This adorable pup named Milo is a 2-year-old Nova Scotia duck tolling retriever. Milo is a gentle giant. How gentle, you may ask? Well, his best friends are monarch butterflies that live in his garden.

Recently, Milo’s owner posted a video of him with a butterfly wreath in a Twitter group called We Rate Dogs and it got a bunch of love! Right now, it has about 2.2 million views, 50k shares, and 230k likes. People love the unique friendship they have and that Milo doesn’t harm the butterflies at all.

The owner Jennifer Bennett shared with Bored Panda: “I had a dog before Milo named Boden who passed away and Milo is his nephew. Milo was 10 weeks old when he joined our family. He is very self-confident, loves nature, hiking, and cooking. We also raise monarchs, so they are always in the garden, and Milo’s very used to having them around.”

They also keep chickens in their backyard, so Milo has other friends he can play with too.

Milo even has his own cooking channel on YouTube, where he makes delicious treats that are, of course, suitable for dogs to eat. So if you have a good pupper at home who deserves some home-cooked delicacies or just want to see an adorable doggo make food, go check out his channel! Milo’s owner said: “He is a professional chef with his own cooking show called ‘Drooling For Treats.’ His next episode is going to feature his butterfly friends where he makes pumpkin dog cookies cut into butterfly shapes.”

“My favorite thing about Milo is how loving and caring he is. He always makes sure everyone is doing well. Even when you feed him a meal, he will come over to you in the middle and give you a kiss as a thank you. He’s done that since he was a tiny puppy,” said Milo’s owner when asked what their favorite thing about Milo is. They also mentioned that Milo didn’t need any special training to be gentle with the butterflies: “He was a born butterfly king.”

Let us tell you more about Nova Scotia duck tolling retrievers. They are pretty big dogs: their size ranges from 18 to 21 inches for males and 17 to 20 inches for females, and they weigh from 35 to 50 pounds. These retrievers’ lifespan ranges from 10 to 14 years. They need a lot of exercise, like hiking or hunting, and they love to swim, hence the “duck retrieving” part. The owner shared some of Milo’s favorite hobbies: “Milo loves to cook his own treats. His favorite ingredients are peanut butter and carrots. He also loves to hike and play at the beach. Any place he can run around and have fun.”

Here’s some info about Milo’s best friends. Monarch butterflies are one of the most recognizable butterfly species out there. Their orange, black-laced wings with white dots are often what comes to mind when you think of these unique insects. These beautiful creatures live from six to eight months and their size is from 3.7 to 4.1 inches.

Milo’s owners explained why they raise monarch butterflies: “We raise monarch butterflies to help grow their population. There are a lot of predators that can kill the caterpillars, so we try to help them through their stages and release them when they are butterflies. Milo loves it! We have so many butterflies in the garden.”

“Milo is a natural model. He loves getting pictures taken of him. He will find beautiful spots and stop for pictures. Like he will stand in the middle of a flower field and wait for a picture.”

“Milo is going to have his own butterfly calendar coming out soon with tips on how you can raise them yourself.”

How do you go about raising Monarch butterflies?! I'm curious, maybe I could start?

You can buy kits online for breeding them, do a search on google :) You'll get a kit, some caterpillars or chrysalises, and information all about how to raise them :)
