Manarola is a small fishing village in Liguria, in northern Italy. The city is located on a cliff overhanging the wild coastline of the Ligurian Sea. It is one of five cities that make up the Italian Riviera known as the Cinque Terre. These cities are connected by footpath: Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore. Manarola is the oldest and one of the smallest cities in the five famous Terre. In the center of town there is the church of San Lorenzo, built in 1338.

The western part has a small harbor in the east area, where locals often gather to discuss any important issues. As in many other places in this part of Italy, everywhere grow vineyards, of which make excellent wine.

In the tiny harbor of Manarola there is parking for boats. Magnificent picture form picturesque colorful houses built right on the slopes of the cliff above the gorge. Something like colorful unusual buildings of the famous architect Friedensreich Hundertwasser. Despite the fact that there is no beach – it’s a good place for scuba diving and study of caves and rock crevices. Special staircase is built for water access.

The main fishery is traditionally a fishing and wine. Even in the times of the Roman Empire. Local wine is appreciated for its excellent taste. In recent years, Manarola and other towns of the Riviera have also become very popular with tourists, especially during the summer months. The main attraction here is considered the aforementioned trail connecting all five cities. It is sometimes called the path of love.

Absolutely beautiful! Fits my, admittedly preconceived idea of what a Mediterranean town looks like. Wish I was there.
