5 Y.O. Gets Told Star Wars Is Not For Girls, Her Mom Asks Twitter, Mark Hamill Gives A Witty Response
Even though it might seem the idea that some things are purely masculine or feminine should be considered quite outdated in the 21st century, apparently not everyone has this same opinion. Furthermore, the ones claiming otherwise are, surprisingly, the youngest members of our society. Take this little boy, for example, who told his 5-year-old classmate that Star Wars is for boys only, after seeing her wearing Star-Wars-themed shoes that she picked out herself. Luckily, Mark Hamill himself had the best answer – Star Wars is for everyone!

I spent 2 1/2 hours in line in Seattle for the original Star Wars opening. I went to each consecutive Star Wars movie on opening weekend. I own every Star Wars movie and bought a full size Boba Fett helmet for $60. I married a man who was totally into Star Wars too. But nah...Star Wars is just for boys...NOT!!!
The helmet I bought being worn by my neighbors grandson... boba-noni-...9a4959.jpg

Well, five-year old said Star Wars are for boys, but who said that to five year old?
Remember, this argument was between 5-year olds. That's the age to have the girls vs boys argument. But if you're still having this argument after you're 5, you need to grow the f**k up.
I love the original trilogy and I am a woman. People need to stop teaching these gender rules to their children because all they do is cause problems. On another note, I also like fairy tales. I bring this up because a lot of people don't want their children reading them anymore.
"My daughter Khaleesi"... lol, a child named after a mass murderer...
I believe that was before the...interesting GoT ending.

I would love to go to America and attend a comic con!! I don't know if I could choose a favourite to be, I'd have to be either ash Ketchum or sakura star lol
Load More Replies...IMH this is a 5 year old kid... no need to get upset for his opinion, you only have to explain things at his level, and he will understand. It's at this age that grownups can make a difference and grow nice people. It's what I do with my two kids. Explain everything.
AGREED! This is a non-story. Kids just say stuff... sometimes just to be jerks because they are still learning how to be people.
Load More Replies...I wonder what makes people say things like that... what makes a freaking movie or whatever the heck it is so gender specific?!? Bruh moment if i've ever had one >v<
A child should have the right to choose what they like to wear, as long as it's not pornographic or in some way inappropriate. I imagine wearing Darth Vader shoes would give a little girl a great sense of power, which she probably needs, going to school with a bunch of bullying boys.
This is from ages ago btw, but Star Wars and every fandom shouldn't be gentler bound. Over the past decade, I've seen a huge increase in the number of girls loving fandoms aimed at boys and vice versa. My fav Star Wars characters are Luke Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, Ahsoka Tano, Sabine Wren, Captian Rex, Ezra Bridger, Hera Sydulla, Han Solo, Commander Wolffe, Commander Cody, Thrawn, Mara Jade, Leia and Steela Gerrera and Saw Gerrera as well as Bo Katan and Satine Kyrze and Cad Bane.
We need to reclaim a sense of humor parents have always had. My daughter demanded PF Flyers when she was 5, because if you wore them you could jump really high. I bought the PF Flyers. I recall a seeing video from a school program with two 5 yr. old children paired to recite Twinkle, Twinkle ... The little boy was not having it; he launched into a rendition of the Star Wars theme. Even Mark Hamill commented; he said the Force was with the boy. These are babies, not adults. That is why we send children to school, to learn and to be socialized. Five year old children still believe in magical things let them have that. Good Grief, Charlie Brown!
This old Army sergeant enjoys seeing SF movies with strong female characters and female leads. I'm also happy to see an egalitarian audience at the movies. Time for those boys to get over it. When they get older, they'll be happy to have a woman in their lives who can share their excitement at attending a good SF movie.
Who the heck is even teaching that boy that Star Wars is just for boys to begin with?
I hate that this is a thing. If we think about Harry Potter. I saved him and Ron so many times I swear.
Why would any girl idolize Barbie over Lea?I cried when I saw the new movies with all the female power characters because boys said the same thing to me when I was a girl. In the 80s, I had no dolls, all the Star Wars action figures, empire strikes back bedsheets and I used every styrofoam packing insert to recreate Hoth and build my own fleet.
of course I'm great w this as long as everyone out there admits that Cinderella is for boys. Seems like everyone is good with girls being tomboys but when boys are.......what's the word?
Toys are for children. End of. Liking a toy that a marketing dept and stupid people deem suitable for the "opposite sex" bears no relation to how masculine or feminine that child is/will be, what it might show if you look past gender BS is what that child finds fun, or important.
Load More Replies...A five year old said it's not for girls and you needed to poll the internet?! A five year old, who probably still struggles with buttoning his own pants and can't identify who the president is and probably also thinks that dogs are boys and cats are girls....but you needed to run to the internet for validation?!
ZOMG, a 5 year old boy said something mean! Because we all know that 5 years olds are uber-compassionate and use their mental filters, right? So, let's everyone have a fit over this!
The point is that five-year-olds don't use their mental filters so if a parent tells them somethings they'll believe it without question.
Load More Replies...I've been a fan for a good 30 years now. Whenever I talked to girls about Star Wars I used to get the same two reactions about 99% of the time: "That's stupid" and "What's a Star Wars ?" What a world it would be, if girls joined the ranks
I wish that everyone would just stop fighting about the women are stronger than men and vice versa. there's so many posts about how women are superior.and its like okay we get it can you shut up?!?! stop clouding the internet with useless women are the strongest posts. women are always saying how unfair men are being while being unfair lol. hypocritical much? also please stop causing so much comotion on the internet I just want to look at my christian meeeeeemmmz. also this is coming from a 12 year old girl. if it had been a man you would have been really mad just now. you speak of equality and yet you still give some sort of privledge to women because now the dumbest things we say are praised and it changes this world in a negative way. not saying men are better but theyve had to listen to our trashy **** for so long give em a break!
I Love the og star wars movies and rogue one. All the other moveis SUCKED!!
Everyone pummeling this five year old boy... he’s FIVE. Lol. If someone said, no it’s for girls too, Mikey, he’s probably be like oh! Okay! 😊 He’s not sexist, he’s FIVE YEARS OLD
And where did he learn it's for boys? This is the time to correct those notions or he's going to pass on this toxicity when he's older. No, he's not sexist, BUT HE'S LEARNING TO BE!
