This Mom Just Asked To Reschedule Solar Eclipse, And The Internet Can’t Take It

August 21st marks the total solar eclipse of 2017, and America is getting ready for a spectacular view! People are organizing special events and parties to mark the rare occasion, including the Perot Museum of Nature and Science in Dallas, which is holding a party the day of the event. Unfortunately, one mom realized that August 21st isn’t going to work for her because of back-to-school week, so she asked the museum to reschedule…

“Most kids go back to school that day,” she writes. “Can it be done on the weekend?” The Internet completely lost it when they saw her suggestion, and now people can’t help but make fun of her. The mom has deleted her comment since, but someone managed to screenshot it along with some hilarious comments from other people. Keep on scrolling to take a look!

How sweet were the days were one stupid comments made offline would only have you ridiculed by your friends. On the other hand: you would have been ridiculed for weeks. With the Internet's constant stream of obscurities, such things spread fast but usually also fade fast...

Oh no no no no, the internet may lose interest, but it never forgets! Case in point: hello from the future!

I get the joke but of course she was requesting to have the party for the kids on the weekend before the event.

Hmm...you could be right. Perhaps we are all laughing at the wrong subject. Anyway, the party is that day and that moment to actually see the eclipse and not for any other purpose I imagine

For the woman who wants to have the event rescheduled. Do what our schools are doing . It will be a teacher-student learning day . Every one is given the day off so they can observe the solar eclipse.

I worked in customer service from years. People like this literally want the world to revolve around them. They make "helpful" suggestions about what would be best for everyone, even though it is really about what works for them.

Why don't some people pause to think before they speak/act/hit the send button? O.o

I can understand that her mind recognized it as an event, not a natural occurrence. She probably knew exactly what a solar eclipse is but just failed to realize that it was actually happening that day. She might've been asking to have the event rescheduled even though what the event was being held for couldn't. Clearly she is mortified by this public humiliation.

I don't really find it all that funny, more sad that we are now publicly ridiculing one poorly thought out comment to this degree. Poor woman.

I agree Wanda. I understand what it's like to post something like this before you've really thought about it and then immediately regret it. I wish some people weren't so quick to jump on the bandwagon when it comes to making fun of such mistakes.

It's like those posts "only genius can solve this problem 2+4=9 so what is 4+9?", people feel like they have to show they are better than everyone. Yeah make fun of strangers if it can make you feel smart...

When I was little I was told to turn my tongue in my mouth seven times before speaking - a way of saying think before you speak. Maybe nowadays Facebook should ask "are you sure you want to post this?" seven times before actually posting, giving people the time to think a little more about it. She probably doesn't understand what an eclipse is, and that's sad.

Seven times... may be a bit much, but I am totally with you on this idea. The trouble is, we're all so used to just clicking 'yes' for everything that I wonder how many people would actually stop and consider the post

When I was in college and working as a DJ at KXKZ, a lady called and asked me to repeat what I explained about the Lunar Eclipse starting at about 10:30pm. She replied, "Don't they know this is a school night and kids can't stay up that late!!!" REALLY STORY May have been this ladies mother.

She's no dumber than anybody else who is excited about the eclipse. It's just an eclipse, we've seen them before and they're not that special or entertaining. Nor did they make this big of a deal about it, but I guess in the information age and with the 24 hour news cycle any stupid little thing gets blown out of proportion. All I know is at work (I work at Amazon) we are laughing ourselves hoarse over you morons buying all these stupid eclipse glasses. Half of which aren't even really safe for theirs specified use.

I like scrolling through change.org in the 'recent' category. So far I have found (just under eclipse) the man who wants his wife to expose her womb to the eclipsing sun so their unborn child can develop superpowers; someone petitioning Donald Trump to reschedule it a half-hour forward so it won't hit rush hour somewhere; another social moron demanding it be canceled so his parking spot will be there for him on Monday (this one addressed to NASA), along with the usual stuff demanding that various computers games recognize their character as something major (and demanding money for the idea), or various sites should have new emojis for specific things--one was a llama. You can't make this stuff up

If I had more faith in the basic understanding of humans to understand an eclipse is a natural phenomenon, I would have some confidence in suggesting she meant to ask if the 'eclipse party' could be rescheduled. Though that would essentially ruin the specialness of the event.

She could think it was not directly related with the Eclipse. By the image that they show to us could be any kind of party. We all have our "brain loading" moments. The situation is fun anyway :p

A. It says 'free' event, meaning tickets are symbolic, and B. they probably distribute them for various activities that will take place during the eclipse, probably educational ones.
