Family Gets A Shock Of A Lifetime When Their Dog Returns After Disappearing 10 Years Ago

There are many stories of pets going missing and finding their way back to their owners, but the story of a black labrador Abby is something unique and beautiful.

10 years ago, Debra Suierveld, the owner of Abby, together with her children were playing with the one-year-old pup in the backyard of their home in Apollo, Pennsylvania. At some point, the dog ran off, and even though the family searched everywhere for her, she was nowhere to be found. After some time searching with no luck, the heartbroken family declared Abby dead.

But this wasn’t the end of this story. 10 years later, Abby showed up on a porch of a house 8 miles away from her owner’s house. She was brought to a shelter, where the dog was identified based on the information in her microchip that the Suiervelds had implanted back when she was a pup.

Debra was taken by surprise when she got a call that her dog was found and called it a miracle.

It’s unknown where the dog was for all these years, but it’s so amazing to know, that Abby back at her loving home.

Wait...so they just reclaimed this pupper after all that time? She doesn't know she was lost and what about the folks that raised her for all those years?? They just split them all up? I don't like this story one bit.

Well, they don't know what exactly happened to her for that decade, but it is quite possible another family took her in. In fact, Abbey could have run away from THEM and gotten lost. I agree. This story just has something odd about it...

So we don't even get to know what happened to the dog for the last 10 years? :( Great she'll already, of course.

I hate the possibility that a family took her in without even checking for a chip. Never do that, lost pet owners are heartbroken and the first thing you should do when you find a dog is take it to the vet and check for any health problems/a chip or some sort of identification.

This is so adorable... Maybe someone took care of the dog while it was gone

Good that she was cared for, but why didn't they have her checked for a chip?

The one year old pup JUST RAN OFF? Because it was not in a fence? Because it was not wearing collar with tags? This dog has a real owner that lover her for 10 years. These people do not deserve a dog, it seems.

Clearly this dog was being cared for somewhere else for all those years. They need to try and find the real owners. It'd be one thing if their puppy was stolen, but someone found a lost dog and took it in as their own. They deserve to get her back.

If somebody found a lost dog, why didn't they take it to a vet or a shelter and have it checked for a chip? It takes a moment and costs nothing.

Thank you for sharing this. I'm so happy to know your dog came back. Its heartbreaking when your pet runs away or dissappears. Just know to never give up hope. They will return! :)

Yeah, she used to be brown with white spots and now she's black, but at least we got her back. Sadly, a lady down the street lost her brown and white dog. But I told her to never give up. I'm sure her dog will return someday. Ours did.

This dog is proof that dogs are perfectly fine living outside.

I wonder why this comment gets so many downvotes. Are people afraid that their dogs don't need them?
