as they find a source of nutrition, like countertops and pantries, they are likely to stay there. For a while.

Another reason may be moisture, as some species of ants thrive in damp wood, near cabinets, leaky pipes, and sinks.

Yet another thing you should consider is whether there are any cracks and crevices in your windows and doors. These tiny cracks can look like no big deal to you, but for ants, it’s basically a “Please, make yourselves at home” kind of invitation.

And this is what people had to comment on it

Incredibly, the researchers at Stanford found that keeping ants away may have little to do with costly pesticides. “People spend a lot of money on year-round pesticides,” says Deborah M. Gordon, associate professor of biological sciences and lead author of the study, “but it’s not the pesticide that keeps ants out of your home, it’s the weather.”

In fact, the research suggests that the majority of Argentine ant invasions occur during winter rainstorms and summer droughts. The results show a close link between weather and ant infestation.”

Ants are most likely to enter homes in cold, wet conditions, typically in the winter in Northern California,” the study authors concluded, noting that a smaller peak in the level of infestation occurs during hot, dry conditions—typically in August and September.

Unfortunately, even part 2 (that Pheolei linked to) doesn't explain about the raccoons... yet, it does contain a rather funny anecdote involving an unnecessarily aggressive mini pony, several ill tempered llamas and a very angry goat. I'm assuming part 3 will be released shortly.

She could have been lovely, tall and lithe, how would you know? Just because someone is big and strong does not make them have that personality. Temperament is not related to physique or body type despite 100 year old + dimestore psychologists.

If you had videoed them spraying your plants, in the same video, taken samples to send to a lab, I'm pretty sure you would have had a solid case. Even outside of Texas. Who the hell poisons their neighbors.. i'm sorry so many ants had to die on this hill.

3x 5lb bag doesn't sound like very much? Even at a near impossibly efficient conversion rate of 1gr sugar ==> 1gr ant, and ants being between 1000 and 5000 ants per gr (large vs small species), that's only .... err... 1000 ants/gr x 450 gr/lb x 15 lb.... between 6.7million and 33million ants? Ok yes they may have a problem (also it's easier to kill 1large than 5small ants).

The idiots next door that poisoned his tomatoes better be glad that he didn't go to a farm supply place and buy a 50 lb bag of a soil sterilizer like Pramitol. It kills grass and weeds for years when applied properly. When I worked in commercial two-way radio repair and later a 9 county cellular market, that is what I used around my tower sites and tower guy anchor points. It also works great on fence lines. The guy with the tomatoes could get his ultimate revenge with the soil sterilizer and a leaf blower to blow it over the fence into the other guys yard.

Best article yet! I'm just glad I have a good pair of neighbors. My other neighbors... Have a house worth around $750,000 yet never come outside, mow the lawn, communicate with us, or show themselves. The only reason my dad knows the husbands name is because my good neighbors overheard it when the bad ones first moved in. Neither of us know the wives name, yet she's the only one we see. She comes out and yells at the dogs when they do anything besides us the bathroom after she lets them out. Poor puppers :(

Here is the second half of the story....... https://www.reddit.com/user/KatiaV/comments/lfpcr2/do_not_hurt Now, where were we? Oh, yes, there. When we last left off it was at the end of The Great Ant Wars and The Marines were beginning recovery. As happens, time passed and several months later they were back to their version of normal. The devastation wrought by The Great Ant Wars on their backyard had been mainly eradicated and life on Avenida Pancho Villa was back to it's natural, orderly routine when one morning the Tomato Avengers and Rescue Troop was gathered on my patio (this was a recurring assemblage of the core group, usually involving mimosas or margaritas) and we heard a large vehicle pull into The Marines drive. Not being nosy -just curious-, everyone ran over to take a peek. Except me. I ambled. It was a pickup truck. One of the very tall and very long ones. And out of it climbed The Marine, Jr. In looks he was the perfect combination of his parents. In personality..."

The poison on the salsa infuriated me. What the frick were they thinking?! You could have frickin died and they could've gone to jail! (sad they didn't tho, although the ants were pretty good).

TLDR: “My neighbor harassed me over dumb shīt, then sprayed my plants with poison, so I threw sugar in her yard and she got ants. They were ugly. I like to tell jokes.”

Should even further escalation be needed, I would suggest planting running bamboo and when the grove matures in a year or two, importing a troop, barrel or cartload of Howler Monkeys to live up in the tops.

Why, but why would you tell in a story how big someone is? What is the obsession of height in the US? No one cares.
