There are a lot of discussions going around today about gender norms and roles. People are beginning to defy them more and more, stepping out of their 'traditional roles' and being who they want to be, instead of what society expects them to be. Photographer Nir Arieli from Israel is helping defy these norms by capturing the feminine and gentle side of men.
The photographer started a project where male models pose, look, and present themselves in a gentle, serene, and beautiful way, instead of the usual way men are represented in media. Nir wants to show the vulnerability and emotions in men with his photos.

I wouldn't say he looks feminine, but he is f*****g beautiful!!
"In this project, I try to expose a side in masculinity that I believe was oppressed by society throughout history. Gentleness and vulnerability are beautiful qualities that are not in the exclusive female emotional territory."

don't target long hair. I have long hair I don't know why "boys can't have long hair"
Its stupid. Same as women not being allowed to have short hair.

"Through this work, I try to find these qualities in the men I photograph, open a dialog about them, and remind the viewers that they are allowed to feel free and that they are beautiful when they do so."
The photographer wants to show everyone, not only men, that to be your true self is the most beautiful thing ever.

men arent allowed to cry theyre supposed to be strong and masculine according to just stupid people
Load More Replies...I hate when people say "men don't cry" or "men can't cry" etc. It's so stupid. EVERYONE CRIES.

Get the glitter away from the eyes gettheglitterawayfromtheeyesGET THE GLITTER AWAY FROM THE EYES PLEASE
We have many posts where men express their vulnerable side, femininity, and gentleness. Like this man who proves that clothes have no gender by wearing skirts and dresses. Or this guy who wears heels like nobody's business and proves that they're not only for women. Also, you might be interested in seeing examples of pointless gendering that show how stupid it can be.

Not exactly feminine though, they're two guys kissing 😅 Doesn't really get more masculine
I have one very serious question to ask the photographer. HOW DID YOU NOT GET GLITTER EVERYWHERE? Like, fr! Every time I work with glitter, it ends up in my hair, on my hands, in my ears even!
Nothing is feminine, its society who genders it. Thats the point of the pictures. To show things that society finds feminine.

What do you think of Nir Arieli's project and photographs? What do you think is the idea behind the project? Tell us in the comments the gender roles you run into and how they make you feel. Hopefully, we will one day live in a world where your gender won't define how you have to live your life or express your emotions.

This post isn't about showing feminine sides its about showing a VULNERABLE side

MY SON IS 15 AND IS GAY! DO NOT SPEAK LIKE THAT! HE IS PROUD AND IS DATING A BOY! IT IS NOT GROSS OR CREEPY! YOU ARE VERY RUDE. PLEASE DO NOT DO ANYTHING LIKE THIS AGAIN BECAUSE IT HURTS FEELINGS. I KNOW IT IS YOUR OPINION BUT DO KEEP IT TO YOURSELF? THANKS.

No it is that people think men don't deserve womens love. They are showing how men can love too

Interesting. What about it don’t you like? I saw it as an anatomical pose. Muscle and bone and structure all working together. A powerful statement. I’m honestly curious what you saw?

You know... this pose lets him seam .... nicer? More approachable, "husband material" if you will (I can't find the right word for what I mean). If he did a more "masculine" pose, he would look more macho and like a douche
Just the fact we can get so much out of the juxtaposition of what the pose says and how we view the subject is interesting in itself, no?

Wait, getting dressed/ready in front of a mirror is feminine? I've being doing it wrong all this time..
Yup! From now on you'll have to get dressed looking into a puddle or something.

You can see him thinking to himself about what he looks like in the mirror and whether that is "okay" and you can see his anxiety.

I agree ( can I also say my cousin has a HUGE crush on u Loki and she is excited for your show and sad that u died)
Load More Replies...The point isn't that it is feminine or not. The point is he has a skin condition and most people are too scared to be vulnerable enough to let people see them like this. It isn't "pretty" enough. He is being vulnerable, which while 'normally' portrayed by female subjects, is not about gender.
Amanda has a great point. This isn't feminine but takes courage. We do not see a problem but we all have our insecurities and we are all afraid to show off our bodies. I'm a bigger guy with a belly and have had one since I started taking anti anxiety and depression meds and am very self conscious about it. I would love for it to go away.

Showing deep tenderness is seen as very feminin, and many alphas feel very strongly that it weakens men to be tender and loving, So sad.

<3 is love. This is a great picture. I don't really like the redundant caption tho.
The caption is the same for the whole article, it's the point of the article. I think that the glitter, and the fact that they are showing affection, may be considered "feminine" to society.

Are men not allowed to feel sad or depressed, like i don't understand how this is feminine.
Again. The whole point of the pictures is to show men in poses that society deems feminine. Men showing their emotions is considered feminine. It is not (since gender is an absurd artificial construct) but thats how society sees it.

It isn't. That is the point. It is vulnerable. The fact that these shots are "traditionally" done by females in no way says that they are feminine poses. Just vulnerable ones.
That is considered a very feminine way to lay. "Macho" men would rag on him for laying like that. I've seen it. I've experienced it.

I would have said most of these photos show vulnerability or intimacy, rather than necessarially feminity. Male vulnerability doesn't equate to being feminine - thinking vulnerability or intimacy is 'effeminate' is a trait of toxic masculinity. Unless these models are non-binary, and expressing their feminity, then saying that they're showing 'femininity' isn't helpful - they're showing vulnerability, grace, emotion, beauty, intimacy, gentleness, introspection, spirituality. The lighting and props are more typical of photography using feminine models, but the traits and emotions shown aren't feminine, they're human.
Well the point of the pictures is to show things that society deems as feminine. There is nothing intrinsically feminine or masculine since gender is cultural.
Load More Replies...I don't see all these as being feminine. I see men showing how beautiful they are regardless of the intended audience.
I think that's part of it; we don't usually have the idea that men can be beautiful. You get the occasional beautiful man like Jason Momoa or Idris Elba (ymmv), but as a general rule the best we can be is handsome, and handsome is not beautiful. I wonder sometimes how it affects the average guy having the idea that they will never be attractive the way that women are. Guys with differing experiences, please weigh in
Load More Replies...I find it sad that, in this current time, men are still made to feel that showing emotions like sadness and showing grace etc is feminine (not that there is anything wrong at all with being male and "feminine"). It's human, end of. I thought the photographs were all beautiful personally.
Exactly, there is nothing wrong with being feminine and masculine. Those are all human traits. But it sadly shows how incredibly misogynist society is. Feminine is coded as "woman" and apparently for a man to be like a woman is the "worst" thing. We're still seen as less than for being women.

Soooooooo...every pose that does not look aggressive/dominating/martial is considered "feminine"?
Unfortunately yes. That's what living in a misogynist and patriarchal society is like.

Is it really worth destroying all sense of normality? Men need to be men, and women need to be women; we are not living in a soap opera, "Mel-Wokes Place," the end game here is extinction, not freedom of expression?
