Person Running The McDonald’s Twitter Account Shares How Nobody Ever Asks How He’s Doing, Receives Support From Various Famous Brand Accounts

Retail and restaurant work are some of the hardest jobs in the world. It’s not necessarily because of the insane hours and low pay (though that too is an issue) but more because of a particular segment in the business’ client base—the people who have nothing better to do than to be annoying, obnoxious, or flat-out aggressive towards the employees for insignificant things or even for absolutely no reason.

The guy or gal behind the official McDonald’s Twitter account recently had a bit of an emotional meltdown because of this and tweeted a cry for empathy through the official channel. And a vast number of companies and people came out to give some emotional support.

So, around a week ago, the official McDonald’s Twitter account posted what could be called a mini rant mixed in with a plea for empathy. It read: “it’s always ‘when is the McRib coming back’ and never ‘how are you doing, person who runs the McDonald’s account.’”

Now, McDonald’s on Twitter does have a hefty amount of followers—3.6 million, in fact—but I don’t think they ever thought that such a simple request would go a long way.

McDonald’s tweeted a cry for empathy because nobody asked how it’s doing—but Microsoft responded!

It was a brief, but wholesome convo of love and support

One of the first to respond was Microsoft—you know, the ginormous computer software developer founded by the phenomenal Steve J… I mean, Bill Gates.

They posted a simple tweet that acknowledged the McDonald’s social media marketing manager’s existence and showed interest in them: “Dear person who runs the McDonald’s account, how are you doing? All my best, Person who runs the Microsoft account.”

And Microsoft wasn’t the only one to do this as soon a number of other brands jumped in

This led to a very pleasant conversation between the two, with McD’s asking the same and also asking for help with remembering their computer password, to which Microsoft responded that they’d be glad to help. Also, giving a huge shout-out to the McRib.

It wasn’t long until other brands responded to McDonald’s tweet. Starting with xBox, one of Microsoft’s companies, then the likes of Messenger, Instagram, and Facebook, Adobe, Target, HBO, Pantene, and even McDonald’s UK jumped in to share their own gripes and to show support for McD’s!

Some sent their love, others shared what gripes them the most when it comes to people asking questions

Some of the brands included one or two of their own social media management gripes in the tweet. HBO ranted about how everyone’s asking them when House of Dragon is coming out. Facebook complained about everyone asking when dark mode is coming out (it’s out, by the way). IBM is asked when it will start making computers again, and so on and so on.

Heck, even the Foo Fighters responded by saying “Preach. People always yelling ‘Fresh pot!’ and never asking if I’ve cut back.” to which McDonald’s responded “lmk if you need mccafe i can hook you up.”

There was also a crowd of people who just had to get on McD’s nerves one last time by asking “So, when’s the McRib coming back?” after literally being told not to say that. However, there was still a huge chunk of people who actually asked the social media manager how they’re doing. And McD took the time to respond. Wholesome all around.

Needless to say, the tweet went viral. Besides it popping up on sites like Imgur and Reddit, the tweet itself was retweeted almost 15,000 times and got over 130,000 likes.

The entire point of this is to make you think these brands actually have personalities, despite the fact that each tweet is actually written by a team of people and NOT just some lonely person looking for help. This happens so often and I'm shocked more people don't realise it. What kind of fragile snowflake behavior is this? People don't contact companies to see how the employees are doing. If you're that triggered about people not asking you about your feelings when contacting your company, you have no business being in customer support.
