It's hard to impress people who spend a lot of time on the internet. However, one subreddit manages to catch the attention of even the most degenerate, I mean, experienced users.

It's called 'Mildly Interesting,' and it's full of super long puppy whiskers, creative glass designs, rare genetic conditions, and other captivating things its members came across in everyday life.

Sure, the pictures might not be as crazy as the ones posted on 'Oddly Terrifying,' but they don't have to be shocking to make an impression.

Products from a Safeway store in the USA. The food banks here are actually very good, if you'll go to the trouble to go to one. You can go any working day here and get food at the donation center. That bread is expensive, as are the Jimmy Dean pork products in boxes.

The downside to getting fresh produce from food banks is that it’s often close to expiration date and go bad before it can be consumed. It was a problem I often had when I was homeless. It inspired me to start a farm to provide specifically for local food banks. We have donated over 30 million pounds of fresh produce in 15 years.

Because a lot of people in food poverty are also in fuel poverty. Meaning that they can't afford to put the stove on to cook potatoes or rice.

PSA: If you have the time / ability - consider volunteering at a local food bank. If you live near grocery stores there is a good chance you have at least one. Locally I can think of three but I think there are more. SO MUCH food goes to waste in the USA. Or if you do canning / preserve food - ask about being on a call list for times they have an over abundance of some fruit or vegetable. Source: I was on the board (and volunteer) of a local food charity for several years and involved with the pickups from the stores and the distribution. Often we had more of something than we could give away.

A lot goes to waste because people think that anything approaching the “best before” or “sell by” date means its apparently bad and they trash it.

This is all well and good as long as you don't have severe food allergies or celiac disease. People always tell me to go to a food bank, 2/3 of my family is celiac and this is why I can't go to a food bank, They hand you a box of food that they pick, this would kill 2 of us.

WOW! That is luxury items compared to the food banks we go to in my area. We don't ever even see any items resembling the ones you've displayed in your pictures here. No produce, dinners or bread at all. We are happy to get what we do but the stuff you show is not even close to what we have ever seen. I guess without a car, our choices are pretty limited

what do you usually receive? it's clear that the picture is made for propaganda, and the reality is totally different.

Food banks saved us when I was OOW for two years. Got the most fantastic things, including fancy mushrooms diapers, dog food, and whole thanksgiving dinners. I shared with my sister too, who was too proud to go, but not too proud to share my haul.

They might have a big family? And if you’re hungry and don’t have money, bread is a good filler.

I volunteered in a local food bank a few years ago. The ugly truth is there would be a riot at most food banks if this was on offer. The vast majority want junk food, mac and cheese, spaghetti sauce, cookies etc. They'd see the arugula and throw it in your face, along with the multi-grain bread, the cauliflower, the celery etc.

Most? Vast majority? No one I know who has been to food banks wants that c**p, and none of the ones I have been to distribute mostly junk. Throwing food at the staff and volunteers is a good way to get banned from all the services they offer.

my guidance councilor in elementary school (only a couple year ago 😅) started a food bank and bought an old lighthouse but here’s the good part- the guy selling it sold it for o my one dollar once he realized what she was buying it for, my school would fundraise for it too and my mom brought in so much food like if my grade was bringing mashed potato’s she would but abt 50 boxes that year (and i have two siblings so x3 that number)

I'm not religious but I give a modest amount each month to the Salvation Army as I feel they will distribute it honestly. Also give to the local food bank.

Our local food banks require you to show proof of income in order to get food from them. If you are above a certain point, they turn you away. And they don't give nearly as much!

Sure hope I never need to use a food bank, since I’m gluten intolerant. I can’t eat that much bread!
