Man Climbs Up Hospital Wall And Watches Over His Mom From Outside The Hospital Day And Night Until She Dies Due To Coronavirus

In Palestine, where there are 9,587 confirmed coronavirus cases to this day, a young man named Jihad Al-Suwaiti refused to part with his infected mother.

After his elderly mom was admitted to the hospital for testing positive with the virus, he was not allowed to visit due to safety reasons. But 30-year-old Jihad from Hebron would climb the pipeline and sit outside the hospital window every day to make sure his mother was well and safe.

A hospital official commented: “He spent most of his day there, observing his mother’s condition from outside the window, before coming down when he was convinced that his mother was fast asleep.” Until, last Thursday, his mother Rasma Salama passed away.

The heartbreaking image of the young man watching over his mom fighting the virus was shared by Mohamad Safa and has since spread on social media, touching people around the globe.

Jihad did not give up hope when his mom fell ill with Covid-19 and spent every day by the hospital window watching her fighting the virus

Jihad’s brother Abang Jihad, Rasmi told the media that his brother remained stubborn and despite being banned from entering the hospital due to security reasons, he wouldn’t part with his mother.

“The mother had leukemia and was diagnosed with COVID-19 a few weeks ago,” Abang added.

Mohamad Safa has also made a tribute illustration to Jihad and his deceased mother

Being the youngest child of the family, Jihad was very close to his mother. When he found out that his mom had passed away, he felt angry and in disbelief. “But now he seems to be able to accept the statement,” his brother assured.

Many felt deeply touched by this heartbreaking story

This is a pure example of devotion. I hope he is able to heal with her passing. While I am sure his mother cringed at the thought of him climbing and risking himself to see her, she also knew how much he loved her until the end

This is so sad. I'm sure that he is relieved that she is no longer suffering. My brother passed away in May due to heart failure. His family was not allowed to visit with him in his last days. I get especially sad knowing that his grandchildren were too young to understand.

One of my first thoughts when COVID started to really spread was that I was grateful that my dad died a few months earlier because I couldn't have imagined not being able to hold him one last time and hold his hand.

It doesn't matter how old you are, your mother will always be your mother, and you will always be her baby. My own dear mother was 90 last birthday, and recently my older brother and I reluctantly made the decision to get her a place in a care home. Due to the current restrictions, we've only been able to visit once - and that was a socially distanced "through a window" visit. I miss her every day.

I think it means “struggle” basically...although it ,sadly, now has a somewhat negative connotation due to extremists. It does not mean war against all non-Muslims as the media would have you believe

Jihad is a super unfortunate name. I'm curious why he was deemed "a security threat" and was banned from the hospital, as they were surely already closed to visitors because of Covid. It is sweet that he climbed up to watch over his mom, though. Also, this happened in Israel, in the Palestinian city of Hebron, in the West Bank, not in Palestine, which isn't a country, though the EU calls the area a "Palestinian territory". Hebron is the 2nd holiest city to Jews (after Jerusalem, Israel) and is one of six cities that have been, at times, labeled the 4th holiest city to Muslims (after 1st Mecca, Saudi Arabia; 2nd Medina, Saudi Arabia; 3rd Jerusalem, Israel).

"Jihad is an Arabic word which literally means striving or struggling, especially with a praiseworthy aim". I don't think he or his mother care about your approval, to be honest.
