I’m Marieke, a 31 year old photographer from the Netherlands who jumped into the beautiful world of Urbex about 3 years ago.
Buildings where once was a lot of activity. Where people lived, worked or invoked their God. Buildings that sometimes give you the impression that they are abandoned overnight. Silence is in charge now. But there is also the presumption of stories, that testify to a long and fascinating history.
What has happened here? It stimulates the senses and the imagination. People in the last days of their lives. Smiling people or people with grief. Factory workers are taking a break. A miner with a cigarette careless between his lips.
These sites seem almost unreal, and often they are literally not easily accessible. Impressive is the way nature takes over when man disappears. Life after people.
Beauty for those who want to see.

Find a beautiful place and get lost
Start with the end in mind
No water, no life. No blue, no green.
Guard me through the night. And keep me safe till mornings light.
Exercise control in all things
Imagination is my monastery
You wear a mask for so long you forget who you were beneath it
Swing from the chandelier
Sometimes we need to lose the small battles in order to win the war.
Do no harm to the sick

Share on FacebookGreat work. You really brought some life to something that many would regard as meaningless. I recommend visiting northeast Ohio someday. The Rustbelt is full of abandoned warehouses, shopping malls etc.
Thank you so much for the compliment! It's a bit of a travel for me to go to Ohio but when i can, i will! :D

Load More Replies...Why the washed out shadows? It would be more in keeping if the images are more realistic.

Load More Replies...Some of the photos look so scary, especially the photo of the bedroom with the mirror =))) However, this album is very beautiful.
Thanks for your nice words! I can imagine it looks scary, but an abandoned house just feels very peaceful. :D
