I mean, the 72 animals didn't all happen at once. We actually just had one chocolate labrador the first time that we made our way up the single track roads that were to become our home. This was a couple of years ago, now - and along the way, our family grew. First it was twelve chickens that all had names and Fizz and Mugglewump, the ducks. And then we ended up with some alpacas because the grass ended up being an awful lot to cut, and then there were the sheep...

You know how it is - this dog desperately needs a home, would you take her in? And "wouldn't it be fun to have a couple of geese?" And "I suppose we need some more chickens as well."

So now we have 72 animals. All of them have names. I started taking photos not long after we moved in - I don't settle well, and focusing on all of the things that I loved helped me find my roots. Personally, I think we need to add a couple of donkeys to our crew. They make excellent lawn mowers, after all!

I sort of feel sorry for people who feel having a few animals around is such an unusual experience.

What I would give to live this sort of life! I envy you. How many acres do you live on, if you don't mind me asking?

This is probably a dumb question, but do chickens in the wild nest in low trees in nature or just where they feel safe?
