As a guy, you probably have fewer options for keeping your look fresh than women do, unless you are jumping on the male makeup 'trend.' So what can you do? Hit the gym, maybe a tanning salon. Get a new outfit. However, as this talented Japanese barber proves, by far the most effective way of transforming your looks is getting a good haircut.
Shou Otsuki is one of the staff barbers at Tokyo hair salon L. Dorado, and he has made a name for himself with the incredible before-and-after shots of his clients. The videos often begin with a shy, awkward-looking guy with a shapeless, unremarkable hairstyle. Otsuki covers the camera with the comb before pulling it away to reveal... A completely new person. The happiness and confidence that Otsuki's cool new style gives to his clients is there for all to see, and they wouldn't look out of place in a fashion magazine! "I just want to make everyone look cool," Otsuki told Bored Panda. "I suggest a look based on the client's facial shape or just how he seems as a person, I like to try to match the atmosphere."

I don't think he had. It's a techinque of cutting that makes your hair look thicker - in the first pic his hair are the same length, in the second they are trimmed in different lengths. We call that "shading" here and it deos wonders.

What's the draw for all the "slick straight hair styles" in Japanese men? If you look at the "before" photo of most of these men, their hair is slick and straight.

A lot of the commenters here are applying Western beauty standards and expression to these guys and the hair cuts. It's very clear that the lot of you don't know much about Japanese culture. Whether or not you hate the grayish blue dye, it IS a popular thing to do there and doesn't automatically make a bad hair cut. The barber isn't forcing the color on anyone. The color is even popular in my city, but mostly on women because it's not socially acceptable in the US for men to dye their hair unnatural colors. To those saying the guys won't do their hair every day: yes, they will. This is again applying Western masculinity standards to Japanese men. Besides, it looks like most would probably just need to put in some bedhead and ruffle a bit.

Actually, I'm watching a lot of Asian dramas/movies, and I see a lot of those hairstyles, so maybe I'm used to it, but unlike most of the other posters, I think (nearly) all the guys look way better after, some of them even went from "okay" to quite hot in fact!

Barbers often have you take your glasses off for a cut, but have you put them back on for a pic.....not sure why they left them off here. And maybe the grey dye is easier on the hair than bleach for lightening...that's the only reason I can think he uses it so often (besides trend). To this whole post, I declare: meh

1. put on glasses, cause not every hairstyle will match them. 2. To all who wonder where the volume went in the 1st pics - mostly they are presented with wet hair, so we don't even get to see the original haircuts they had and they all look same. 3. Gray hair sure, but see how mate they are? They lost gloss, so they probably were bleached really hard. A good hairstylist will never do such a drastic bleach in one session (I hope he just showed the very first and very last pic, but I doubt that). 4. Some of the supershort cuts don't cut it and are not mathcing the face shapes at all, making the person look out of place.

My hair is s**t, i have never had a single good haircut in my life, my hair is thick and out of control. My missus laughs at my hair all the time because she cannot do a thing with it. I just keep it short so i don't have to do anything with it, i groom my beard and thats enough grooming for me.

So, in most cases, the stylist combed their wet hair into some funky style. Took a picture with often a weird expression. Then took a picture after the cut and style. It's not a valid comparison. That's not to say he isn't a talented stylist, but I want to see the REAL "before". Gave it a thumbs-down for that reason.

Are you serious with this content? In their first pictures nobody has styled hair, everybody has just wet, combed hair. How is anyone supposed to look good in previous pictures? Am I supposed to be impressed now or what?

I don't like the grey color the stylist used on these guys! Asians don't look good in that color. I'm Asian and would never wear that color cause of our skin color being mostly olive toned. The barbers should know this but the hair stylist being Asian from being in Asian, is expected. Also the barber do well cutting the hair to look good with the shape of the customers face! C'mon now, that's something that should have been taught or was taught in beauty school.

He just crop their hair shorter and gave them a good wash. Their hair was probably greasy because of all the gel they used to keep it flat. I feel like this men simply didn’t use healthy hair products.
