I Took A Vintage Train Across Canada. You Might Notice Something Unusual About The Train…
I wanted to take a coast-to-coast journey across Canada in a way that had never been seen before. To give a fresh perspective to the journey I decided to take the train. It’s not just any train, but rather the legendary 1959 passenger train that was first to be called “The Canadian.”
The train has an unexpected feature: I carry the train rather than it carrying me. The train is only 2-inches tall.

Share on Facebookyou got me !! well done !! I really thought at first sight that it was a real train. bravo !!
It's amazing. The picture I post is of a guy in Stilbaai, South Africa's HO scale train set. It runs through three rooms in his house. It is very realistic. Chris-trein-11.jpg
From the thumbnail I clicked I also thought it was a real train, after reading the intro paragraph I bursted out in laughter - this has got to be the most nerdy thing any photographer has done. The photos turned out awesome though, but I'm not sure if I this gives me any idea of what Canada is like.
Was it an HO gauge train? Looks like you had fun laying the track before you put the trains on! I like the way you made use of natural tunnel entries and things like that!
Hi Rosemary, you're right, it is an HO scale train. Laying the track is actually the biggest challenge of these photographs. It is difficult to find a flat enough surface in nature to lay the tracks. That said, it is fun, the way that solving a puzzle is fun. Thanks for your comment!
Load More Replies...Didn't fool me but then I'm Canadian and have lived and visited various places from Quebec City (in the east) to Vancouver (in the west). Traveled from Montreal to Vancouver by train too so I know the route isn't what's shown. But that doesn't mean this series isn't good. It's GREAT!
We're just building a new garden and I would love to have a train - but actually working - going around in the garden for my little grandsons to watch. Now all I have to do is convince my husband to build it. By the way, an excellant idea you had there. :)
You sure fooled me, well up until the Cathedral grove in British Columbia, then I'm like "waaaaaaaaaaaait"
This is the best travel photography idea i have seen! Amazing idea! Such a fairy tale! Love it!
Thank you for sharing this. For once this is not Lego or Stormtroopers :). This is brilliant and poetic. Love it. I wished I had the idea ;)
"I carry the train". I only read it once I've done with seeing every picture. Very good!
Well it's a well traveled train even if it is only a toy train. The scenery was lovely in all of the provinces it visited.
You gave me new idea for my future photografic challenge . Thank you !!!
Thanks, Adrian. It is a Rapido train. Good spotting!
