Different hair types have different needs I"m afraid. I've tried every suggested product on the market and I still have to wash my hair daily to avoid it becoming an oil slick...I also shed like a goldie .

Esca, have you tried dry shampoo? :D (PS I saw that someone further down has recommended baby powder? Also clay powder or corn-starch based powders are an alternative? Just remembered that an Ethiopian woman friend of mine in Canada had an assortment of dry shampoos for sale in her beauty supply shop).

Try different shampoos and maybe don't use conditioner every time or at all, but if you do just put it on the ends. Good luck!

I've been switching shampoos and completely got rid of conditioner T_T And I shed like a golden retriever T_T I'm considering shaving my head bald at this point, but thank you gorgeous T_T

@Esca, hair can be trained. Right now it's trained to be washed every day. Try to go a couple of days without washing. I know it would be hard at first but trust the process! After that, you can go for longer periods, like 3-4 days. It's ok if it gets a little greasy, the hair actually needs that oil to keep the moisture.

I tried this during the summer when I didn't have to see a lot of people, but it didn't improve. Once the semester started, I had to go back to washing every day because it looked disgusting otherwise.... @troufaki13 and @Nela Rothenbach, I'll try again during quarantine since I just lost my job. Hopefully I'll get different results...

@Esca Sav- I highly recommend trying Verb Ghost Shampoo and Conditioner. Hands down, the best hair duo I’ve ever used. It’s a miracle. My hair use to need a daily washing. Now I go 3-4 days without a wash. Verb products are a bit expensive. It’s $36 USD for the set but definitely worth the price.

Have you tried not to wash it for a longer period of time? I've heard that by washing too often you irritate your skin which is why you have to wash more often. The idea was to not wash for a longer period of time (quarantain would have been a good time) so the skin can calm down and regulate itself again. Not sure if that works.

When you wash your hair every single day or every single time you shower, your hair "learns" to react to that by producing natural oil more quickly than normal. Your hair (and your body) wants to stay naturally soft and young, so when you wipe off all the natural oil from your hair (and your body as well) it reacts by producing oil. So... when you do that very repeatedly, your body learns to produce oil very fast, and it isn't good for your hair or your body. It dries it out. So... if you washed your hair less frequently, your hair will learn to produce oil less quickly. At least that's how I understand it. I did notice a difference when I washed my hair less frequently. It did feel very oily the first few weeks, but after a while it wasn't so bad. So, just give it time and it won't feel so oily after the first day of not washing it. Washing your hair every single day is very bad for your hair because it dries your hair out too much.

Esca, you might want to try an after shampoo hair oil or serum, instead of using conditioner. It works for my oily and crazy hair. Garnier Sleek and Shine works well

My hair is thin and oily so it looks best washed everyday. 45 years of this and my hair is still full and healthy. That dry shampoo was awful.

every person's hair is different. for example, I can only use cold water to wash my hair every 2 days. since I can only use hot water to bathe, they become two separate events even when I am washing my hair and taking a bath on the same day. so just keep doing what works for u!

My hair is the same. I gotta wash it every day or it gets oily. If you do have super oily hair, washing it everyday shouldn't harm it.

Your hair gets oily every day because you remove its necessary oils every day with your shampoo, so your skin compensates. As others have said, if you gradually extend the periods between washing it will get better, but it does require patience and some creative styling (headbands, braids, etc.) Good luck!

@Kendra MIller apple cider vinegar is excellent for keeping your hair healthy and soft, i'd do a 1:1 mix of acv and water and dump it on my head at the end of my shower, it gave me gorgeous, healthy hair that i was able to grow out and eventually donate when i got tired of taking care of it!
