“I just wanted to share an update about Molly the magpie. I’ve spoken to Reece and Juliette and reassured them Molly is in great spirits and is receiving good care. This morning the Department has advised me that the couple can secure the appropriate license,” the premier wrote in an update on Instagram.
“The team will work with them now to do that. It’s good news and means Molly can come home very soon. I’d like to thank everyone who has written to me to share their concerns and advocate for Molly’s return,” he added.

Molly the magpie was seized from the home of Juliette and Reece last month due to permit issues. The beloved bird was taken in by the couple in 2020 after he fell from his nest. As Molly was nursed back to health, he formed an unbreakable bond with the couple’s pet dogs. Molly and Peggy shared an extra special bond that made netizens fall in love with the unlikely animal friendship.
Thousands of fans currently follow the Peggyandmolly page, which is dedicated to the two animal pals, often seen basking in the sun, playing together, or just hanging out at Juliette’s home.
So Sanity prevailed. Now THERE is hopeful news for the world !! I find this bird particularly interesting - because she is NOT what she looks like. She looks like a crow, yes? And other magpies in the world ARE crow relatives, Corvids. Aussie magpies aren't - they aren't even in the same family. Convergent evolution likes to fool us. Her behavior is rather crow-like- but not exactly. Fascinating! I keep expecting the news that Aussie scientists have discovered their magpies are actually - marsupials... :-)
Such happy news!!! They are each other’s Yin and Yang and they must never be separated again!!
