Women should keep their own names. I hit so many deadends in a genealogy search because the mother was just Jane or Sara. Some records from Europe in the 1600s or 1700s don't even list a mother in the official birth records, just the father. The woman was just a uterus to give the man heirs. It's maddening, those women have no record of their existence, women were basically disposable. If a man's wife died he would just replace her like he replaced a cow or a horse. So men today need to stop acting like a woman doesn't have a family or an identity.
