There are not many things that withstand the test of time and you may have thought that mullets are definitely not one of them. But you’re wrong. There’s even an annual festival called "Mulletfest" in Kurri Kurri, Australia dedicated to honoring these hairstyles. London-based photographer Craig Gibson traveled there to photograph the best of the 2020 contestants.
"I'd seen the festival online and researched it by watching various YouTube videos and following hashtags and then I just decided to book a flight and go. The festival seemed quite loud, but I wanted to make something a bit quieter and fashion-based,” the photographer says to Bored Panda.
In his series "Kentucky Waterfalls," he captures some of the faces of the competition of all ages from all over the world. His aim was to capture a more intimate side of the event and its attendees, so he chose to wander around and ask people whether they would like to take an interesting portrait. Here are the best photos that he captured there.

He’s got the look but gone too long at the back. A good mullet shouldn’t go below the shoulders or it’s just a bit too hippy dude
He reminds me of the villian on dispicable me who likes to dance to michael jackson lol
ex model for gay magazine's and presently a bartender in San Francisco's night life.
I guess I just haven't been calling these haircuts by the right name. They just look tacky~
If this kid is of Native American descent it is all completely legit.
I actually love his face. Makes me want to get some clay and sculpt it
Agree with Scagsy about the lack of mullet BUT the photographer reflected in the pupil is pretty remarkable photography!
Is it just me or did anybody else hear "Dueling Banjos" playing in their head while scrolling through this? SQUEAL PIGGY!!!
Because they like Mullets. Does there have to be another reason?
Load More Replies...i am totally convinced they´re doing right. just do your thing. express yourself. keep on guys. the world is colourful.
AAUUUGGGHH!! I hate mullets (no offense to you people who have them, you are all perfectly fine I just disagree with your hairstyle choice) and looking through this list was absolutely grueling... so many of these people would look SO much better if they just cut that awkward strip of hair dangling from the back of their head!!!
Mullet life is supposed to be "Business in the front, party in the back" so why do they all look so angry?
I'm not a fan of the aesthetic of the mullet, but it sure is a very brave hairdo. I think you'd have to have a lot of character to pull off a mullet and be totally unfazed about the general opinion on them. Good on these guys.
OMG. That so-called “haircut” is ALLWAYS ugly og will allways be, 🙈🙈🙈
I have a mullet, sadly I don't have the balls to show you people....
I have to admit that some of the guys here looks pretty cute even with mullets. That isn't the most annoying haircut after all. "let me talk to the manager" Karen's hairdo definitely takes the cake. I hope that they won't make that convention and accidentally summon a satan waiting "too long" at the reception.
woman with ugly hair in 200 different colors and shapes:"omg so unique and beautiful"...men having ugly mullets:"meh"
Has anyone seen the new trend where women get mullets? Omg I don't know how but it actually looks so cool on some people!!
When I was doing a lot of traveling/working in Portugal and Spain during 2010 I did see quite a few younger women with mullets. They were likely part of the counter-culture, but they wore them proudly.
Load More Replies...Mullets are definitely coming back. In all my years being a hairstylist, this last week I've cut more mullets then I ever have before.
The cover photo chap looks like Nigel Thornberry from The Wild Thornberries
Most of these look like wannabe mullets. If you want to see a really nice one, go look at Billy Ray Cyrus when he first became famous with his song "Achy Breaky Heart". Now that is a sexy mullet! lol
I've been wondering if guys with mullets would ever wear their hair in a pony tail. Well, there is the answer ;-)
Load More Replies...I think most of the mullets were quite well-cut... that hairdo was very popular among hockey players in Canada in the 1980s and 1990s... possibly still, I don't know.
Mullets are like the Aussie signature haircut, I love the mullets they do look weird I know but man that took work to grow
I don't understand this concept, is an american thing, or some kind of culture? Sorry, i'm from south america (Argentina) and all I see is strange hair cuts!
Actually, I believe their really popular in Australia, though, at least where I live, America has their fair share of mullets! It's supposedly "business in the front, party in the back", I suppose it does look a bit odd the first couple times, but their actually really creative and artistic if you look closely! :D
Load More Replies...Just had my hair cut yesterday. Short hair is not forgiving as it grows out.
Just like people using crocs with socks. No logic answer.
