Most of you already know how weird Japanese people can be. I guess Japanese find the western culture weird as well from our level of perception, some of the Japanese trends are really absurd. Here are my favorite top 10 of the weirdest things in Japan.

10. YEABA: “Double tooth” – Uneven Canine trend
Japanese girls consider having crooked teeth to be a very attractive thing. This trend is called Yeaba which is translated into English means “Double tooth”.
9. The gas mask town
After big volcano eruption on the Island of Miyakejima that occurred in 2000, the whole population was evacuated. They stayed away from their home for 4 years. Due to the pyroclastic flow and the sulfuric gases, the population has to be on constant alert and be prepared with gas masks.
8. Bagel head trend
Bagel head is a body modification practice that originates from Canada but is very popular in Japan. Bagels on the forehead are produced by injecting saline solution. Fortunately, this procedure is temporary, after 15-24 hours, the bagel head is completely gone.
7. Museum for Parasites
Yes, there is such a thing as a Museum of Parasites and it is Located in Meguro, Tokyo. I don’t recommend you going there if you have a weak stomach. Looking at 8 meters long tapeworm isn’t the best way to spend your vacation in Japan.
6. Expensive melons
A good muskmelon with a few imperfections can reach a price of $ 300. Well, I don’t know what is in that melon but you’d better spend that kind of money for noodles.
5. Japanese women dye their teeth black
Geishas in Japan used to dye their teeth in black because white teeth were considered an ugly thing.
4. The “Gangiro” Trend
The “Gangiro” Trend is popular in Japan and it is literary translated as “Blackface”. They put black makeover on their faces. In the past, Geishas considered a pale white face as a concept of beauty, but times have changed. If you ask me, “Blackface” trend is much nicer than the Geisha look. However, that is just my opinion.
3. It is normal to adopt an adult male in Japan
This will actually blow your mind, 98% of the adopted people in Japan are 20 to 30 years old males. This is because some business owners who don’t have sons to inherit their business and the family name just adopt an appropriate heir.
2. How does it feel to be dead?
In the festival called Shikato Festa, many Japanese try what it feels like to be dead. You can even choose your funeral clothes and the color of your coffin. After taking a couple of pictures in the coffin, you are ready for your last day. Consider this as training… Creepy indeed.
1. There is an Island full of rabbits in Japan
Ōkunoshima is a small island located in the Inland Sea of Japan also known as the “Rabbit Island”, because of the population of hundreds of thousands of feral rabbits. The rabbits are so many that they apparently do not fear humans.
