Well, they don't know what exactly happened to her for that decade, but it is quite possible another family took her in. In fact, Abbey could have run away from THEM and gotten lost. I agree. This story just has something odd about it...

Well, according to the story in the link, the dog was microchipped by the original owner. If there is no information about any other family, then they would return her to the family that had her chipped. The place that she showed up at was a third party house, who contacted the police, who in turn, contacted an animal shelter. It seems that everyone did everything the way it should have been done, and the story doesn't mention anyone else showing up to claim the dog, or even reporting her missing. What else should have been done, under these circumstances?

So why didn't the family that found this 'stray pup get her micro checked? They are the bad ones here not the original family. And they didn't just split them up. The dog turned up at another house near the first owners of its own accord.

You are missing the point of this story. Wouldn't you be ecstatic if a dog you lost/ went missing after ten years. True someone else had to be taking care of her. But all of the details aren't in the story. May have been a perfectly happy ending.

Well, it could be the other way round: now she is old her "adoptive" family did not want her anymore and throw her out. One never knows...

Many vets will scan for a chip on a found animal at no charge as well

Good that she was cared for, but why didn't they have her checked for a chip?
