And speaking of therapy, there’s still quite a lot of stigma attached to the idea that someone’s reaching out to a professional for help.
Earlier, Bored Panda spoke about the stigma of seeking professional help with British psychotherapist Silva Neves. He pointed out that, in his opinion, the situation has been improving over time.
“I think it is getting better and there is less stigma seeing a therapist now. It depends on your location though, there are still some parts of the world where therapy is still a taboo. Some people think that seeing a therapist means that you're 'crazy,' but this is not actually what therapy is about," he explained.
I noticed that my days off are way more complex that work days. So much to do and there is no schedule Oo
"Therapy is a confidential and private space where you can get help from a professional with anything that bothers you, from your work problems, relationship issues, or other psychological problems such as post-trauma stress, depression, and anxiety," the therapist said.
"Those things are actually very common and many people struggle with these things, it doesn't mean they're ‘crazy.’ Seeing a therapist when you have emotional struggles should be as normal as seeing your doctor when you have a physical problem. But at the moment, our society hasn't normalized therapy yet. It is changing with famous people talking about the benefits of therapy such as Lady Gaga and Prince Harry,” the therapist told Bored Panda.
Therapist Silva said that some people who have deep-seated insecurities can lash out at others to make themselves feel better. However, with proper self-compassion and learning to accept themselves as they are, they can develop a new, healthier mindset.
“Insecurity can manifest either by making themselves invisible (If I'm not seen, nobody will notice my flaws) or the opposite, by what we call 'bragging': shouting at everybody about how wonderful they are. This is usually to try to persuade themselves that they are good enough,” he said.
"Another way to counter the 'I'm not enough' [mentality] is by pushing others down, sabotaging other people's success, or attacking people as a way to feel powerful so that they can control their inner pain of 'I'm not enough,’” he said.
“All of these strategies don't work because what they do is either internalizing or externalizing the belief 'I'm not enough' rather than changing it," Silva explained.
Nah. It's probably the season where the main character winds up in a coma. You know, to "add drama."
"The key to becoming more secure is to change the underlying belief 'I'm not enough' to 'I'm enough,'" the therapist told Bored Panda.
"Perhaps parents didn't praise children enough, or they paid more attention to the mistakes rather than the successes. As an adult now, people can give themselves a hug once in a while and tell themselves, gently: 'you're doing good,' 'well done,' 'congratulations.' Eventually, the brain will listen and slowly change the message 'I'm not enough' to 'I'm enough,'" he said that everyone can try to overcome their insecurities.
"Rather than shouting your praise at other people, it is about speaking to yourself in a loving way. When people are genuinely aware of their successes, they can become genuinely more confident without the need to impose their power onto others."
If you can't handle me at my worst, I don't care if you're made of love, you're in for a really bad time
2023: If I'm fiscally savvy, I can save up to buy a cardboard box and furnish the ditch I'm living in, while I work three jobs and dumpster dive for food. Ah yes, the American Dream!
I'm not diagnosed but maybe I have this. I'm always super bored in classes (whether I like the class or not) and either do the work before they're done explaining it, or am too bored to do it.
Load More Replies...Not bored, though. Just that the iMax movie with surround sound that's playing in my head is much more interesting.
Did this the other day. I finished the entire warmup page for the week in 10 minutes while teacher was saying how to do it, and then during the actual assignment my brain stopped working and I didn't complete the assignment because my brain was pingponging so badly I couldn't read the task cards.
I'm the first one, especially in Math. My teachers check my work, then Theirs still 40 minutes left of class. 😑
for me its History, they are like stories. AND I LOVE STORIES
Load More Replies...I don't know if i had/have ADHD, but this was legit me in school, specially the first half, i finished the work so quick teachers had no problems with me spending the rest of the day on the phone. Then high school came and 3 years later and having dropped college i am now depressed :')
I sort of learned the bad habit of catching up on sleep in class during HS (because I was done with the work for that class). It did NOT serve me well in college or beyond.
Load More Replies...I would have read like the entire chapter after in the time they read one page 😔
My teachers would get mad if I worked ahead. Lol. I'm in the high ability class but half the time I know the work so I don't need to listen. It's annoying. LIKE STOP DRONING ON AND ON BRUH
Uh, yeah. If this is your normal experience, you need to figure out a way to get someone to advocate for you having something that dives deeper. If that isn't really possible, find something meaningful to do with your time (you could practice calligraphy while "taking notes" or try different organizational structures, including using multiple colors, or you could try taking notes in another language or you could write down what you already know as the lecture begins or you can learn to write in code or you can try taking notes in iambic pentameter or writing out psudo-code algorithms of the material in the lesson). Practice SOMETHING though because eventually you will get to something actually hard and if the thing you have been practicing is "looking like you are paying attention while just being bored" then it will Not Go Well. Speaking from both personal experience and things I have learned as a professional educator. (Ideally you could get into classes with little or no lecture).
Load More Replies...I got severe anxiety Just thinking about deadline. Thats why my uni school work was Done the day I recieved it or at least a week before deadline. People seriously clapped when my profesor proclaimed that someone already submitted their 3 month Long work yesterday, a week after getting the assignment, while I slowly slid Under the tabule, embarrased
I’m still suffering from adhd which makes me bored easily and makes me feel depressed and isolated 😃
Boredom is why I would leave school to hitchhike to the nearest college to sit in on classes.
Same here. I'm in college now, and it's still just as bad. It never leaves you. Ever.
Social anxiety was enough to keep me locked into the first one 90% of the time all through high school, then in college when I realized nobody cared what I was doing (not immediately, anyway) I promptly made up for list time with the second one.
Back when I was in school I used to get in trouble and points taken off for in class participation because I would always be bored and go ahead and when I got called on I wouldn't know where the rest of the class was so they thought I was just doodling or day dreaming or zoning out. Then I stopped going ahead to try to stay on track but I still got bored and just started doodling or day dreaming or zoning out. I never got a grade higher than a B because I was always marked off for "participation".
I've never been diagnosed but the more people tell me about their experience with adhd the more I think I should talk with my doctor. Just to check.
I've never gone to a doctor about it, but I'm convinced I have at least mild adhd
I walked into PTSD group with my new hair style and the first thing I heard was, "OMG, what happened?" Um... I went to a salon.
I sometimes find myself screaming in my own head. Does that count?
I have never taken so many screenshots from one thread. Title lives up to it's name that's for sure!
I just e-mailed every shrink I know a link to this. :-)
Load More Replies...Have a phonecall appointment next Monday. I've written down my favorites to read to him. That way he'll know that inspite of everything happening right now, I'm really still ok.
This annoys the hell out of me on Bored Panda. I was gonna read this thread earlier today and then it was "100 Funny and relatable...", but now it's just 40?
