Dating apps can be a bit of a minefield at the best of times; you just never know what horrors might be lurking behind that smiling picture you just swiped right on. And now, thanks to Snapchat’s new ‘gender swap’ face filter, there’s a whole new level of potential awkwardness to sift through.
The photo filter, another genius way for Snapchat to temporarily boost its users with an engaging plaything, is the latest craze sweeping social media right now. You might’ve noticed friends posting pics of themselves as members of the opposite sex with sometimes hilarious, sometimes uncomfortably attractive results. Who knew your best mate Dave was so sexy?
It’s all in good fun, though, and people can’t seem to get enough of the gender swap filter. 20-year-old British man Jake Askew got an incredibly flattering result from his and decided to put it to the Tinder test under the pseudonym ‘Jess.’ Hilariously, he was immediately swamped by matches and requests as 100s of guys swooned over the alluring charms of the fine young ‘lady.’
And it didn’t end there. Jake got a peek into the realities of online dating for many women, getting bombarded with all kinds of messages from mildly saucy to all levels of sexual predator-y. “One chap asked ‘Are you a piece of art because I want to nail you up against the wall,’” he told LADbible. “Another talked to me about his ‘pork sword,’ and one bloke simply asked me to ‘sit on his face.’”
“To be fair, I looked at myself with the Snapchat filter on and thought I looked unreal,” Jake continued. “I showed my mate, and we thought we’d make a Tinder just to see if I’d get any matches from it. Obviously, I didn’t expect to be liked by over 1600 thirsty lads.”
This is what Jake actually looks like
Speaking to Bored Panda, Jake said the experience has been funny, and also a quite educational for him. “The lads who I was matching with were flying through with a bit of everything,” he told us. “Some direct, some a bit more subtle. But yeah, it’s definitely surprising to see what some girls have to deal with on a regular basis.”

“My friends think it’s hilarious, and they also a bit surprised this funny tweet has gone as far as it has. I had one mate that matched with ‘Jess’ on Tinder, but he claimed he knew it was me. I’m certain he didn’t! I won’t give away his name (Joe).”

Here’s how people reacted to Jake’s experiment
All nice and funny, just started wondering if you gender-swapped your already-gender-swapped photo. How close would it come to original?
I'm curious about this gender swap thing, but not enough to download yet another app.
