Munroe Island is a small island located at Kollam District in Kerala (Gods Own Country), India. It is formed by the backwaters of Ashtamudi Lake and Kallada River, this island is named after Colonel Munroe, the British Resident of erstwhile Travancore State. He is credited with having integrated several backwater regions by digging canals.
The calm and Serene backwaters make it a perfect tourist spot. There are small boat services available for tourists where they take through the narrow canals inside the village. The beauty of the place can’t just be described in mere sentences but you have to feel it. The place is a perfect spot to get yourself refreshed from the busy city life. However the low-lying areas of the Island are now under a threat of Submerging in high tides. This is post-tsunami phenomena.
