Today we’d like for you to meet the artist Mahnaz Yazdani. Mahnaz’s deep and meaningful work often portrays society's problems in surrealistic illustrations that tend to show how everyday people (just like us) suffer from things that seemingly the rest of our modern society refuses to acknowledge more often than not.

One could say we probably have gotten used to the said problems just because we are always surrounded by them, so much that we don't even notice them anymore. However, things such as war, global pandemic, and problems revolving around our mental health aren’t going anywhere any time soon.

All in all, Yazdani’s work might give you a thought or two regarding the way we live currently.

I have a policy when I am with my kids: no devices OR everyone on devices. Also: weekends: allocated device time. During the week: devices only after kids are asleep.

This is only one moment in time, with an awful lot of judgement attached to it. In the '60s, women worked less but spent about 45 minutes less with their children, daily, than the average mother does today. The expectations society has of us are unrealistic. Not to mention that we have no idea what parents are using their phones for when you see them in this situation. Last time my child was trying to get my attention when I was using my phone in public, I was being informed by our vet that our dog has terminal cancer and that treatment would cost around $40,000. I couldn't just hang up in the middle of the conversation and ask them to call back at my convenience, particularly given that I also had to pay the vet to call me. I am an excellent mother, but I'm sure anyone who was observing out of earshot would not have thought so.

I'm so sorry you had to receive that call from your vet. It's the kind of news none of us are ever prepared to hear. Cancer is an awful, horrible, terrible beast of a thing. I don't know when this happened or what came of it, but I hope you're hanging in there. 💜

we do this. It's meme sharing. Also I've discovered it's much easier to speak to two or more people at the same time without getting confused, in writing.

It is usually the kid on the tablet and the parents trying to get them to do literally anything else.

Not just parents, but also young kids. I see two girls walking down the street, both on their phones instead of talking and laughing with each other.

Social surrogacy is the bane of the world, not just for us, in the U.S. The face-to-face exchange of ideas and life's happenings has almost disappeared. It's heart-breaking to see social surrogacy, when children are concerned. People are living in a virtual world, especially our young people. This evolution is (at once) tragic and appalling.

Happens all the time in usa. Kids being ignored like this. If they get too annoying for the parents they will give them thier own phone/tablet at a VERY young age to leave them alone. I am 33 and my time period was the last era where parents took care of us

This is so sad but also, unfortunately, so true! The emotional disconnection is real and it is hurting our children and the whole of society really. :-(

Even MORE tragic, is that the innocence, dependence, vulnerability, helplessness, & defenselessness of children is WELL KNOWN to the VERMIN WHO PREY UPON THEM. They are *always* watching, scheming, manipulating & waiting for their opportunities to strike. If parents are not diligently FOCUSED upon their child, chances are tragically high that *some predator IS.* "Parents" whose eyes are not on their babies, & who are not holding their hands (figuratively &/or literally) may well find that their child is suddenly GONE. That poor child could well end up abused, SA'd, trafficked, t*rtured, m*rdered...or even "just" lost (possibly never found), drowned, hit by a car, hurt, even killed, in some kind of accident. It is horrific enough that these horrors can befall children EVEN WHEN they are diligently, carefully, conscientiously defended, protected, & parented. Why up the risks??? 💔

Even MORE tragically, children are COMPLETELY innocent, vulnerable, helpless, defenseless, & dependant on their parents. Anyone who prioritizes ANYTHING above their CHILD(REN) is committing an atrocity. To fail to PRIORITIZE one's CHILD, & THEIR HEALTH, SAFETY, WELL-BEING, & NEEDS, & to meet those needs for safety, protection, stability, care, defense, teaching, guidance, discipline, encouragement, nurturing, nourishment, support, Love, attention, & CHERISHMENT--in ANYTHING but the most careful, responsible, accountable, conscious, conscientious, mindful, diligent, & excellent manner of which one is possibly capable--has failed at what matters most. Such "parents" really should not have children. None of us is perfect ( including & especially me!)--but to fail to do your ABSOLUTE BEST for your kids is inexcusable. 💔

So tragic in EVERY level, & for SO MANY REASONS. 💔 Not only is that child being neglected, ignored, & rejected--for a stupid screen, their parents are missing out on the very short & precious time that parents have with their sweet baby. That "baby" will be an adult & GONE, before they know it. One can never retrieve, nor make-up-for time & opportunity they lost with their child--time to BOND WITH, nurture, nourish, teach, guide, discipline, encourage, appreciate, get to know & understand, set an example for, CARE FOR, cherish, & ENJOY, & LOVE their precious child. That time was thrown away. Those opportunities were THROWN AWAY. That child was rejected, abandonned, ignored, betrayed, & thrown away, in real, serious, & meaningful ways. "Parents" like this are throwing away the most precious Gift, purpose, blessing, opportunity, & Joy that they will EVER be afforded. For some memes, cat videos, political ranting, or whatever meaningless nonsense people do on social media.

SMH The birth of my son was a very real miracle. I don’t understand parents who can ignore their kids or chuck them out of the house for something that should not be more important than loving their child(ren) unconditionally. If I saw this irl like Dun Dun, my heart would hurt so bad it makes me cry.

I have seen this one multiple times and it infuriates me as well. There was a little boy no older than probably 2.. Him and his mom were at the park and she literally had her head under a sweater Because it was Sunny ,looking at her phone while her little boy played in a mud puddle by himself.. So sad.

This makes me so sad. We make specific times for no device zones. Went to the park the other day and left my phone at home since it's walking distance. So many parents were on their phones at the park. You miss so much when you're not focused on what's happening right in front of you.

Bored Panda also reached out to the artist to find out a little bit more about her and her work.

"I am a storyteller who tells most of her stories in her comics and animations. I started my art journey as an animator and cartoonist twenty years ago. My focus was on making animation for years. Since 2015, I have been professionally drawing editorial cartoons. I had so many stories in my mind waiting to be created, but animating all of them needed lots of years, so I chose comic style to tell my stories faster."

"Maybe the main characteristic of mine has led me to create such art: a humoristic outlook and thinking about the feelings of other people, for example, how does a kid feel under bombardment. Those help me to create a humorous story and then tell it in the shape of a comic, cartoon, or animation."

Google translation of her post on Instagram: For my mother and aunts ... My mother and aunts spent many years of their lives behind the carpet, from childhood to the years they experienced motherhood. The weavers built a ladder to bring themselves and their families to what they are now and will be. I'm proud of having such strong women in my life. Women who, believing in better tomorrows, bought the hardest and continue to buy ... Your hard-working hands are the most beautiful hands ....

Literally happened to a friend. Her house was older and NOT in a flood zone. Developer put in condos that caused her property to periodically flood when it rained. It was loveable until hurricane Irma came through and her house got 4 ft of water in it. No flood insurance (because again, NOT IN A FLOOD ZONE), but homeowner's insurance refused to pay because it was a flood event. Turns out the permits for the condos were illegally issued because it was pretty clear what works happen to the properties on the downward slope of the ground they built up to build the condos, bus sure couldn't find an attorney to take the case to sue the county and the contractor for the damage.
