A Special Photography Project With The Finger Amputated Professional Climber Mor Sapir
I’ve spent one month photographing the Para-climber Mor Sapir From Tel-Aviv, Israel.
This is his Story:
“I started to climb as a form of rehabilitation after loosing all of my fingers as a result of the severe frostbite i sustained during the snowstorm disaster in the Annapurna area of Nepal in October 2014.
For me, climbing became a way to succeed in the “jungle of life” : visualizing life as a climbing route, makes it easier for me to overcome difficulties as they rise in both life and climbing.
We all have a starting point- birth, and all of us have the same end destination – death. In between each of us encounters personal difficulties, some of then much harder than expected. And we might feel stuck if we fail negotiating them. People who surround us, might advise you how to act but in order to truly overcome an obstacle we must remain active and it is upon us to take the leap of faith.
I came to realize that each of us has their own battle and our own obstacle and that everyone has a unique way of making our way up.
I wish for the climbing to remain a main part of my life. As a pioneer – the first person to climb without fingers- my aim is to reach every competition in order to prove that everyone can climb, no matter the disability. I Dream of going to the Olympics wining every competition.
My dream is that a day will come that the number of the climbers with my disability convinces the competition makers to establish a special category for us.
I wish that every school would have a climbing gym. Starting from young age children should learn what took me a while to understand – all of us have our own path with our own obstacles, there is no need to try and be someone else, we have to find our own way to the top.”
