This Guy Received A Message Saying He’d Won $1.2M But Needs To Pay A Delivery Fee, So He Trolled The Scammer

Never mess with a scouser. When NHS nursing assistant Tom Sheerin from Liverpool, England, received an unsolicited message online from someone claiming to represent the ‘CEO Of Facebook’ and promising him a hefty cash prize and a Jeep, he decided to turn the tables and scam the scammer.

“Decided to have a little fun with someone trying to scam me on Facebook, kept him busy for about 2 hours,” Tom wrote, sharing screenshots of the hilarious exchange as he strung the scammer along with increasingly ridiculous questions and scenarios, delivering the coup de grace with a random picture of a horse that his son drew.

It’s not the first time Tom has been approached by scammers, like most of us he has received his fair share of dodgy emails. “I’ve had a few emails so I’m still waiting for my share of an inheritance of about 5 Nigerian princes,” he told Bored Panda. “I’ve answered a few in the past who realised quite quickly that I’m taking the piss. But this one was determined so I thought If I keep him on the hook, then that’s less time for him to scam other people.”

To be fair, the gormless approach and execution of the scam left Tom with an open goal, it really makes you wonder why these guys bother. The thread makes for hugely entertaining reading however, as Tom takes his chance with glee and makes a complete fool of his ‘hunter’ and shows why Liverpudlian humor is up there with the very best.

This is just wrong and so bad. When I read these I imagine an old woman or man falling for these, or someone who is really desperate for money. These people need to be caught and taught a long painful torturous lesson. It is very wrong to scam people like this

You may not understand the size of the organization of these scammers. This is not just a few people spread amongst us. It is pretty large. In some of the cases I saw pictures of the offices that were running 30 people in one spot out of. Some these people actually get paid to come to work and do just this all day long. Even worse the local authorities where they are happing at get paid off by the scammer org to leave them alone. It is quite a messed up thing. I agree. I hate thinking that people are being taken advantage of by scum who end their sentences with ok.

The funniest scammer I ever dealt with was a guy who left a VM claiming he was from the Justice Dept. and that we had to pay him $500 or they'd arrest us. Too bad the guy had a really bizarre speech impediment (he sounded a bit like Elmer Fudd) and you could hear a tv blaring in the background. He was dumb enough to provide his phone number. Thanks to White Pages I discovered he was in the boonies of New York state. I returned his call and managed to waste his time for a good 15 minutes until I finally lost it and started laughing. He hung up on me and I made several attempts to call him back, all he'd do is scream into the phone and finally stopped answering. I then looked up the number to the New York state police, provided the scammer's phone number and made a report. Never knew what happened to Elmer.

The conversation is really funny but the whole topic is upsetting to me. They found a normative person, but these aren't the ones they are looking for... they are looking for the old, confused, desperate people that usually don't have to much money to begin with, and take advantage of them. Heartbreaking...

Because anymore would be considered grand theft. In otherwords anything under 1k is a "felony" but not a MAJOR felony think class 6 instead of a 2. It's not like the FBI is going to jump on the chance to find someone that is scamming for 500. Sadly at that point it's "sorry that you fell for it ma'am / sir." Until they get enough people to complain about the same scam and IF they catch them then they pool all of them together.

Some of these scams are much more real looking. I was contacted about a $2,000 laptop I had for sale. They told me they paid through PayPal and that once I loaded a tracking number the funds would be immediately released. I received an email from a PayPal email or what appeared to be a legit paypal email address showing the payment with funds pending had been made and the hyperlink in the email ACTUALLY took me straight to Paypals website. Wasn't a single indicator it was fake EXCEPT for the fact that I happen to have a business account with PayPal and KNOW that they don't and CAN'T request tracking info as that's between seller and buyer if it's to be included. If I didnt know that one detail I would have definitely shipped it. So please everyone just be overly cautious!!!!

Had thrice phone calls from so call MICROSOFT. The guy on the phone know my name. He said that his company Microsoft saw that my pc had been hacked. He asked if he repair the pc by taking control of it. He than asked me if I had a credit card, I said yes. Would I please give him the account number , the pin number , the name and address of my bank, and please he said also your password. I yes of course, I gave him a fake credit card number. I was suppose to pay so could clean-up the pc. He tried to download my informations and of course he couldn't empty my account, again for all the infos above . This went on for 1 hour or so. Finally he bawled me out and said I was a stupid b***h since I was unable to transmit the information correctly. The morality of the is Microsoft never calls it's clients and the little guy lost his time on me.

I love how angry they get. I requested a Notice of Debt from a scammer and cited the code under the Federal law covering debt collections and "Agent Harris" replied "F**k it...go to jail then you dumb b***h. I was only trying to help you take care of this but now I'm turning it over to the Ingham county prosecutors office. Rot in jail". Correct county - good job but it was regarding a so called payday loan which is a civil matter if unpaid. Told me I would be served at my place of employment before 5pm to which I HAPPILY provided the correct address, which they'd never know it was actually where I worked even though I was telling the truth but plenty of potential victims give the # or address to the cops, I just happened to work for the State Police. These scammers are just too damn much!

I've come across a scam where someone will advertise an apartment to rent but because the 'owner' is based overseas, they want you to put down a deposit before they 'mail you the keys'. I started going on about the fact that I kept rare poisonous snakes as pets and did my roommate's job as a 'massage therapist' count as employment? Don't millions of people do this everyday? I've been doing it for years...not everyday obviously but when I'm bored and one hits me up...I just find it so much freakin fun playing with them....the ones that are the most hilarious I share with a few friends. I really love the Nigerian ones who try a fake romance then after perhaps 5 exchanges they love me...in another 2 they want $ cuz gasp they were left in Nigeria by their ship (they always pretend to be from where I am but on work detail as an engineer). I just love stringing them along ...making them think there's a huge payday coming in 5mins LOL But I'm surprised so many are acting like this is a new thing...I've seen so many of these "scammers owned by funny blah blah" it's like a dime a dozen now. Yet you have people calling him a "legend" for doing this. Good grief. For one I've seen way way more funny scammer send ups than this one, it was a bit funny yes...but legend? Now that's funny!

I'm a true DIE HARD fan of QUEEN. Well, I got one claiming to be Brian May, saying that he really wanted to meet me but that his management insisted i pay. He claimed that his manager insists that I pay $5,000! When I told him that I don't have that kind of money he said that he would pay $3,00 himself, but I HAD to pay the remaining $2,000! So i strung him along for a few. You see, Brian May is worth over $175 million! Why would he need ME, a disabled mom, to pay $2,00 to meet him! The fact that he said that it was for his plane fare made it even funnier!(QUEEN own their own plane!) I finally ended it by saying that I couldn't wait to meet him, I have the rope all ready to tie him to my bed! (Of course I really wanted to meet Freddie, rest his beautiful soul!)

I have zero patience with scammers. Especially when they don't have the most basic facts (or grammar) correct to even do a semi-decent job of scamming. I've had some guy try to lure me into a pyramid scheme on Facebook, but he at least had decent communication skills and was willing to let me go when I said firmly that I wasn't interested.

A lot of these scams known as 419 scams were part of my daily read. 419 I believe refers to the criminal code in Nigeria that this scam falls under. Anyway there was a site 419eaters.com. The person who ran the site basically baited the folks doing the scams by getting them to send him something small in exchange for him to send the money. It sometimes was a picture, even money. So if you want more of this sort of fun do a search online for 419 scams or baits or that sort of deal. Enjoy! ok

True. But people who do this, cause them to lose time to scam other people. So if you have a talent for this and the time to do this, it is a great thing to do. Because they scam less people in the time you keep them busy.

I got 2 of them. One guy said he was from the FIB and I owed $500 to the IRS and would be arrested if I did not pay it within 2 hours. I mean really the FIB ? The second was the my grandson was in jail and the guy was a bail bondsman. I asked which one I have 10 of them. He hung up when he could not produce a name. I had already heard of this one.

The Byrds? "I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now" from My Back Pages was originally done by Bob Dylan but covered by the Byrds

Enjoy! ok

Luckily e-mails like this automatically arrive in my spam folder, which I do not read. Who knows what I could have "won" by now!

True. But people who do this, cause them to lose time to scam other people. So if you have a talent for this and the time to do this, it is a great thing to do. Because they scam less people in the time you keep them busy.

I feel like if you fall for this you deserve it (I know that's horrible thing to say) but at the same time I feel bad because there are a lot of people who may have problems understanding these kind of scenarios (old people, handicapped...)
