It's no secret that Americans do things a little differently from the rest of the world. But, as the first European colony to win independence, they've had lots of time to form the unique identity we associate with them today. So let's take a few moments to celebrate all the quirky and ridiculous little things that make the USA what it is, even if we still fail to understand them.

When the United States broke away from the rest of the European world in 1783 following the American Revolutionary War, a cultural shift began that is still developing today. Though the lands we now know as America mostly share a history of British occupation, tea and crumpets have long been replaced by coffee and donuts. America has given the world countless gifts, such as rock music, groundbreaking cinema, and New York City - in fact, it's probably the most culturally recognizable place on Earth. Still, for those of us on the outside looking in, the United States sometimes seems like a bit of a circus.

Scroll down to see some of America's funniest moments on Tumblr and how the rest of the world reacted. Don't take it personally, though - we've still got love for Yankee Land! (h/t)

At 18 you can be married, drive a car, go into huge debt, vote, and die for your country but you're not responsible enough to buy beer. *Face Palm*

I guess these things give digestion problems and obesity just from looking at them.

I'm sure the toilette looks like the typical gore American horror film after eating even one of this. They still might be tasty, but I wouldn't be brave enough. You gotta have the guts for this.

I'm from the New York area and I wouldn't eat these if I saw one. I can't imagine sweet and salty together. Yuck.

Hey, don't knock it 'til you try it, they say. While I realize that these cannot hope to approach the delectability of a pork jelly meatpie, these, with the juxtaposition of the sweet donuts and the savory beef being buffered by the cheese and augmented by the salty bacon. I, for one, would eat the f**k outta that s**t.

As an American, I can confirm that these look utterly disgusting and that goes for ALOT of 'American foods'.

I can't believe some people look at those things and be tempted to eat it. It looks like something that was half-digested and thrown up by an alien.

There are more Americans who won't eat those than there are who will. ... BTW, the inventor is not an American.

Yeah I live 5 minutes from Freedom high school. Conviently located 30 minutes south of Washington DC in Northern VA. My middle school was named after Mills E. Godwin, a man who lobbied to keep schools segregated. (They recently voted to rename the school)Not too surprising though.
