It's no secret that Americans do things a little differently from the rest of the world. But, as the first European colony to win independence, they've had lots of time to form the unique identity we associate with them today. So let's take a few moments to celebrate all the quirky and ridiculous little things that make the USA what it is, even if we still fail to understand them.

When the United States broke away from the rest of the European world in 1783 following the American Revolutionary War, a cultural shift began that is still developing today. Though the lands we now know as America mostly share a history of British occupation, tea and crumpets have long been replaced by coffee and donuts. America has given the world countless gifts, such as rock music, groundbreaking cinema, and New York City - in fact, it's probably the most culturally recognizable place on Earth. Still, for those of us on the outside looking in, the United States sometimes seems like a bit of a circus.

Scroll down to see some of America's funniest moments on Tumblr and how the rest of the world reacted. Don't take it personally, though - we've still got love for Yankee Land! (h/t)

Canada is literally cooler. Well, maybe not cooler than Alaska....

Ha - just have a look at Nunavut. Also - even though it is on the same land mass as Canada, Alaska was taken by the native Inuit peoples and used for fur trade by Russia in 1733 until 1867 when The US bought it.

True. I'm generalizing, but a lot of the ones I've come across are quite rude, especially to employees at restaurants and stores and stuff. It's very strange.

I am so glad I live in the UK. Free health care, nicer people. Oh, except Boris Johnson. He let the whole country down. Oh and by the way I am slightly offended by the tea thing... We are not all cockney chavs or posh nobs

I love the Kinder Egg reference. Know why they are banned in America? You can't put toys in food because they're afraid kids will eat them, even when it's a big hollow egg with a huge capsule inside that's too big to be a choking hazard.

Upsetti spaghetti, it is not Italian but USA terms. So the flag is pretty wrong.

BOO! This is nothing like any of these countries. Maybe the U.S. being confrontational...

At 18 you can be married, drive a car, go into huge debt, vote, and die for your country but you're not responsible enough to buy beer. *Face Palm*

Germans: Duh, this Autobahn section has a 130 km/h speed limit. Americans: wow, this freeway allows 100 km/h!

Except that a bunch of Americans hate Bill for being and atheist and because he tells them that science is correct instead of the BAHBLE.

Yeah I live 5 minutes from Freedom high school. Conviently located 30 minutes south of Washington DC in Northern VA. My middle school was named after Mills E. Godwin, a man who lobbied to keep schools segregated. (They recently voted to rename the school)Not too surprising though.
