Couple Goals
Downvote away if you want, but divorce isn't nearly as common among people 50+ years of age. A lot of the older generations stay married, they put hard work into their relationships. My parents have been married 40 years, and there's been ups and downs. Young couples are so quick to give up and throw in the towel when things get hard. Its quite sad. Won't be surprised how few couples there are that are married now, that stay married until old age.
I'll be honest and say I find your tone rather patronizing and rose-colored. Many women did not have the option to opt out of marriage. If they were pregnant (and it's amazing how many "premature" babies were born then), they had less of a choice. It's hard enough in this day, I can't imagine how it was then when the world looked upon you as a harlot. Ultimately, who is to say that marriage should be the end goal for anyone, really, much less one that lasts for decades? Studies incidate most women born in the 40's would not have married (that young or that person) had they really had a choice. Many would have loved to study, work or travel. In fact, Since 1990, the divorce rate for Americans over 50+ has doubled. The majority of these divorces are to first marriages (the very ones described as being ideal). Divorce is no worse than being married out of habit, obligation or fear. Don't get me wrong, these pictures are wonderful, but they are outliers. That is what makes them special.

My grandparents were together for 46 years. They've met in 1954 in a party, they're dancing whole night. After that, grandpa had to go back to military training, but wrote for her each day, for a whole year. Grandma' didn't respond him. After a year they've met in a party, and grandpa asked her, why she didn't answer. Because she didn't know, grandma parents hide all of the letters. After that, they started dating, and after another year they married. For 46 years, they were the cutest, the most converging and the most "in love" couple I've ever known. After granpda Augustin died in 2001 from leukemia, I've asked my friend to made grandma' Charlotte this wedding painting, because they were so poor, that in 1955 they couldn't make a wedding pic. :) 15497628_6...cd0bd4.jpg
