The colors in a second rainbow are in reverse order of the main one since it's a reflection of it.

I like how those clouds actually go behind the moon there and that there’s not even a hint of the moons reflection in the water.

Do you believe in life after luck? (If you didn’t already, please go back and read that in Cher’s voice.) If you do believe in luck, what you consider to be lucky can depend on many different factors, including your culture, your beliefs and where you’re from. For example, I grew up in the United States, where I was never told that keeping eye contact is necessary when cheers-ing drinks.

However, my partner swears that it’s bad luck if we don’t look each other in the eye when our drinks clink. But we can both agree that you should never reveal what you wished for when blowing out your birthday candles. Otherwise it won’t come true! As silly as these superstitions may be, it’s fun to knock on wood and avoid stepping on cracks. And who knows? Maybe these beliefs helped the people on this list earn some good luck too!

I don't really understand how you can point a telescope at one point in the sky for twelve hours because the earth is spinning? Wouldn't it get out of shot st some point? Sorry if this is really stupid, I'm no scientist 😂 Anyway, seems you can somehow, as this beautiful photo was taken!

Middle to high end amateur gear comes with an electrical motor, moving the telescope along. That requires some aligning skill, which was present here.

I usually don't like to post negative comments. But being an amateur astrophotographer, I can definitely say, there was no luck involved in this photo. This required careful planning, relatively dark sky (rare in big cities due to light pollution), sophisticated equipments (at least a motorized equatorial mount and star tracker), and multiple batteries , to create this composite (if indeed taken for 12 hrs), and then an advanced level of post processing in multiple softwares...

This photo is from Sky and Telescope magazine in 2014. As others have said, it's the Seagull Nebula. https://skyandtelescope.org/online-gallery/ngc-2327-and-the-seagull-nebula-ic-2177/ It has appeared in several other places (Google image search is your friend). One of them mentioned the LGBTQ colouring of the seagull's wings!

To learn more about the topic of luck, we reached out to John Kehoe, teacher of Mind Power Training and best selling author of Mind Power into the 21st Century. John was kind enough to have a chat with Bored Panda and discuss how he actually programmed himself to be lucky.

"It happened by accident during a summer of incredible sailing weather. Every time we went out sailing and had perfect winds and weather I would say, 'Just our luck.' I enjoyed saying this and began taking on the habit of saying 'just my luck' every time something good happened," John shared. "It didn't have to be major things, even having a series of green lights while I was driving or getting the last reservation at a restaurant prompted me to say to myself, 'Just my luck.'"

From OP on Reddit: "His name is Basil. He is around 10 years now, we don't know for sure because we found him outside and "adopted" him. He had been gone recently for a whole year, and my mother had found him online, as someone was offering to pass him to a new family. They drove all the way to my work place when I was working and surprised me. We lived together for 8 years and he had finally come back after a year of absence. This photo is my first reaction when I was allowed to see him and pet him. I missed him alot, and he was like a brother to me."

"It was not lost on me that I was using this well known expression in the exact opposite way that most people use it," John noted. "When people use the expression 'just my luck,' it is always used when something bad happens to them. Why would they use it that way? That is programming the subconscious mind that you are unlucky. I know well the power of suggestion, having written a book on the subject (Mind Power into the 21st Century)."

Maybe because it has only a limited range where it lives? It's just in Austria, Slovenia and Italy and nowhere else on the world? It's not rare there, but it's ONLY there. *shrugs*

"At first it was just fun saying it, but then something quite remarkable began happening. I started getting really lucky," John told Bored Panda. "Not that I was unlucky before this practice, but now my luck was off the charts. I got tickets to a sold out concert, made some amazing business contacts, I even won a 50/50 lottery at a hockey game that year where twenty thousand people had bought tickets, taking home a sizable amount of money. And yes, after I won I said, 'Just my luck.' Now, some twenty years later, my wife and I still use this expression regularly. And yes, we are very lucky."

"There are many mysteries in life, but both anecdotally and statistically, those that think of themselves as lucky usually are, and those that don't aren't," John shared. "The subconscious mind works with the material we feed it. Feeling negative, depressed, unable to achieve anything influences the subconscious. It's easy to feel down when things aren't going our way, but simple exercises focusing on the good things in our life can help us get out of our negativity."

"Of course, nothing is a hundred percent perfect, and I'm not suggesting that you can have whatever you want, whenever you want. This is no magic wand, but in more cases than not, what you focus on you attract, often in ways we could never imagine."

A simple daily practice for several minutes will begin to change your thinking in a few weeks."

I found these guys at an antique store for $19 each. I know they were high-quality crystals and were heavy (9 lb each), so I bought them on a whim without knowing what they were. I got home and looked up the signature on the bottom, which ended up being “Lalique France." The retail value of them, from what I found, is around $3000 for the pair. Pretty happy for $40.

According to a survey from PaysBig, two thirds of Americans believe in luck. And even one third of those who don’t admit that they still abide by some superstitions “just in case.” Some of the most common examples of “good luck” that Americans believe in include beginner’s luck, wishing on shooting stars, throwing coins into fountains, picking up pennies, knocking on wood, 7 being a lucky number and having a good luck charm.

Many also believe that four-leaf clovers are signs of good fortune, crossing their fingers brings good luck, 11:11 is the perfect time to make a wish, blowing out birthday candles in one breath, avoiding the number 666, ladybugs bring good luck, and that walking under ladders brings bad luck.

She goes to the DI once a week. She found a few books she was really interested in. Bought them, took them home. Opened them to realize it had her uncles name in the books! Even if you don’t believe in good luck, there’s a chance that you blame luck when things don’t go your way. In fact, PaysBig reports that 53% of people blame their misfortunes on bad luck. Meanwhile, only 9% blame themselves, while 8% might blame a full moon or Mercury in retrograde. 7% of people don’t look for anything to blame their unfortunate circumstances on, and 4% simply blame bad things on life itself. And a tiny percentage of people, 3% to be exact, will blame their misfortunes on karma.

When it comes to whether or not people see themselves as lucky, the majority of us actually don’t. Only 38% of those surveyed would consider themselves a “lucky person.” Meanwhile, 62% of people believe that everything happens for a reason. And as far as what days of the week tend to bring the best luck for people, 41% of people consider Friday and Saturday to be their good luck charms. Thursday seems to bring the least amount of luck, with only 15% of those surveyed deeming it a lucky day.

My sister once left her phone in a bathroom at our local mall. We had already made it home when we had to drive back to find it. The workers in the closest store told us someone had turned it in to them and they gave it to mall security. We were able to get it back pretty quickly and without incident.

The guy in the car took off! Pastor had his helmet on, jeans, shirt and leather jacket. Motorcycle was totaled, Pastor was in ICU for 4 weeks. The police know who the driver is but can't find him.

If you’re interested in increasing your own luck, Richard Wiseman, author of The Luck Factor, shared some of the trademark features of lucky individuals with CNBC. First, he noted that lucky people typically jump at any opportunities that come their way. They might be great at networking, putting themselves out there and meeting new people. The more risks you take and the more often you go after opportunities, the more likely you are to have something work out!

same thing happened to actor james "commander scott" doohan of "star trek" fame. 06 june 1944, he stormed "juneau beach" with the canadien army. after taking out two german snipers, he was accidentally shot 6 times by a fellow soldier who thought he was a german. 4 bullets went into his leg, the 5th blew off the middle finger on his right hand. the final one was stopped by a metal flask that was in his chest pocket, given to him by his brother.

In years to come it will be judged as either CG or AI... in the future to quote, "nothing is real."

Wiseman also says that lucky people are great at listening to their intuition. Whether it’s your gut telling you to skip the party tonight that you’re really not feeling or something inside of you saying that you need to go to the beach today, listen. Sometimes, our bodies know what’s coming before our brains do, and following your intuition can certainly pay off!

Another trait that lucky people tend to have is being an optimist, Wiseman notes. They don’t dwell on things that go wrong or waste time complaining about how unlucky they are. They take action, and they think positively. Many people believe that positive thoughts attract good things anyway, so it’s definitely worth a shot! Focus on the bright side, and believe that good things are in store for you. They just might be after all!

On that same note, Wiseman says that lucky individuals are always resilient. “They tend to imagine spontaneously how the bad luck they encounter could have been worse and, in doing so, they feel much better about themselves and their lives,” he told CNBC. “This, in turn, helps keep their expectations about the future high and increases the likelihood of them continuing to live a lucky life.”

I found a wallet. There was over $2000 in the wallet. The man didn’t even know he lost it. Worked out how to contact him and found out he was going to buy a plane ticket the next day and it was so he could go and marry his fiancé in London. I live in Sydney Australia. I’m happy to know I helped him marry his love.

you can mail wallets in usa? How odd. Anything like that that went into our post here would be stolen again. We have to courier stuff with insurance. Also, how do they get your address? people in my country move a lot and our privacy laws prohibit stuff like a home address on a driver's card or similar. Sooo... weird.

It's a federal offense to interfere with the mail. And once packaged, no one would know what is inside. And yes, our home addresses are on our driver's license.

My mom was driving us to the store yesterday and pulled up behind a truck with a trailer attached to the back. It was full of limbs and trash with two ladders haphazardly placed on top. It was technically tied down, but I didn't trust it. I told her to get in the other lane because I wasn't about to die today.

I think the person bought shoes that were to big for them. Because his toes would be damaged if the shoe was the right size and fit. Shoes that fit, the toes are close to the tip of the shoe but not pressing against it.

They are beautiful but they smell more like a dumpster behind a bar in the summer than a rotting corpse. Unfortunately I know the difference. Also it’s not as pungent and far reaching as we thought it would be. You have to get your nose close to it to smell it and we were indoors. It was worth it just to see if you’re into plants and dead people.

I work in a thrift store. We check things over, but can't spend too much time. If there's something notable that someone knows is valuable, then we check out the value. Most of the time, especially if it's a type of item that is less popular for customers, we just give it look over to check the condition and give it to the graders for pricing. The customers, then, find good deals, they tell others and that brings in more customers. Even the known expensive stuff that goes into showcase can have under $50 prices. But I have seen some things priced at over $100. It's just not that common. At the end of the day, we just need the stuff sold to make room for new stuff before we're forced to garbage it to make room.

As a carpenter I call BS. Yes that is a nail from a clip for a framing gun. But, there is a safety that surrounds the the exit point of the nail which has to be fully depressed. I do not see how this nail could be in this particular position shot from a gun. I'm saying it was pushed in the glove by hand for internet points.

You're def lucky! My dad put a nail through the bone of his first 2 fingers. We still have xrays. This was when I was a toddler . I'm 35 now and to add to this he's also put a circular saw into his leg by accident and fell 40ft and broke a carpenter square by falling on his back and it was in the back of his toolbelt....he is where I get my accident prone life to him lol

I guess you don't realize how crazy work accidents can get. Or accidents that happen while using any kind of tool. You being a carpenter does not disprove this accident. It is very possible for stuff like this to happen. I have actually seen even crazier things than this. Things that boggle the mind but do indeed happen. :-)

I lived in Cairo from 1999 to 2002. I would take trips to more rural areas of Egypt and find old Roman and Greek coins all the time. There was a "gravel" path in one town, where the gravel was made of clay shards. If you looked at the shards, you could sometimes make out ancient Greek lettering. You were literally walking on 2000 year old broken pots.

Those shards of pottery with Greek letters scratched on them may have been ostraka, an ancient form of voting ballot. If the vote concerned condemning or banishing a person, they would be considered “ostracized” if they lost the vote.

Yeah, we had to convince my SIL that driving the kids around in a 1999 tank of a car was much less safe than a newer one that will crumple. She thought it was safer because it was so solid. Once we explained how it works she was horrified - and immediately bought a new car.

They would have stated if it was plated. Given the nature of this post. I absolutely believe it is pure gold. Just because solid gold is heavy doesn't mean someone didn't have it made and wore it. Besides, it's not heavy enough to stop someone from wearing it. Just saying.

My daughter managed to win the jackpot on this one arcade game 12 times in 3-4 days and ended up with 50,000+ tickets. She brought quite a haul of candy and small presents home for us.

Kinstugi is my absolute favorite form of art. Many times the after is more beautiful than the before. Beauty from brokenness is such a wonderful concept, both in material goods and in people.

When her aunty died we had a few bits of her jewellery etc and her favourite cup and saucer. It looked like crazy paving but we were going to keep it on the memory shelf. Put it in the sink to wash, turned my hand with the Sponge Scourer on the inside and cut my hand to ribbons as it came apart in the hot water. Accident waiting to happen, get rid of it.

But Euroland uses Research number only.Ours is an average of Research and Motor numbers for Anti Knock Index-AKI.Their 95 is our 91.Premium is available but very expensive now they have gone to unleaded only and limit alcohol because of old cars still on road ,and lower temps.

It wasn't leaving (intentionally). Thoughts: 1. Mechanics usually open the bay door before driving a vehicle out of the shop. 2. Some shops have doors on both sides - 'drive through'. They may have driven it in through the door behind the truck, then the truck wouldn't stop and rolled into the door at the other side.
