The stereotype that only women like to hear compliments is still alive and well today. Research shows that women receive more compliments than men in general. When people compliment women, it's most often about their looks and appearance. Men, in turn, receive compliments about their skills, competence, and abilities.

While compliments might make some people cringe (especially when they're not appropriate), they generally make us feel good. Apparently, receiving a compliment lights up the same part of our brain as when we get a monetary reward.

Naturally, guys would like to get that feeling too, right? To show that they like receiving compliments just as much as women, one netizen asked guys online: "Men of Reddit, what was the last compliment you got? When was it?" This gave lots of guys the opportunity to boast about the times they were flattered and maybe even blushed a little when receiving a particularly nice compliment.

50 Compliments Men Got That Stuck With Them I had a phone call with my younger sister the other day and I suppose her boyfriend was there and he overheard the convo.

He said that I have a safe voice that lacked hatred and anger. I have never heard that before and now that makes me want to become a person that radiates that in all my ways.

Wow. "Lacked hatred and anger" - this is just speculation, but perhaps he comes from a dysfunctional/ toxic environment. It is only then when you truly appreciate safety and lack of hatred/ anger.

50 Compliments Men Got That Stuck With Them My wife told me that she seriously appreciates me preparing her lunch for the day so that when she wakes up, it’s ready to go and that it makes a huge difference in her life. Then she gave me a hug and a smile.

    I love my wife.

I work a swing shift, so I go to bed around 2:00 to 3:00 AM. So when she’s asleep, I tend to meal prep a little. I take extreme satisfaction in knowing that I am impacting her in a largely positive way.

Strange how we find this cute and all, but when a woman prepares her husband lunch for work, there's always comments like she's oppressed or "he can prepare his own lunch" etc. Some people genuinely enjoy cooking for their SO.

It IS SO SWEET! I used to be a sub. I still work in the education field, but haven't worked as a sub for 5 years now. While at the store yesterday, one of the clerks I was working with stopped and said, "You don't remember me, do you?" Turns out I had subbed for his class over 10 years ago and he remembered me. He would have been in elementary school then, but somehow I made an impression, as a SUBSTITUTE, that he remembered me a decade later. It made me feel wonderful!

I had the opposite. I dated a guy who was a chemist with a PhD. I remember him saying on his first day at a new job that he made sure to tell all the people who didn't have a PhD that he didn't think any less of them. He was a piece of work sometimes, but mostly he was fun. Anyway, on our first date, I told him I was a software developer. That's like saying you're a lawyer. Actually, it's even a much bigger variety. I never said what type of software or what my company did. He just interrupted to talk about work he'd done with high powered computers. Fine. I don't much like talking about my job. We never once, NEVER ONCE, had an intellectual conversation. I think he thought I wasn't very bright, based on many little things. I remember saying if I'd known they pay you to get your PhD, I maybe would have considered it. He said, "Well, it's not like just anyone can do it." I think he'd have been surprised to know that I was a National Merit Finalist (without a lick of studying).

FYI, National Merit Finalist is when you do very well on your PSATs and SATs. I'm not trying to brag about anything. I'm mostly an idiot, but I was quite smart academically. in addition, I have a knack for taking tests. I'm a great guesser. It just chews my chaps to this day that this guy acted this way. We didn't date long.

Felt this needs to be addressed as its a concern. You comment suggests that you may have trouble about your existence. You need to learn and discover who you are and what you want to be. How you do thst is up to you but people are generally turned off people who don't like themselves much. You are important, learn to embrace that, the rest will come

I got carded for alcohol until I started going gray in my 40's (early gray runs in my family). At 61, I'm still not totally gray though. My hair is this weird gray/silver in front and halfway back and then the back is still this kind of blondish-brown. My sisters, including the one just a bit younger than me, were all totally gray by their early 50's. Genetics are weird.

50 Compliments Men Got That Stuck With Them Was minding my business while grocery shopping one afternoon. In my head, probably thinking about work or something. A pretty woman who looked at least 15 years younger than me approached me while I was at the self checkout and asked me if I was single. I was completely dumbfounded. Took a few seconds to realize what was happening. I lifted my hand to show my ring and she left. The attendant at the store approached me to say he has never seen that happen before. We slapped high five and I’ve been living off that for about the last three years.

50 Compliments Men Got That Stuck With Them About a year ago, I was seeing a girl who turned out to be heavily traumatized. One day, she texted me "You're insatiably sweet and feel like everything that is good in the world." When I was studying at the university, I was at a lake one day. I was in my early 20. I had to cross the dam of a hydro power plant to get there. When walking back, a guy from behind me started talking to me. Maybe a couple of years older.

He asked if I knew where the nude bathing area was. I told him that it was a bit down the path on the other side of the lake. He then asked me if I was doing something this evening.

I paused for a moment and said "Sorry, but I am not gay". He also paused and said:

"That's a shame, because you are really sexy."

That was about 20 years ago.

Yesterday, my wife said she likes my butt. That was probably the last one.

Isn't it awesome when straight men feel flattered by compliments from gay men instead of turning into quivering knots of discomfort, suspicion, hate, contempt, nervousness and/or disgust? Unfortunately, I've seen the latter happen more than once, and it's about time it becomes a thing of the past.

Double or triple upvote. I silently feel bad when I see posts that say "My kids..." or "My son.... It seems to me (since wives are often the only ones with social media sites) that they should be saying "Our kids" and "Our son". If you want your husband to be a big part of his children's lives, you must do the little things to include him.

50 Compliments Men Got That Stuck With Them Depends on if it's physical or emotional

Physical was 14th of December 2023, One of my classmates complimented my outfit saying I look great and well put together

Emotional was yesterday I spent the entire semester helping all of my classmates in college study making them guides answering questions and giving out free lectures, yesterday was results day so I got praised by anyone that passed the semester and they all passed I made sure of it.

Men really need an emancipation! Women are wearing pants now and are „allowed“ to wear all colors and work in „male“ jobs etc but men are still being discriminated against, when they like „feminine“ things. Equal rights for men!

Not the last one but one that keeps me up at night.

I was new in the city, walking down the street, minding my own business.

I stop at the crosswalk. The green light turns on, everyone gets moving. Suddenly mid-crossing the street, this gorgeous young lady gently grabs my arm, looks at me, smiles and drops the bomb 'I love your smell".

I froze right there, blushing, stuttering "uh...uh...th..thank you". Passes a second, she waves and leaves.

Maybe I should have said something more? Maybe compliment her back? I cringe, for I will never know.

I think your genuine response made her day. I love giving compliments to strangers (I just don't grab them physically), and it's such a great feeling when you see their face light up and you know you've made a difference for them that day, at least. Typically, I make it a point to compliment people in customer service and related jobs who are doing a good job. I'm sire they get a lot of anger and frustration taken out on them, so I try to balance that out a little :)

Being a nice person is on YOU; most compliments have to do with the genetic lottery of good hair/smile/voice/body/etc., none of which is under your control. Being nice is something YOU did, consciously, and repeatedly over the course of time. It speaks volumes about the quality of your character! (I married a nice person- no regrets!)

Not a bad thing to be! If you're unsatisfied with it, maybe learn to throw knives.

An old joke a co-worker said to me when I told him I grew up on a farm: "Heard about the farmer's daughter? She had trouble keeping her calves together". I liked him... fortunately for him!! 🙂

I believe the world would be a better place if more people would dress flamboyantly - colour brings joy to the world. There's a trend in the UK for brand new expensive brand cars to be shades of grey that look like undercoat or primer and I can't stop thinking those rich tw4ts buying them are sucking joy out of the world for the rest of us.

AGREE so strongly with you re the cars!! Drive along the road and pass 'grey car, grey car, grey, car, black car, white car, grey car...'. Just sold an old pretty blue car and bought a nice cheerful red one. I'd love to see nicer colours on the road - used to be some fantastic blues and greens, some orange. Had to take my car to a dealership yesterday as the rain sensor was messing me about - new cars across the forecourt only one was a nice blue but, yikes, I found it incredibly ugly! Each to their own, maybe some of you might like it... Ugli-Kia-6...f7db85.jpg Ugli-Kia-66b5f26f7db85.jpg

When I was younger most of my shirts were brown or blue, but as I've gotten older I like much more color (even pink and purple).

I’m sure I’m forgetting some but, aside from generic “you look nice” types, I often recall when my ex-wife’s step-dad’s mom complimented my ability to hold a conversation. That was probably 2009.

Some guys get "you're hot" a lot and never get complimented on their character or personality.

    “Zach Galifianakis”.

I had to look up the Zach in question. He looks cuddly and if he's a comedian he's halfway there.

I'm always really vague when I liken someone to an actor, so that they can mentally fill in which actor they think looks good.

Not to be mean to Zach, but I'm not sure that's a complement. Also, kudos to the stock photo pick. That looks EXACTLY like what she's saying.
