Adults tend to be more lenient with kids and nicer to them, allowing them to eat the last candy or to cut in line for ice cream. But some people think that this is unnecessary and teaches children that they can get whatever they want, so it will only create problems in the future.

This man didn’t want that and he also wanted to be the last one to experience what it’s like to drive a F1 car, so the tears of the children behind him didn’t change his mind. Surprisingly, a lot of people considered him fair and weren’t mad that he made a child cry.

The viral video capturing the situation now has 10.3 million views and is the only video on the myrightmiddletoe TikTok account. It shows a man standing in line to go on a F1 test drive. It’s just a stationary car in front of a screen that creates an illusion of participating in a race.

A sign said that the exhibit closed at 4:55 PM and the man in the video was told he would be the last one taking the ride that day. Although the sign warned people to consider the closing time before joining the line, there was a girl waiting after him.

The girl’s parent asked the man to let her daughter go on the ride instead, but he had been waiting in the line before the girl and he wanted to try out the experience as much as her, so he refused. The video then showed the man trying out the F1 car and the girl standing behind it, crying.

The video attracted like-minded people as the majority of comments were applauding the man for his behavior, saying that they would do the same and that children need to learn that life won’t give them things just because they asked.

Various resources online will support the statement and will encourage parents to treat children as adults. Belly Belly says that it helps build mutual respect, develop social skills, and teach them about consent.

Thuy Yau, a mom passionate about parenting, personal development and psychology, adds even more reasons to treat children as adults and stop saying “kids will be kids” to excuse their behavior.

She says that such treatment teaches kids responsibility, they do more than expected and they learn to believe in themselves, which increases their self-esteem, value and the importance of their actions. Another point that is related to the story, as it was mentioned in the comments of the video, is that “kids will understand that you can’t always get what you want.”

Image credits: Pixabay (not the actual photo)

Kellie Rastegar, who is also a mom and who runs a highly successful social platform for working mothers, explains why parents sometimes are reluctant to stop treating their kids as children: “The issue that comes with treating your children as adults is the fear that we are destroying our children’s beautiful innocence. And that we deny them the chance to feel the extreme joys of adolescence.”

She agrees that there must be balance and parents should not “not expose them to unnecessary realities that could cripple their childhood. But [they] must also ensure they are simultaneously prepared for the particular challenges of our modern age.”

While there are benefits to treating children as adults, as Kallie said, you can’t drop all the unfairness of the world on your child. Linda Inmon, Extension specialist for the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, reminds parents that “children do not have the ability to perform complex reasoning, and they don’t always know how to handle a challenging situation or how to communicate their feelings.”

Learning takes time and every life stage has its expected achievements: “Children naturally want to please adults and follow in the footsteps of their mentors. We have to remember to allow children to accomplish this within their own timeframe as we provide guidance along the way.”

Do you think the girl in the video learnt a life lesson or was unnecessarily traumatized? Do you think the man was selfish or was it only fair for him to take the ride as he was also waiting in the line like everyone else? Do you agree with people in the comments who approved of the man’s actions? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

But people’s hearts weren’t touched by the tears and they believed that the man had every right to deny the kid a ride

It's one thing not for him not to give up his place, and he shouldn't be judged for that decision. Fair's fair. It's another to then mock and ridicule the child for being upset. And it's just evil to do that mocking all over the internet.

Exactly. It's okay to say no. But it's also okay for the little girl to be disappointed. She's young. I don't see anything that suggests the dad was an AH. He can ask, and the poster can say no. And the girl can be upset. Kids cry all the time, especially at the end of a busy day or when overstimulated as anyone who has been to Disney knows. She'll get over it and hopefully the father will talk to her about how we can't always have what we want. But, no need to shame a kid and post her image on the internet.

I think the one who caused this whole bad situation is the parent. They could have asked the guy out of earshot of the girl and not gotten her hopes up. They could have said to her "He's the last one. Oh well. Let's go do: (some other fun thing)", and not make a big deal of it. And I agree that the OP shouldn't have put her photo online. That wasn't cool.

For info, this is in Edinburgh, at the National Museum of Scotland. Entry to the museum is free, you can get in the F1 for free and it's £1 to play the driving game. Just come early in the morning and it's usually empty.

It is okay to ask, and it is okay to say no. Besides, it looks like the little girl might not be big enough to reach the pedals anyway according to the sign. I do believe that rubbing it in her face was on the mean side though.

The dude is an AH for mocking the kid, but he shouldn't be expected to give up his turn for a child. This is on the parent imo, the sign says when the ride closes, they should have gone early to ensure a ride. She looks too short anyway going by the sign that says "if you are under 137cm you may not be able to reach the peddles"

We got an email from my kids school today apologizing that kids feelings were hurt because they didn't get the parts they wanted in a school play. I responded back with "I hope this is taught as a life lesson that we don't always get what we want in life. No apologies needed for our family.". The teacher responded back with "We can always count on you and your family for keeping it real and raising your kids to be future responsible adults". The dad should have handled the kid's disappointment as a lessons learned.

Maybe he did. We don't know what he said to her when they got out of there and had a bit more privacy. But young kids will get disappointed and cry sometimes when they don't get what they want. That doesn't mean the parents are always giving in. It just may mean that the kid was already tired, or hungry, or overwhelmed at the event and didn't have the energy to handle the manner in a calmer manner in the moment. And the fact that the dad didn't deal with it in that moment while being videotaped doesn't mean he didn't handle it later. Frankly, I feel much like you do. Kids can't have everything they want and need to learn the world doesn't revolve around them. But, despite trying to instill those lessons my kid has definitely had the occasional cry over a disappointment, and that's okay too. His feelings are valid.

I know it's legal in Canada. There's incidents at beaches and kids splash parks where I live with men filming children in bathing suits and parents will call police but they can't charge them with anything because "parents are choosing to bring their kids to a PUBLIC area." It's ridiculous. The officer did make some gross perv leave the park last time though to "avoid an escalating incident" and because it was "disrupting the peace" or something. I wish children had better protection from pedos and pervs. Some creepy guy was pretending to use his phone on the bus near us when I had two TODDLERS in a double buggy and I could completely tell when her raised it and I heard it take a picture. He did that twice and I glared at him snd said her father reeeeaaally won't like that and pulled out my phone to take his picture. He turned his body around away from us and immediate got off next stop. Nothing I can do about the pictures they get before you stop them and I really hate that.

Kids need to learn they can't get everything she'll learn from this experience and not become a spoiled brat later on and will probably be saved for more bad experiences if she acted spoiled I don't support the fact that this kid had her pictures posted like this because that's pretty dickish behavior by the guy but some people need to learn that being spoiled doesn't get them anything

I don't fault the guy for not giving up his turn, but why mock the little girls tears? She was upset, as any CHILD would be in such a situation. But it doesn't look like she threw a temper tantrum or that her father was trying to bully his way into getting his daughter to the head of the line. Enjoy your ride, and don't make fun of a child.

What's wrong with all of you people? Being nice is not a thing anymore? Why did no one question the implication of the organization? FFS how much our world is f****d up when everyone is just "yup, child is crying we're gonna cheer every party that are in cause and mock the child" you selfish monkeys... And what about the "she should have been coming earlier" do you remember it's a child, right, she's not the one deciding. So she just might have been denied and it's not even because of her but her parents. Do you think it's fair? Really?

Abbelius

Who was "cheering for mocking the child", exactly? It looks like most people think he's a jerk for that much. But he's in his right to wait his turn in line, that much is understandable. He definitely shouldn't have posted her face on the internet, though. That's a normal reaction for a kid to have, to cry when they're disappointed. None of it was fair to her for being brought to the attraction too late, but it wouldn't have been fair for the other guy, either, as he was the one that waited in line that whole time for his turn. The lesson that things you want don't just fall in your lap because you want them is a hard one to learn, but it's necessary. Sometimes you just don't get what you want. I kind of wished the adults involved were better about the situation, though.

What a Total Jerk for blasting a little girl online!!! I hope someday that someone shows his child the exact same kindness that he did to that little girl bragging online and all so he can see how it impacts a child when adults are selfish jerks. Yeah life isn't fair and kids shouldn't expect to get everything hant to them on a silver platter but showing a little Kindness could have made an impression on her life to share with others .

I really hate this trend of "look at how I kept what was my right to keep when someone asked if they could please have it" a la the family that wants to sit together etc. No you don't have to give it up. It's a nice thing to do but you can of course say no. But the way you say no matters and your attitude towards people who politely ask because it was possible you could say yes matters. Nothing wrong with asking and nothing wrong with being disappointed especially when you're a kid and waiting is hard for children. Why celebrate it?

It is illegal to post pictures of minors online without the consent of their parents in Europe. On top of being an AH the guy is a criminal. If I was the parent, I would have the AH charged and prosecuted. As to the girl crying - she is like 6. She is a really small kid. She has a lot of time to toughen up and join the Royal Marines. On the other hand, what kind of excuse does the grown-azz man has?

Don't post children's pictures on the internet for clout. If you do you're a scumbag. Or at least blur their faces. Only exception to this rule is parents recording memories but clout chasers are vile even if it's their own parents.

Why does this need to documented on social media for all to see? Seriously dude you need validation for the decision you made? Those parents made a decision, they incorporated you into it. You made a decision. And there were events that took place based on those choices. No one got hurt or killed. Life moves on. Why post this and shame the girl and parents? Are you virtue signaling cuz you taught that girl a lesson? Do these parents possibly need to not acquiesce to everything their child asks for, probably yes. Despite the child's protest, yes. Children do need to see that there are consequences in life and life ain't always easy. I'm sure her parents are dealing with that fallout, and have lessons to learn from this. Perhaps arrive earlier and wait your fair turn too. Or sometimes in life you don't get what you want, suck it move on. But dude enjoy your ride and move on. I reallt see 2 children here who lack self-control. And 2 parents who ahould reflect on this situation and grow from it. But on their own, not for the world to see, because trust me the planet will rotate on its axis despite this incident. But dude is lame for this one, not for standing his ground for himself, but for seeking validation on social media for shaming a child. Grow up dude. You're just as mature as that little girl.

Yeah but the internet and reddit especially absolutely hate children, so I'd always take their opinions on the matter with a grain of salt. Part of it is jealousy, fear of responsibility and the fact a majority of them still haven't grown out of the being angsty towards your parents phase. For a lot of them their only interaction with children comes from fortnite and COD lobbies so there's a lot resentment stored up in there. Cats though? Well a cat never t-bagged them after a noscope on PUBG so they're cool.

I doubt that most people who don't want children are jealous. I assume they just don't want entitled, shrieking little crotch goblins running around wiping food and snot on the walls and doing a bunch of other fuckery. If that sounds like your dream, go for it. But the strange culture of seeing non-parents as "selfish" or deviant, even, for wanting their lives to be about THEM is finally coming to an end. The pendulum might be swinging in the other direction, in their favor, but it definitely hasn't gone too far. Yet.

I would never have asked for my kid to get a spot that was rightfully someone else's. The dad heard that only one more person could go and he gave his child false hope by waiting anyway. I would have immediately said "whoops its too late this time, Do you want to watch him play or find something else you might like to do?" However that guy is a MASSIVE piece of s**t for posting a little kid breaking down with disappointment online without consent. It's not the kids fault! It's her dad's, and only a sicko enjoys showing people a really sad kid and then bragging that he's the cause.

Yes it was fair. As a parent through I would have let the kid ride. But that's me. Life is short and kids will learn soon enough about disappointment and heartbreak. I'm not into making them suffer unnecessarily. And I have 2 trucking driving sons, a 21 yr old lpn, a senior in high school, and a five year old. So obviously I'm doing something right, without making them experience disappointment.

Well. He did what he wanted. It was a once in a lifetime experience for him too, right? If he did it just to teach a lesson to a child, grow up. You should have got into education if you are so worried about that. If it was just out of spite? It also depends. Did he think it was funny? Had the same thing happened to him?..eitherway it's all trivial, but I'll have to lean on the side of the child, as he will out live, and probably eat the elder. C'est la vie. 🙂

As an auntie of 8, I can understand that the little girl is disappointed & upset. But, honestly? I don’t blame him for not wanting to give up his place there. She’s a young child & will have MANY more opportunities to do this sort of thing again (& in a child’s mind, they’re bound to be more exciting than this). But this guy as a fully-grown adult probably doesn’t have all the time in the world to make time for events like this, so I feel he’s entitled to that one precious moment. So, I’ll give him that, that’s fair enough. One thing bothers me a bit, though … was it really necessary to make a TikTok video of the girl & poke fun at her for crying? I can’t help feeling it’s a very childish thing to do; as he knows he got what he wanted, whilst gloatingly rubbing it in that child’s face. 🤔🤷‍♀️

This girl is too short to ride the ride. The height limit is right there. Why turn it into this whole thing about how this teaches responsibility or whatever that STILL makes him out to be the a*****e whenever she can't ride it anyway?

It's hilarious that you posted an entire article, with a photo clearly showing the height limit for the ride, and completely ignore that the girl is too short to ride it in the first place, and not only is him saying no responsible, but it saved the girl from potentially being hurt and the museum from a potential lawsuit. C'mon.

So, you're a kid. That means even though I've been in line forever, I'm supposed to just let you take my place? Welcome to the real world - where things don't always go your way. I was in line with my kids at the water park & these two little fat f*cks come down the slide and instantly come stand in front of us. "Um, excuse me? What do you think you're doing?" Oh, our friends were holding our spot for us. "NO - you just got off the slide. That means you go to the end of the line." One's Mom comes over and tries to get in my face - oh, b*tch, please. Your kids JUST GOT OFF THE SLIDE - they go to the back of the line. I had to have an employee come over and explain to this MORON that as soon as you get off the slide - you go to the end of the line if you want another ride. I'm hot (Phoenix) hate my bathing suit, don't want to be here in the first place and a really good fist fight would absolutely MAKE MY DAY. They went to another ride.

It is what it is. That's life! She has every right to be upset and he has every right to enjoy himself without feeling badly about it. And any person who judges him should redirect those feelings to those in charge of the ride. It'd be much less of a sacrifice for them to have allowed just one more ride than for that man to have waited in line fairly, for God knows how long, to then give up that opportunity and have it all been for nothing.

It would be great if we could just up- or downvote for purposes of informal poll-taking, and flag the truly inappropriate comments (the spam-scams). So do with this what you will.

This is a classic case of a parent failing to manage the situation, ie. failing to manage the expectations of the child and failing to look at alternative solutions, eg. appealing to the exhibit organisers to make an exception instead of putting pressure on a random guy who was fully entitled to his turn. It could easily have been another child in front, not an adult, which is why the parenting here should be the focus, not the adult who rightfully took his turn.

The title of this whole article sets a bad tone. He didn’t make her cry; she cried because she was disappointed that she wouldn’t get to ride the ride due to the fact that it closed before her place in line was reached. There was nothing wrong with her parents making the request of him, but there was also nothing wrong with him refusing. Her emotional response to her disappointment is not his fault or his responsibility, and the author of this article should reconsider how they phrase things. Though I suppose the honest truth “child cries in disappointment because they didn’t get what they wanted” wouldn’t make for very good clickbait.

As soon as I saw the sign saying he would be the last person to ride, I would have walked away explaining to my kid that we did not make it in time. I would not try to guilt the guy into giving up something that was his. It was a crappy move to try to make him feel guilty just because you wanted what was his. I believe it was rude to even put him in that position to begin with. Then after he said no, which he is entitled to do, this parent remains there standing with their kid crying to make him feel bad and shame him. That is just poor parenting and poor adult behavior.

The parents could've brought the girl to the ride earlier so that she would've been able to go on the ride. Don't be mad at this man for being on time. The girls parents failed her.

She cried and didn't throw a tantrum and her dad didn't throw one either. Look into things before saying things you don't have any research on.

Ppl can say this is a learning lesson to teach the child about not getting whatever she wants, but whole time adults revolve their lives around their own wants🤷🏽‍♀️

I think it's more on the ride operator. They should have stayed a few extra minutes and told the little girl she was last, before the crying started

Going by the notice they put up she's likely too short to be able to reach the pedals anyway as she looks less than 137cm tall.

Everyone is free to choose what to do. I personally would have let the kid go, but I damned well wouldn't have posted online about making a child cry & brag about it. THAT makes the guy an AH.

What a jerk! Most would of happily made this little girls day by giving up the ride. He's trying to make himself seem less like an a$$ by seeking justification for his actions on the internet. Hope Karma comes back for him.

Im all for not giving kids what they want always but i gyess it would depend on the situation, how bad did i want to ride the car and what was my gut feeling regarding kid and her dad.i get alot of people approaching me for money in parking lots and places and some i get the naw you a scammer vibe and some i give cause little voice says give to this person, i really trust my gut in situations like this so that is what i would go by.

I gave every comment with a negative number an upvote (except the spammer b***h at the end, who got a downvote), because unpopular opinions shouldn't be fodder for cancel-culture.

This man didn't make that girl cry, her parents did. Her parents are 100 percent responsible for when that girl could have got to the ride. The parents could've brought the girl to the ride earlier so that she would've been able to go on the ride. Don't be mad at this man for being on time. The girls parents failed her.

I would do the same. Sorry kid. Life is full of lines, disappointments and guess what?? You'll live. The ONLY time I ever asked to cut the line was when my daughter was having a female emergency in the bathroom line. One dude heard me and said, I'll block the men's room, go take care this. Kids don't get cart Blanche because it's a ride.

He just posted a child's face on the internet(very dangerous for the child) and also shamed her for crying. She was a little kid and she wasn't being entitled in anyway. She cried and didn't throw a tantrum and her dad didn't throw one either. Look into things before saying things you don't have any research on.
