Nanny Shares 29 Posts From Entitled Parents Who Would Ask Nannies To Pay Them If They Could
Interview With ExpertSometimes parents forget that having a nanny is a luxury. As a result, the internet gets flooded with job ads that try bargaining with people working in childcare. Not only that, but parents also often expect them to endure long and exhausting hours while simultaneously trying to achieve the long list of chores they’re assigned.

Load More Replies...Hummm. How about Community Service hours? That's the same as volunteer hours, right? Will you sign off on some of those? Asking for a friend
This just makes me irate. If you're going to have kids, take care of them and don't try to con some stranger into working for free.
This can't be real. I struggle to believe people would be actively looking fur inexperienced care giver for their children
These peeps want a stranger to look after their kids - like a SAHM, so yes, I can believe this. There is a magazine in the UK called 'The Lady', and it's chock-a-block full of jobs like this.
Load More Replies...No, I won't get a degree so it's not counting as an "education" in childcare!
Round here 35 hours is a full work week. How do they expect that person to live? Transportation not included i suppose?
LMAO, do they honestly think think anyone is going to take them up on this? Clowns.
These people are totally out of touch with reality. What college graduates has 25 hours a week to volunteer to be a slave?
No petrol money. $10 an hour. Won't be covering rent or food or anything.
The ones with money are always the cheapest. And are offended your not understanding the opportunity to bask in their greatness.
Legit I pay my partner even tho we're married a portion of my checks since I'm the sole income and they're the SAHP. I couldn't fathom not paying a sitter.
Lol cant half tell this person is some monster in HR by the ad design.
100 dollars a week? This is 2024, not the 1990’s. Also in mentions “full time” so you’ll be getting like 14 bucks for 8 hours a day. No thanks!😆
In an interview with People, 22-year-old professional nanny Sophia said that the reason she started sharing such informational videos was because she was receiving multiple messages a day from other nannies being blatantly taken advantage of.
“I knew people would not only be able to relate to the texts but I was hopeful it would help others in the industry feel less alone when facing mistreatment!” she added.
Bachelors degree to watch your neglected children you had to carry on your name for $6 an hour but must prove to be working non stop and never sit down... right.
Am I reading this right? 7 hours/day, 7 days/week = 49 hours/week. At $115/week, that's $2.35/per hour for three very young kids plus laundry and "organization." Oh, and you need a college degree. That's not deluded, that's a full-on mental illness.
After her videos reached a wider audience, she reports having received some negative reactions and responses. “There are people upset I'm advocating for nannies to be paid a living wage because it means they can no longer get away with paying their nanny minimum wage—or even below. It genuinely baffles me why anyone would want to pay the person caring for their child $2/hr!”
"Expectations are high, and as such you will be compensated highly".... up to $10 hr...wtf?
Despite having to deal with ridiculous offers and requests from parents, she continues to enjoy her nanny career, mainly because she’s able to form such a precious bond with kids. “The industry is so special because as a nanny you are allowed the privilege of stepping into other people's lives and going alongside parents to help them raise their children,” she said to People.
Take the job and quit om the first day. Only gotta pay return then.
She continued, “It comes with massive responsibility but also is such an incredible honor to be valued and trusted with the most important thing in the life of a parent. Being able to assist in the growth, development and nurturing of children is an unparalleled opportunity and I'm so thankful for all the families who have given me that privilege over the years!”
Charter school... yep says it all right there. Same trash who votes for people who gut schools and keep child care unaffordable Im sure.
To get an even deeper insight into the nanny industry, Bored Panda reached out to award-winning nanny, lead educator at Global Nanny Training, and parenting author Michelle LaRowe.
Based on more than 25-year-experience she tells us that some of the worst job offers she has seen include asking nannies to take on inappropriate tasks like cleaning patio furniture, diapering the family dog, offering a place to stay for childcare, and requiring availability 24/7. “What the worst job offers share in common are unrealistic expectations regarding fair and legal pay, nanny duties and responsibilities, and professional boundaries,” she explained.
This woman is off on her morals. And that poor girl doesn't know her worth
How do they think people can do all that and pay them for rent on top of that it's bizzarre
When asked why so many parents mistreat professional nannies in such a way, Michelle mentioned two main reasons. “One, because they've found someone to do the job before at the wage rate they've offered, and two, because they are simply ignorant of the responsibilities of being a fair, legal, and compliant household employer.
First-time nanny employers often have no understanding of what they are getting into when considering nanny care. Not only are they unaware of the legalities and compliance responsibilities for household employers, but they are also unaware of the scope of nanny practice and realistic expectations surrounding in-home childcare.”
Something she proposes that could help the situation is finally moving nanny care from an occupation to a profession. “This starts with continued professional development,” Michelle says. “Nannies should align with others through membership in organizations like the International Nanny Association and the US Nanny Association. They should enroll in high-quality and accredited training, like those offered through our organization at GlobalNannyTraining.com.”
Oh no! That’s terrible. I’m sure the babysitter would rather stay home than have the “experience” of going to the family’s choice of destination and having to watch the kids for free. If they’re being this cheap, it’s likely the babysitter would get stuck sharing a hotel room with the kids too.
I thought to myself "$50 a day is more reasonable than these OTHER posts" until I read that the nanny/babysitter would be expected to work OVER twelve hours. (So - approx. $4/hr)
She additionally mentions that being more educated on the business side of things can also benefit them greatly. This includes understanding their tax responsibilities, the importance of having a work agreement and creating and maintaining professional boundaries. “Utilize resources created specifically for nannies, like Nanny Magazine and reputable nanny referral agencies, and only accept positions that offer fair and legal pay and have realistic nanny duties and responsibilities,” she advises.
Reply should just be laughing emojis and a link to math for kindergarteners.
Why is it advertised at "under $200 a week" like they're trying to rent out the kid....
Its sad that $6.60 an hour is on the higher end for what some of these trash expect. And they all still vote for the people that keep child care out of reach.
People in the comments were in disbelief
Reminds me of a conversation I had with my mom. She just turned 90. She said the helper we hired enjoyed taking my mom to museums and the botanical gardens so maybe we should pay less for day trips. My mom is disabled and needs help getting to the toilet, getting in and out of cars, getting food, needs a wheelchair on trips. I said, would you prefer your helper be miserable on the day trips that you request? It’s work. Period. Whether she enjoys it or not. So we continue to pay for helper’s time, admission, gas and food. Because it’s work.
I work w disabled individuals. I love going on outings but it’s still work and I expect fair compensation. Just cause you like your job doesn’t mean you should get paid less.😂
Load More Replies...All I can think is people are having children because they're supposed to but don't actually want to raise them. And every expense related to them seems like a burden
I work with a lot of this type. The OMG, it’s the school holidays and I have to either pay someone to look after my children or actually do it myself! I have to bite my lip not to ask, So, when you decided to have children, who did you think would be caring for them?
Load More Replies...The thing so many of these nutcases fail to grasp is that even if children are sleeping, and even if you “only” have to care for them for x amount of hours, they’re asking you to be available. That means you are UNavailable for other employment. Y’know, the employment you would actually need to live because there’s not a single rate on this list that approaches a livable wage.
Even corporations have failed to grasp this fairly recently (and maybe still do, I don't know). I remember a few years ago walmart used to require people working part time to be available all day every day, so they could be scheduled last minute.
Load More Replies...Almost all of these are basically asking for a full on stay at home parent, without the (wink, wink, nudge, nudge) benefits (although that might eventually be asked of them). A nanny and the random teenage babysitter are NOT the same thing, but these people are expecting both nanny and maid duties for the price of the teenage babysitter. I had many babysitting jobs as a teenager. Most were just a night here and there. But I had a few regular ones, but not one included housework (meals for the child were usually either premade, or minimal, such as sandwiches).
People posting these should be sent off to a discount vet to get desexed. Poor kids, parents do not even care they exist.
Was at the kids museum with my youngest. Got to talking with a woman who was there with a wobbler around the same age as my kiddo while they played. She seemed a little young and gave new mom vibes but what's it to me? If she wants to crouch by her kid with her hands cupped protectively around his head while hes in a tight spot, that's up to her. But it wasn't. She was the nanny. I couldn't fathom being so overprotective, overbearing, yet absent all at once. Poor nanny, poor kid.
I made $100.00 per week babysitting two kids M-F for the summer back in 1987!!
I thought the article, or the idea looked familiar, thanks Anony mouse!
Yes, this has been reposted dozens of times over the past six months. Still a bad TikTok. Has been discussed to death both here and on other sites.
The poll was wild, 21% of people tried to say that some parents might not realize how unrealistic they are, yea, b******t! Try again.
If people want kids they should be willing to be UNEMPLOYED so they can care for their own kids, not to hire a slave to do that work for them
What surprised me was all those would be employers asking for someone with a college education but still dumb enough to accept the working conditions and pay, that they offer.
These people are all on crack. Do they not see that they are soliciting slaves?
I'm not sure which makes me more sad, these "We've got Money but F**k you, it's your duty to help us!" type of people or the "I can't afford more than USD150/week but need a full time nanny" type of people?
These parents need an Educated Professional to slap them into Reality that they are being completely inappropriate and it could lead to their child being mistreated because they paid someone without proper knowledge to care for their children. If someone took some of these jobs with the unreasonable expectations... it really is sad if no one can help them to see that they're bargaining with their child's well-being and safety on some level. My children come first, no matter what and it's my responsibility not anyone else's when it comes down to it.
A lot of this stems from the bad economy. A lot of parents that didn't work or didn't do full time now suddenly have to just to make ends meet, and if they live in a place without subsidized childcare, they're in a really tough spot. A single parent earning 50k can't afford to pay a nanny 35k but also can't afford to not work. I'm not saying this justifies all the people in this article, I'm just saying the problem runs a lot deeper than just entitled parents in many cases.
Please tell me that nobody actually answers these terrible ads! I would hate to think of anyone taking these jobs, and being exploited
When my husband and I were first married we were so broke we'd do anything for extra money. I babysat for a couple where the husband didn't work and just played video games while I watched the kids. I don't remember the pay, I think it was fair but hey why don't you watch your own kids since you are home with them??? Nope world of Warcraft was more important.
Since this isn't the first time we are seeing this girl, and she goes straight to tik tok every time, she is making more money now off of ads and engagement then she is being a nanny and BP is just helping funnel money to her. I don't even know what to call this: A Nanny Shaming Content Creator? God I hate social media. I get her point and these people are insane but posting them on socials won't change ANY of these people now or in the future when every other real employer does this same thing.
I always wonder who these delusional parents are imagining is out there to take these jobs. Like, they're imagining that there are just scads of highly educated rich professionals who somehow have nothing but free time and super low self esteem, so they're desperate to work long hours for peanuts? Or they're expecting to find someone who's in the country illegally they can underpay? Or maybe they're just narcissists who genuinely believe that other people only exist to serve them, and they're perfectly aware that they'd be screwing over anyone they hired under these terms and believe that they're entitled to do so.
I've been a preschool teacher and a nanny and I have 2 degrees in education. But people still think less of childcare as a profession because they don't consider it a real job. It's disgusting and very disheartening. I've even been through hell with families that seemed like a good gig at the time because they got comfortable and started treating me unfairly, like I owe them my time. And preschool isn't much better because it's generally more children with a lower starting pay. I'll probably never return to either
I mean, it are people on normal salary who want someone to watch their kids full time. No one can pay that on a normal salary. Just €250 a week is almost half my salary.
You must really hate your kids if your NOT willing to pay a good wage for child care. Then maybe you shouldn't have had any!!!
