Natural Vs. Makeup: Instagram Account Showcases These Asian Transformations That Will Probably Make You Question Reality (30 Pics)
Makeup has been a very talked-about topic lately. A lot of people are discussing what amount of it is ok and what is too much. At the end of the day, it depends on the person wearing it. It does have the reputation of making people look different than they look. I mean, that's kind of the point of putting it on. However, the transformations we're about to share with you leave you pretty stunned and even make you question reality a little bit.
The Instagram account Asian Makeup gathers transformation videos from all over the internet and posts them for us to enjoy and marvel at. We not only see women change their look radically, but men also join in the fun this time!

Looking at all these pictures, it's like watching a group of people go through a homogenizer. They start out unique and interesting and distinct and all turn into generic "Instagram pretty" people.
What are your opinions on makeup? Do you wear lots of makeup yourself or do you like to keep it more natural? There have been lots of debates over what is right and what is wrong in the makeup world, with many people hating on the ones that wear too much makeup: "catfish," "take them swimming on the first date," and many other comments that probably make the person wearing the makeup feel discouraged and insecure.
Um, this isn't just makeup. It's also filters! her eyes are much bigger and aren't even the same color... Um, this isn't just makeup. It's also filters! Look at her eyes - they are much bigger and aren't even the same color.
This article on NBC News reads: "Using makeup doesn't hide women's 'real' beauty, it hides the labor that goes into meeting beauty standards. We’ve bought into the notion that it’s not just desirable, but mandatory to invest in the charade of what 'real women' look like." The article states that there is a danger when it comes to being too good at makeup. Many people think that makeup wearers, especially women, are trying to deceive men with their looks, but fail to see that people usually wear makeup for themselves and no one else.
There is a lot of pressure to look perfect. When you don't wear enough makeup—you're not trying or don't care about your appearance. When you wear too much, you are suddenly vain and deceitful.
I know makeup can make the bridge of your nose look narrower, but the base width and nostrils as well? I call filter.
However, according to this piece on Men's Health called '11 Reasons Women Look Gorgeous without Makeup,' women who don't wear a lot of makeup seem more confident, innocent, 'primal,' and sexy. It also states that they seem more outdoorsy, approachable, and down to earth.
As per this article in the New York Times, in most cases, men who try to prove that women look better without makeup using photos end up using pictures of women who are, in fact, wearing makeup. This just proves that most enjoy the 'no-makeup makeup look' that a lot of people like to do, especially for everyday purposes.
There's some photo editing here. The face shape has changed from diamond to oval and the whole face itself has become narrower at the cheek bones. I know she's in more of a 3/4 on the right instead of full face, but still...

Filter ;—; unless they did this in the span of months, the face shape and structure is totally different. Edit: ok ok you guys say it’s some kind of tape ok sorry you can stop now
contacts... literally why don't ya'll understand how colored contacts work
Load More Replies...No no no. There are facelift and eyelid tapes and yes they almost all have different contacts. You know nothing about makeup and trickery A.M. Pierre
I have to admire the time and skill this takes, at first I thought it was a man.
And I can't even figure out how to use makeup hide the dark circles under my eyes...
Same. Since covid I used eyeliner/shadow maybe three times. I plan on keeping it down in the future. Big framed 60ies glasses help with the dark circles :-)
Load More Replies...I feel like they're trying to remove their ethnicity, which is heartbreaking
It is their own beaty standart. Suntan is still condidered ugly, doesnt matter how strong European influence is. Just watch the doramas for inner market, they even cats young actresses to portray elder characters.
Load More Replies...Most of them are really beautiful before. But I do admire the skill they have, they transform into whole other humans. I just hope it's not due to insecurity of their natural looks.
Some of them do that for social media content, for s**t and giggles that can generate clicks, and/or to promote their skills. Some MUAs became famous (and later got hired to work with the rich and famous) from such posts.
Load More Replies...TBH, I found this post rather sad. That is just my opinion though. Please can someone explain what they are doing with those sheets of whatever on their faces? You know, the ones they are stretching and pulling at? I am a bit confused.
My best guess is it's some sort of stretching material which pulls all excessive face fat into some other part of face or neck.
Load More Replies...I'd like to point the obvious that all of them also used photo filters. Many of us East Asians are obsessed with having porcelain white skin, oval/egg-shaped face, big eyes, and of course skinny body. The mainstreamed K-Pop (and J-Pop to a lesser extent) contributes to the way 'beauty' is perceived in the region for the past couple of decades. To people outside the region, these beauty standards might appear sad and pathetic, but I'd say it's no different with many other countries. Like those Caucasian celebrities/influencers who prefer tanned skin (some even do blackfising), big breasts and buttocks, and plump lips which many East Asians can't understand the appeal.
Got to agree... I have worked with ladies from different asian homelands and the saddest thing I heard was the desparate need to change themselves to fit a beauty standard, particularly with white skin... It was very sad and I empathised with them, but it was clear they felt I could never truly understand...
And I agree with Wigger, often they were beautiful already, and I mean in the lovely mix were people who would already be judged as beautiful conventionally.... but it was just not what they thought was beautiful....
Load More Replies...No hate, but more than half of these were used with filters. You can see that the face is a completely different shape, which can only be achieved by plastic surgery and there is no way makeup skills could have done that. In my opinion, good makeup skills are about bringing out the features in your face and embracing them instead of covering them up and rebuilding your face to look like a completely different person.
only for the first part. It's this thing called face tape. It can really drastically pull back face fat.
Load More Replies...for costumes and similar a.k.a. special occasions - fine. For everyday life - huge no. That's a sick misunderstanding between some human and their understanding of beauty if one needs THAT to look attractive. I also must mention - most of those are really cute and better with out makeup.
They all look so depressed! A few of them look happy, or like real human beings in the before, so why would they want to change into some emotionless alien??? I wonder how they all started. Like if they were just fooling around with the makeup, then it became a psychological thing.
If they do this to show their skills, is fantastic; if not, that's the worst level of catfishing.
This is not just makeup. Major filters. Makeup cannot change the shape of your jaw.
Nah, it's not worth looking at. I looked at a few, but you might as not bother. They're way beyond being the same person in the pictures.
This post made me sad. Not about the ethnicity thing, they have the right to decide how they want to look, but about the fact that being very attractive is soooo necessary for women to get by. Just to get by. Just to have doors open and opportunities offered. Or even just to gain the confidence to post a photo or video.
The biggest takeaway I had was that several of y’all don’t know about colored contacts.
Try it without filtering apps and with non artificial lighting done digitally in post. Can you do it for real? With your actual face that's not digitally morphed? Overly digitally manipulated faces look the same and don't stand out because they are millions others just like it and counting. They all look like dead eyed Sims.
lighting is everything, and obviously they'd look different, their skin probably not so porcelain.
Load More Replies...How bloody long must it take them to get ready every time they go out?!
Some of these look peculiar. For example #8 has a physically different nose.
This is NOT just makeup. Looks like protheses too and maybe latex? At first I'd thought it was camera tricks but not so sure now. But what disturbs me MOST about this is that the 'beauty ideal' seems to be to 'Europeanise' the facial features. They were all beautiful, why change to look European??
Hidreley and BP promoting this ignorant page should be ashamed. The people are already starting with “wow, my heart is bleeding from sadness about how Asian people hate themselves. This is a solid representation of Asian beauty and gosh it’s sad!” No nuance or thought at all to at least not apply this to every “Asian person” they see now.
they were interesting... a lot of those girls (and boys) were already beautiful (or handsome).
Many don't look thrilled to take the pictures and all I can wonder is ifs against their will and if they are trapped in the sex trade which enslaves countless girls and boys. I pray that isn't the case with these individuals.
Photoshop pure and simple. NOT good makeup use, just photoshop!I don't know why people want to look that fake and airbrushed.
There are a ton of filters and photo editing at play here, not just makeup skills. Personally, I feel like if you want to use makeup to enhance your looks or feel nice, go for it. Looking like a completely different person, however... If you're doing it to feel better about yourself, it seems like that would make any self esteem issues even worse, since people wouldn't be admiring the real you.
And I can't even figure out how to use makeup hide the dark circles under my eyes...
